Did the role preference algorithm change last patch?
Because, after patch 6.12, I was getting my primary role a ton. Now, in 6.13, it's much less frequent. Has anyone else experienced this?

No, it's just you. For me, the exact opposite. Before, I almost never got my primary role. Now, I get it a ton.
