Question for Junglers

I just got out of a match where I played Riven top vs. Illaoi. I have a very hard time against Illaoi, so I just played safe and hugged turret the entire time, only dying once in the first 20 minutes. However, Illaoi was pushing really hard, and was down to the inhibitor turret within about 25 minutes. The worst part? My jungler, Gragas, Didnt. Gank. A. Single. Time. When I asked him about this, he replied, "I help winning lanes so they can snowball. I don't help losing lanes". I thought this was pathetic, because I was losing hard, and he could clearly tell, but I didn't get a gank a single time. We ended up losing the game because (surprise) Illaoi was pushing so damn hard and the jungler didn't do a single thing. She could roam, while I had to fend off the super minions, and our support was bitching that "people in bronze are idiots, I miss plat".

My question here is, was my jungler correct? Is it actually right to help winning lanes snowball even harder (which he didn't do) and completely ignore the losing lanes? I think this is just plain rude, to not even give a shit and a half about a lane that is "losing" and "helpless".

By the way, I got flamed for staying top and not helping my team [zombie-brand-mindblown]

No, he shouldn't have ganked. You were weak and Gragas doesn't bring much damage to the table. Illaoi is fully capable of a 1v2 with her AOE damage and can burst you down before turning on Gragas. Anything short of a kill results in wasted time for the jungler and a pushed lane which you don't want. What should have been done was let the first two towers fall and hope the other lanes are fed enough to take her out when she roams.

Ok so im no expert but id say that while ganking wining lanes to snowball is a good strat, if Illaoi was pushing the whole game, he most definitly should have ganked. gragas had good cc and can get you snowballing.

TL;DR his strat is a good one, but not in every case(like yours)

DISCLAIMER: this is just my opinion

To be fair if you try to gank Illaoi when she has ult she can usually just 2v1 and get a double kill. You have to like gank her and make her use ult then run away and then come back like 30 seconds later.

Ok, while his strategy CAN work, its not always the best option. The only time i would ever ignore a lane, is if they are doing fine without me, ir if the enemy is so strong, they can 1v2.

What grag shouldve done is ganked the shit outta mid, pushed down the tower, and then rotated top with the mudlaner to relieve pressure too.

If you only died once in lane, you probably weren't hopelessly lost. (unless she zoned you off a lot of CS.) Though I still don't blame Gragas, Illaoi can be pretty tough to gank, if they are already ahead. As a Jungler, I usually gank the lanes that promise the greatest chance of success. I usually determine that by a) how the minions are pushing, b) how tanky they are. c) how much gank assist they can offer, and d) how many resources (Health and mana) do they have left? But if Gragas couldn't get the other lanes ahead, then he's was probably bad.

If you can't beat her in lane, you should probably look to roaming. Play the map, And Riven should be faster, and more burstier that Illaoi, which would make you the superior in roaming and ganking.

During the laning phase, it's a waste of time for the jungler to come top and try to help you out. Illaoi will probably not die (You need more than tank gragas damage to take her down), and it won't do anything to save the lane for that specific matchup. So early game, yeah he's correct and that just kind of sucks for you.

Mid to late game (when she's pushing down your second tier tower and beyond), it's really bad for the jungler and THE REST OF YOUR TEAM to ignore her. If she's up that far, she's a free kill for all of your team. And if she's that far ahead, she is an objective because of her spree gold.

So yes and no. Hope that helps!

Gragas has no damage anymore and Illaoi can easily 1v2 two melees. Not much he could've done and he's better off ganking other lanes in this situation. He wasn't equipped to tackle a winning Illaoi.

I am hearing a lot of how Gragas stands no chance of beating Illaoi. The fact of the matter is that he could have at least relieved some pressure in top lane. It would have taken all but thirty seconds to get in and get out. A gank is not always about the kill; in fact, it is about helping your allies and any jg who cannot help struggling lanes should not be jungling at all. It isn't that hard for a good player to turn a feeding lane into a fed lane.
