Viktor Top says it all: it's time for MANA to be an actual resource again

FCJAAAAGOOOO··2 votes·1,564 views

Viktor is top now, other mages have been top before and none of them have ever been healthy there. Precisely what would slow them down yet keep them relevant in other lanes is if mana was a relevant resource once again. It really is that simple.

As fair as most mages currently are, they all deserve much less base mana and mana per level so that their horrible mana items can be significantly buffed to compensate and create a lever to control what mages can and can't do. Items like Iceborn Gauntlet should be completely ignored regarding these buffs to mana items as an example of what is and is NOT ok for mages to be building early game.

Do RoA, AA and GLP have anything in common? Yes: they all suck! They offer more mana than what is relevant in this nuke-or-be-nuked pushing bonanza meta. These items are clearly unbalanceable without an archetype that uses that much mana, and that list is at MOST two whole fingers long in Mana Ezreal and Ryze, who currently has the lowest WR by a county mile not because of his reworks but because of the items tailor-made for him that even he can't make much use of. These items suck so much!

Make these mana-heavy items better, and make mages want them. Give them good, relevant stats and passives. Let their build paths be worthwhile. Make the finished items more expensive and even more rewarding. Make mages go OOM without them. Last but not least, include an expensive advanced mana item in their build paths so that there's a controllable benchmark for builds that want some baseline mana but also want to make use of more unique items like IB without breaking them in top lane.

Please don't continue to act like the champions with longrange special damage nukes and hard CC aren't unique enough to warrant special treatment with their items, especially when AD mids have had PLENTY! of it for so long. Treat this class like a class. Give them their own items and reason to buy them beyond mobility and burst damage. They clearly need them.

I recall when people complained about energy champions being too strong compared to mana champions. Some complained about mana regen in fountain being too slow compared to hp regen. Both arguments are to an extent true and justifiable.

Mana-reliant champions have to take an extra resource into account when building items and Luden's Echo is already a top priority item among most mages. Some need an early Tears of the Goddess before building anything else. It is already hard for mages to get early armor against oppressive midlane fighters on top of mana, while the latter have easy access to MR items.

Item builds for most mages are already very restrictive and they should not be so reliant on a vital, elementary resource that is mana, while AD champions have a plethora of items to choose from.

They should be MORE reliant on it as clearly they abuse items like IB way too hard or just build mostly damage with only Luden's and a Doran's Ring giving them mana and THAT is what makes their builds inflexible.

The Most Common items in him are iceborn gauntlet, abyssal Mask and upgrading His staff. On all 3 He pays Gold for Mana.

And this analysis also completely forgets that Riot already gutted mana regen once already. I forget when it was, but basically all mages lost mana regen for max mana, and most items lost a bunch of their mana regen for max mana

Any further nerfing and you might as well be playing a wizard from D&D, 10 casts of Q, W, and E and 2 casts of R before needing to go to base to "sleep".

Change gutted for nerfed imo

Those do have mana, but he should need more mana than that, especially in lane. It should be to the point where the only solution for him is to invest in a finished mana-heavy item first that is healthy for mages, or at least half of one.

He gets out of control way too fast right now in top lane and he shouldn't even be there in the first place. And Viktor isn't the only one with extreme potential to do what he's doing either as seen clearly in past seasons.

More? At this Point you are getting ridiculous. Also "healthy for mages". What exactly is this? Where are those items called Not healthy for mages or non mage items?

Uhm nope At least the Balanced mages I play really do suffer from mana and actually needs mana buffs

???

If you're actually running out of mana as a mage (or honestly as anyone) after the first back or two you're really terrible at mana management, or need to back more than every 10 minutes.

Lol , I uually farm with basic attacks and my abilities to trade I'm perfectly good at managing mana Champions I play Ahri who runs out of mana by using her basic abilities twice " you can't deny that " Orianna No seriously Orianna started being terrible with mana after the mana nerfs to mages , I used to never run out of mana on her before Lux Lux runs out of mana very fast without item 3802 , she is popular with her E being a lane bully , I only spam it whenever I get comet Syndra runs out of mana in early very fast Swain While I'm not sure if I'm good an managing my mana with him , I usually poke a lot , but Hell , I always run out of mana with him Fizz not a mage but runs out of mana very fast if he uses 2 rotations , tho he can farm with W , but still , runs out of mana if he tried to farm with E , he must go all in the enemy to poke and chunk their HP then kill them in the second rotation , while I hate Fizz but seriously the play style for most of players has changed and everyone wants to snowball

I'm perfectly fine with farming with basic attacks , but I'm pretty sure I'm good at managing my mana by just trading

I'm pretty fine with Ahri Lux after buying item 3802 , but hell , 1300 Gold isn't cheap at all , I'd rather buy item 1026 item 1052 and go to snowball as Ahri or Leblanc and recall after using 3 or 4 rotations whether I got a kill or not

LC is usually gotten on first back as a mage.

Legit the only reasons to not get it first back as a mage are either you got bullied out of lane before you had enough, or because you're buying Tear/Catalyst instead.

FCJAAAAGOOOO1 votes

Believe it or not, they should have to buy more. And the finished items should be much more worthwhile. Like seriously: how garbage are most of the items Tear/Catalyst builds into, right?

DuskDaUmbreon2 votes

Have to buy more? Eh.

It's fine for them to not need more mana items than a single LC upgrade. They just still need to have to manage it afterwards.

FCJAAAAGOOOO1 votes

The thing is is that mages shouldn't be waltzing around like there's no repercussions to picking a ranged champion with heavy lategame scaling and out-dueling a melee in laning phase. "Managing mana" at that point is not using more than they need to to kill the enemy laner.

It could be where despite losing quite a chunk of innate mana it is actually a BUFF as underrepresented mana items in this meta could then be hugely buffed to compensate!

It's time for Mana to be an actual resource for EVERYONE, not just mages.

It's almost as if I'm upset about Season 8's game balance. Thank goodness it's almost over and they might make some big, worthwhile changes soon.

I haven't seen Viktor Top yet, and according to Champion.gg his winrate as it isn't that exceptional. 51% - there are tons of top laners who are miles ahead of that.
