What if Varus and his Sister were re-released together similarly to Morgana & Kayle?

Varus receiving the Morgana sized Update (New Visuals, Voicelines, Ability Visuals, Animations).

And his Sister well, getting released as a new Champion I suppose (Female Darkin who would be a Support or a Mage, since we have Aatrox - Top, Rhaast - Jungle, Varus - Bot. But I think it would make much more sense if she was a Support since they don't seem on bad terms considering Varus is looking for her and it would seem quite interesting if they had a Kayle and Morgana sized connection between them).

  • Both having a gameplay connection to one another (similar abilities but with opposite effects) or (as one of my ideas in rough theory is her having a main Ability or Passive which would function as a double edged sword effect, where the pain that she endures she can give to her ally which would be Varus in this case, and how she would have means of surviving lots of damage hits to make this work. The idea that sparked this is her being this Darkin who has mastered of pain endurance and her weapon, which a lot of people want to be a whip can heal them).

  • Both having a lot of Voice Lines when near each other, or them both having a part to speak in the same sentence (Example... Sister: We are.. Varus: forsaken.)

I don't know, for me it just sounds kinda awesome in theory.

It would be very cool for us Varus mains.

But Varus doesn't matter and is irrelevant to Riot so good luck.

Unless they need an excuse for inclusion.

varus has a sister? i thought darkin cant biologically be related since all they are just weapons needing a user.

Eh idk the lore is just all screw up but in one of the last comic stories, Varus was in some lands of Shurima looking for someone and he specifically said "where are you sister?"

Varus was a regular man (but we don't know about what relatives he had before ascension due to the lore being redone), and after ascending he just joined the cause of fighting alongside the other God Warriors (Aatrox being one of them for instance). After things went south after the Icathia War, all of them were hunted down and sealed within their weapons with the help of the Aspect of Twilight.

I'm not sure what role this sister has within the story but I assume his sister is also a Darkin potentially because he would not have any other reason to seek her out besides re-united to Darkins (even though they don't all get along).

The Darkin lore as a whole is quite messy, and too inconsistent.

They technically could be, because they are just ascended humans like Nasus or Renekton, but my guess is that he means sister more in a very close friend or old friend from war kind of way.

The only Darkin I would have remotely considered to be a support would have been Naganeka, and she's most likely dead considering Cassiopeia's mutation into her likeness that she was cursed with when she was burgling a tomb.

Valeeva also didn't really carry herself as someone I'd expect to be a mage or a supportive type character - she was characterized by her seeking of vengeance, which is why we can assume she's Varus' sister. Also, the next Darkin doesn't necessarily have to be a support or a mage. That's just a fan theory, I wouldn't want the potential of a character shoehorned or limited by the "need" to place them in a specific role. She could just as easily be a jungler if you wanted someone who could come to Varus' aid.

It would be really awesome to have, Varus needs some visual and VO love+consistency.

My only fear is to have too much Val and Kai in that VO.

They kind of made Val and Kai a really big part of Varus' story now. He can't simply be "Varus the Darkin" after the whole cinematic and story and comics chronicling the inner conflicts that Varus has with the other two men.

I'm fine hearing them time to time, I just don't want them to be half or even more of the VO.

IMO he should have about 4-5 lines:

  • Serious dialogue between the 3 about their inner fight
  • Val/Kai struggling and fading away as Varus gets stronger
  • Varus mocking them
  • Them mocking Varus
  • Death voiceline with them all
  • A joke or taunt with them calling eachother "heartlight" and Varus mocking them about it

That's all I am willing to take (and I think it's fair as a limit, the champion here is Varus, not his victims).

Except, the champions is not just Varus. It's Varus and the 2 men who's bodies he stole. Varus is the Darkin occupying their bodies. They still exert control and take over from time to time, as we see in the comic when Val took over and was telling his family and his people good bye as he was leaving. They also take over when Varus is killing innocents, and are shown staying or resisting his urge to kill. They're a lot more than 4-5 voice lines because of the way they have been incorporated into Varus' being.

The champion is Varus, period.

The other 2 are plot tools as it would have been an1 who would have freed him. He is not a character ala Kayn (or Kindred) where the Human/Darkin duality has any ingame meaning and making Val able to control Varus for a while in the comic is just something to make things not that easy for Varus in-lore. It would be like asking to make Kallista spirits to be represented outside of her joke or Kai'Sa's void parasite.

Having Val and Kai acknowledged in some lines of his VO is all we should get.

The champion is not just Varus, period. The champion highlights Varus the Darkin as the one mostly in control (at current) but his new lore paints him very differently. Obviously, this would be rectified in a VU that would bring more prominence to Val and Kai, who are just as much a part of his new characterization.

It also doesn't matter that they're only present in the lore. This is the stupidity that I see so many people fall prey to. Characterization doesn't have to always translate into gameplay mechanics. Video games are characters, plots, gameplay, and visuals, all combined, and there can be elements of the lore and story in characters you play that doesn't have gameplay attached. Illaoi wanting to ride Braum like a pony doesn't translate into gameplay. Kalista having episodes of multiple personalities and losing who she is doesn't translate into gameplay. Her voice is even reverberated in most of her VO to indicate that she's many speaking as one. The point is, making a character rich and interesting is part of building them as a character. So Varus' voice over representing his constant inner struggles with Val and Kai can definitely and should be a part of a new VO for him, regardless of whether or not it has significance to his play. It's what he is now as a character.

Stars Shaper1 votes

That's why I'm offering a full coverage of their situation.

Val and Kai are empty characters that find meaning only in being plot tools, their characterization is null even after 2 comics and a music video centered on them. Anything more than what I wrote has no meaning since it doesn't get an ingame/kit representation.

Yeah understandable considering most of the so called lore update was focused around the hunters (which I wouldn't mind if we also got some info on Varus himself, who conveniently got left out).

Stars Shaper1 votes

Yeah, I understand that Val and Kai focus served the aim to give a tragic story to start with, I even liked it as idea, not as execution though.

Still is kind of disappointing that we know more about those 2 than the champion we are playing.

This specifically is what has been bugging me so much lately or it has ever since the lore update.
