Darius: The champion the punishes you for existing.

A passive that gives him free trades without the work.

A Q that rewards him for very no brains aiming with almost borderline unkillable sustain and has no drawbacks because it's on an extremely low CD with low mana so even when missed it'll be right back up.

A W and an E that assists him in covering his only weakness.

An ult that rewards him with some of the best damage in the game for doing no extra work than Autoing and Q'ing and allows for an almost 1 shot on squishies with passive proc'd.

Finally he has some of the best itemization available to him in the game because he only needs 1 damage item and the 1 he builds works so well with his kit that it's ridiculous.

The counterplay to Darius is choosing Champions that either fight better than him, or can passively ignore his attempts to trade and all-in you. He's very strong against Champions that will hesitate to fight back, but in reality he doesn't perform much better than most Champions in a dedicated fight in-lane.

Champions like Tryndamere, Kayle, or Aatrox have an incredibly one-sided matchup against him when used by a player familiar with positioning.

Darius is intended to be a Champion for players to be able to simply pick up and play at their leisure, he's not designed to be mechanically intensive or difficult to pilot properly, so of course he's going to be a Champion with less punishing drawbacks. That doesn't mean he's not without his Achilles' Heel, it just means you have to punish his weaknesses even harder than normal to get it through his head that he's losing because he's good at pretending he's not.

Hi Darius, meet Teemo . He punishes you for missing your pull and your Q.

He has no mobility.

He has no CC.

He is melee.

... so maybe don't pick melee champions against him?

Even Garen is more obnoxious than Darius .

Well he technically does have CC, just not too much of it

Wasn't his old Q stronger?

Wasn't his old Q stronger?

His %Health heal makes it super damn obnoxious to deal with and due to it's super low CD and mana cost he can cast it any number of times to sustain through fights.

Pick Garen into him. Garen's innate tankiness and out of combat sustain makes Darius really work for it. He can also mitigate the opening damage from Darius with his W. Once he pulls you in, W and spin to win.

What alot of these comments are missing is not his laning phase but his teamfight. Yes he is immobile, yes he has not so amazing CC but what if you cover these minor details with a ton of other kits to back it up? People get pinned down, he sustains through focus on him with his Q, he stacks his passive, then immediately after getting that broken AD steroid from his passive he ults dealing anywhere from 600 to a full 1k true damage then proceeds to insta proc his passive on other targets then immediately ulting and 1 shotting the poor squishies all while his team provides the CC.
