Both options are dicks.

This is the only one who got the answer right. Both sides are unrelateable, poorly thought-out cliches which would matter if the event wasn't just a lame publicity stunt that won't change a thing or have any effect on the game beyond adding yet another unused summoner icon to people's collections.

Because the endless war faction use better sugar coating like "at least you fought", "rather die than kneel", "freedom/free-will"... etc.

When in reality, a world full of war, is where freedom doesn't exist at all barring 1 case, that you are free to fuck off and die any time you want. What a good world to be in.

Order is what allows all these couch anarchists have the elevated standards of living, having a choice, and time and resources to preach their shit, but they fantasise a world with them and diss the current world of order that they casually leech the benefits off.

To be fair you can also fight for peace and defend your area. Imagine a lawless land where the strong dominate the weak; Thats noxian ideals. Thats the freedom darius offers. The freedom to fight for what you want. Now imagine a land of laws and peace where the people fight the outsiders who want to destroy their area. This is also a freedom Darius offers - the freedom to pursue your ideals.

Garen? Garen's order is "Bow to me and heed my will alone". He takes away freedom for a kind of peace... But a peace that stagnates and festers over time. Garen is like a pond; Clear and safe at the beginning, but its stagnant and will eventually rot.
Darius is like a river that branches off in thousands of different places; Rough and hard to navigate, but branches off into thousands of safer streams that flow out to carve their own channels.

if that "freedom" is as good as it sounds, people wouldn't have tried so hard to make rules. Because a world where everything goes, only just means the one holding a bigger bat/club rules. Subjugation of the weak and the vulnerable will be rife and any diplomatic, intellectual, and moral/ethical etc discourse will be impossible and irrelevant in the world where everyone bows to the one who can hold a bigger axe waiting to hack the other in half because they disagree with them.

"Freedom to pursue your ideals" sounds good when flapped out of one's mouth, but one must realise such a thing will never be possible if the environment doesn't explicitly allows such a thing. And an environment of such gentle nature does NOT exist in nature, but instead in human designs. Tell me, how is it going to be possible for a blind person to access education without any sort of establishment, which would mean some orders are in place to create and facilitate such a thing, without having any kind of order? How is it going to be possible for a kid in the country town to access medical attendance at an affordable price and prevent the doctors from ripping them off? How is it going to be possible to forbid slavery and crimes against other individuals who can not fight back by themselves, ie the disabled, the born-frail, the old, and the young? Or how is it going to be possible to trace the responsibility of a crime, without some kind of metric like laws, to define and enforce such a thing and discourage potential future instances from taking place; or do you suppose a world full of revenge seekers over another's crime a proper forms of society? Those things don't grow on trees up for grabs, someone have to be there to create the necessary infrastructure to allow those things, which will need a gigantic resources to realise, and it can not be done without any kind of proper order in place.

A world without order only ever provides ample "freedom" to those WHO ARE ALREADY IN POWER, and punishes those who are not already at the apex; the weak can not stand up for themselves, sure they have the "freedom" to fight, but we all know for a fact they can't do shit anyway precisely because they are weak and vulnerable, ie it's a fake "freedom" like a good Catch-22. If you haven't noticed anything, that "freedom" you speak of, is the exact opposite of actual freedom.

Your pond vs river analogy is also utterly nonsensical in my eyes. There is a reason why human societies develop AFTER the invention of "orderly" things like language, formality, moral, laws, etc, which are all fundamental to a society's existence. Even if you want to go back into the warring states era, each states still had its own laws and order. So what exactly does chaos even bring? If you have to use the 'water' analogy, chaos is the mirage oasis in a desert; it looks good from a distance, but its "good-ness" is imagined and fueled by your desperation and is in reality non-existent, a fake promise that results in death.

Unjust as fights may be, the fight for order only needs to fight ONCE, an once achieved, there will be no bloodshed; that's one hell of a bargain in comparison to endless wars, don't you think? And if orders are true to its words, reforms and whatnot can nonetheless happen, just that it will be less chaotic when it does. It's a complete fallacy that order will only means stagnation. Remember, all of the laws, moral codes, whatever, exist to SOLVE problems, not to create them. They might create problems independent from the problems that were there since the very beginning (prejudice against homosexual, for instance, was a created problem), but that's a minuscule minority to the issues they fix and the amount of lives it improves, and also why law and order gets updated in an orderly fashion. On the other hand, pure and utter anarchy will result in absolutely nothing, and the world will be stuck in a permanent stone-age where even something as trivial as drinking water can kill you (no order, no recognised basic human rights, no establishment, no infrastructure, no clean water. One of the first attempt to "clean hydration" came in the form of the invention of alcohol in the ancient age, which required some kind of order to distribute the knowledge and mass produce it, so that people were not dying like literal flies, and a civilisation could even be had). The only liberation a world without any order can bring is death, and that's not "freedom".

Remember, the sole reason why every countries are properly ordered, or at least most of them try to anyway, is because chaos lost in the wars that lasted eons with order. If you have to use your chaos ideal in application of this, people exercised their freedom to fight and die for the peaceful and progressive society the order offers, not the endless strife and destruction that will only be brought about in its absence. That should say something.

Without any forms of order, no one can be productive, and the world will be permanently stuck fighting over the smallest of things. A world of endless strife is utterly counterproductive, and will ultimately results nothing. That's why rules and orders were even made, to give people chances in their own terms. Order is what both PROMISES and GRANTS a person freedom, the chaos only does the former. Therefore, to suggest that the lack of laws should be the answer, is both immature and highly uninsightful.

..........

Also, as I was saying in another thread, I also find it VERY ODD that people can only see order in the worst light of dystopia, but can't do the same for chaos, in which they go out of their way to fantasise a great deal of and in the most positive way ever.

I guess it's to do with media having a fetish to be as meaningless rebellious as possible, but seriously, you don't want to live in a world where orders don't exist. Wanna know how I know? Buy a 1 way ticket into the most lawless part of the world and stay there for 5 years, then come back and tell me how you think orders are BS.

Plenty of people break stupid 'laws and orders' all the time for a beneficial life.

Just because a law or an order exists doesn't mean its right.

I think you romanticized Law and Chaos a bit much.

Things in the US are pretty dystopian. We have a bunch of laws and orders that keep the rich, rich and the poor, poor.

Sure we have some benefits. But compared to other countries its a bit of a joke.

Healthcare system most people can't buy into.

Debt Slavery with employment and low wages.

Corporations holding global wealth over countries.

Our democracy is a joke.

Trump is a joke.

And you see this as a sign of progress and laws?

Bring in the chaos. Because 'order' has made a real mess of things.

And the price they paid for it wasn't worth the cost.

There is a difference between bad order and order being bad.

Laws can improve and become better, which is what it's been doing for the last many years. The reason why human lives have been a billion times better than the days of getting rekt by wild animals and dying from drinking unclean water is because orders had become a thing and it facilitates progress. The problem with anarchy is essentially is the state of nothing, and you can't improve nothingness; and to make nothingness "better", one must create something, which is the direct opposite of it, and in this description, law.

Just because you messed up and built a house of faulty designs, doesn't mean the idea of building a house is wrong or bad, it just means you need to fix this house of yours. In the end of the day, a house is still better than having no house.

For another example, Ancient Greece was basically upturned because of democracy, as it was a highly primitive form of it and resulted in a state of mob rule than a society in which everyone had a say. Does this mean democracy as an idea is faulty? No. It just means the way Ancient Greeks implemented democracy was inadequate. Because people having a say is still ultimately, a good thing.

You don't find discussing philosophy and politics fascinating?

This VS Event can be applied to real-life problems as well.

The Whamboozler1 votes

It's not discussing philosophy... it's an event in a video game that I play alone.

Even if we WERE to discuss it... both champion's stances are equally extreme, cliche and awful. Non-stop war and strife would blow chucks just as much as severe oppressive tyranny. Maybe if the issue was one with more nuance to it there'd be something worth discussing... or if it was going to have any kind of lasting effect on the game or lore. It won't tho, and given that both choices are cartoonishly extreme I don't see how anyone can really argue for or against either of them.

It's not a philosophical debate. It's two exaggerated strawmen stances that are both different kinds of awful. I get that "everything is extremist and awful" IS how NA politics run right now... but that doesn't mean I'm interested in arguing on which type of supervilliany is better. It's like having a serious discussion over whether you'd rather be stabbed in the balls or shot in the balls. Some people might like talking it over, but I'd rather just not have either, thanks.

Human laws are some of the most impractical devices ever.

You can try to justify the laws lead to a civilized world, but rarely in society and the world is that the case.

Most laws only preserve the self interest of individual gain; while exploiting others.

To just blindly state... let's build a hundred houses made of cheap materials and sell them. Just to fix them up later isn't very resourceful both in logic and sustainability.

To just make up laws as we go. Not thinking about the longterm effect on society. Is both dangerous and chaotic.

Laws can be unchanging and binding. They can lead to stagnation and oppression and often do.

Do you know why countries are founded? Because people have the choice to and they have the choice to fight for their country.

Garens order is that of fascism; He controls the economy, the military, and the people. He is not law, he is not justice, and he is not kosher. He is a tyrant. He is the kind of order that annexed Crimea. He is the kind of order that denies Palestinian existence. He is the kind of order that the Muslim faith bases its doctrines on. He is the kind of order that Nazi Germany propelled into war.
He is the kind of order that uses chemical weapons to put down protestors. He is the kind of order that forces people to prostrate as he goes past. He is the kind of order that forces children to become soldiers. He is the kind of order that cannot stand others on the same stage.

Darius is the freedom of choice. He is the kind of choice that lets you fight for your country. He is the kind of choice that lets you fight for a displaced peoples rights. He is the kind of choice that lets you choose not to live and die by the dogma. He is the kind of choice that lets you fight wars for your ideals. He is the kind of choice that lets you denounce those who terrorize their own people. He is the kind of choice that lets you sell condos to dictators. He is the kind of choice that lets you drone strike monsters who prey on the young. He is the kind of choice that lets you band together to put down a bully who thinks hes a god-king.

Under garens order there would be no grey area, only black and white. You have no voice, you are a number in his realm and that is all you are. There is no dissent, there is no differing opinion, there is no dialogue. There is the order, and there is death.

laws are not there to create order, laws are there to enforce order. Every community will create their own rules, and if those rules are broken they will be punished as needed. Thats what darius offers. Darius offers the ability to create your own areas and defend them, to grow as you wish and not as another tells you to.

You case against Garen is a case of strawman argument with a heavy dash of ad hominem, attacking an imaginary opponent with imaginary argument and 0 argument towards why you think order is wrong, or why you think the lack thereof is actually superior. You also insulted Muslims just to make a null point (fun fact: Islam is based off post-NewTestament Christianity and Judaism, you dork).

Similarly you used a very biased presentation when outlining the 2, you mentions the positive or neutral for Darius, and only mention the negative or neutral for Garen. In the case of Garen, you utterly fail to mention even 1 positive that brings about with order, due to your pre-determined idea that orders can only mean bad things and so you only mention the cases when order goes horribly wrong and usually happen in the state of or descent into anarchy rather than an actually well established and ordered society.

Essentially, your case with the 2 is utterly horse shit.

"very community will create their own rules, and if those rules are broken they will be punished as needed. Thats what darius offers."

Except it's not. His vision of the world is quote-unquote "a world of eternal wars".

And this is also funny, you are saying that Darius is good because orders are good. Hmm okay. Maybe because order is a good thing, I mean, you seem to agree?

This brings me back to a topic that I've wondered a few times: Why people have to use the most negative tinted glasses when looking at order but choose to use the most positive tinted glasses when looking at anarchy? Why do people believe that order is automatically dystopian and chaos is automatically liberation? Why do people have to support anarchy while they are happily latching off the benefits, resources, and freedom brought to them by the ordered society? Why do people believe having 0 establishment and any forms of universal platform will solve all of the problems, or even any problems for that matter? Why is chaos so superior when it in fact results in literally nothing of the vast majority of the last 200,000 years when the modern humans first emerged, and orders have brought about so much after just a couple thousands? Why people attribute freedom and choices to chaos when world of chaos is where you die from drinking water and dying to simple cold, and a world of order is what allowed systems and infrastructures to exist that improves one's live and enables freedoms and choices? Etc etc etc?

Urgh.

You seem to be under the impression that garens form of order was good at a base level. It is not. The concept of personal freedom is one of the base tenets of western civilization - its why we rebel and why we fight so hard if we choose. It is not order itself that is bad, dude. It is "order through slavery" that IS BAD.

Further, you have this odd notion that endless war always means someone is out to get you and theres no way to get your roots settled. Thats just plain wrong and a product of your own fevered imagination in regards to freedom - Where Garen offers slavery Darius offers survival. Under Garens shadow you CANNOT band together to fight for what you believe in. Under Darius's ideals you CAN band together to fight for what you believe in.

I think thats the fundamental piece youre missing. Youre not understanding that people can and will band together, and that those groups will eventually grow while protected by fighters who believe in their cause, who believe in their ideals.

Also, as i said earlier, even if garen lost it doesnt mean hes going to suddenly change his ways. It means that hes no longer FORCING PEOPLE to bend to his will - whats going to happen is that God-king garen will stop expanding and grow naturally through diplomatic means as Darius, and the forces hes allowed to flourish, push back against the tyrant if theres any signs of conquest.

Thats kind of the whole crux of the event. Garen, the tyrant who offers protection through ownership, is expanding his empire and murdering those who dont want to give up their autonomy. Darius, the force of change, offers freedom through choosing what you fight for and giving you the ability to fight in the first place.

Maybe this is just me, but I'm completely fine with having someone else take decisions for me.

If Garen's only criteria is "Serve me" and I have a completely functional society where I can just live my life? Then hell yeah dude. Sign me up.

If Darius' only criteria is "Lol prepare to make every single day for the rest of your life into a living hell with unecessary fighting but hey at least you're doing it for your own "ideals" so it's k", I'm going to have to pass.

I think people value quote on quote "free will" a little too highly.

You vote for endless war for 3 reasons 1) You have absolutely no clue what so ever what war really is, not to say endless war and 2) You dont understand that you have been shaped to blindly accept the blatant lie "war is freedom" and as such dont have any "free will" anyway 3) You are to young (or have to low IQ) to understand the human condition. War is not natural, nor is it productive, nor is it good. It benefits a small group of wealthy men, and everybody else suffers. Nothing that is good about humanity comes from war and if you think so, it is because you dont have enough "free will" to see through the lies of those that benefit from war.

... What koolaid have YOU been drinking? War is as natural to humans as eating - we are literally coded down to our DNA to fight for survival. Thats what war is an extrapolation of; Survival. The gathering of resources needed to survive, the building of a legacy upon which immortality is gained, the need to protect your people.

The freedom that Garen offers is fascism - hes a dictator, a tyrant garbed in holy light. You follow his will or you die by his blade; he IS the one power. The freedom Darius offers is the freedom to choose your ideals - to choose what you want to fight for, to advance as YOU wish and not how your god king wishes.

Both have their merits, and the war of the god kings wont end... Even if darius wins, Garen will still fight for his ideals because thats the freedom darius offers. Its not a false choice, its a real choice. What YOU fight for is not some corporate machine designed to milk the masses, its a choice you make yourself.

Wrong! War is NOT natural. If you think it is so you are brainwashed to be a pawn of people that would use you for their own ends.

In this scenario non of the kings offer something that is "good" they only offer evil. That is the morale of the whole story.

Uh wrong. Kindness is a learned trait, humanity is naturally prone to not care about people whom they arent close to.

Theres... Theres literally studies about this subject that prove conflict is hard wired into our DNA. Hell our closest animal relatives will band together and fight other communities when resources are scarce.

Yes and 150 years ago there was studies that showed that you could determine if someone was a criminal by measuring his skull. Those were also wrong.

By that logic science is all one big lie because at any time it can be disproven and therefore its all poppycock and we should listen to the good book.

Because the event was pointless, both skins were lousy and both characters were exaggerated cliches that were impossible to get invested in...

But the wolf looked cool. So I voted for the wolf.

For me, it was because Garen gave me the impressions of a dictator with way too much pride and I hate characters like that. Darius is also irritating but not so much as Garen is.

Darius may be a major douche, just like his brother, but noxus are actually the good guys.

LeftyRaydy1 votes

I would choose free will and war over peace with heavy oppression.

Linna Excel1 votes

Darius doesn't believe in free will though. He's a fight or be a slave kind of guy.

LeftyRaydy1 votes

That isnt true he believes in fighting and even imagines the people under him rising up to kill him. the negative part though is he only believes the physically strong are worthwhile

As someone familiar with PNP, I would argue that there are more CE/CN gamers in general for US and EU territories than there are lawful ones.
