Let's talk about masteries. What needs to be buffed or changed
Hey guys and girls,
I've wanted to have an open discussion and your own opinions about every single mastery in the game. From Ferocity to Resolve, every mastery has always a very important component for combat stats, sustain, more damage, tankyness, better heals and shields, life steal and spell vamp, tenacity, damage reduction, more health, and many many more.
On this post, i'll have a small comment on each mastery in the game. You can also debate if my comment and if i'm wrong, say something that it could be better or could stay the same. And a little bit of a comparison between similar season 4-5 masteries.
Ferocity
Tier 1
- Comparing to Season 4-5, this mastery was nerfed, but I honestly have nothing to say to it. For ADC's or offensive jungler, this is a goto mastery and it's pretty good.
- Honestly this is a really interesting mastery. It's a new one and replaces the old Sorcery by having ability damage over cooldown. I think it's very underpowered and it needs a few buffs for it. An ability who does 100 damage only amplifies 2% of it, and it's only 2 more damage.
Tier 2
https://am-a.akamaihd.net/image?f=http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/5.22.2/img/mastery/6121.png&resize=32: Double Edged Sword
- Another mastery that I personally have nothing to say. Ported from old masteries, it's a good mastery for any champion.
- After the small nerf to the Feast, I think it should also restore mana with it, half of it to be precise (10). This can make mages and mana champion take this mastery to get that small amount of mana.
Expose Weakness
- This mastery is very very good, but I wish it was introduced in the Cunning tree.
Tier 3
- Once again, small nerf from season 4-5 masteries. Nothing to say to it. It's good and helps for sustain, even though it's a small portion of it.
https://am-a.akamaihd.net/image?f=http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/5.22.2/img/mastery/6134.png&resize=32: Natural Talent
- Ok, this once it the only mastery that bugs me the most. Since most mages go for Thunderlords, the only champions who uses this mastery are hybrid, and it's a very small amount. In my opinion, this mastery should only contain AP and have another mastery called "Marcial Mastery" containing AD. Personally, seperating AD and AP from Natural Talent will make people take both masteries, instead of the sustain Vampirism.
Tier 4
https://am-a.akamaihd.net/image?f=http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/5.22.2/img/mastery/6141.png&resize=32: Bounty Hunter
- An interesting mastery for snowball champions and agressive champions. Nothing to say to it. It's good.
- Never understood this mastery. Do I deal 2.5% more damage to CC'ed targets at the moment or at the moment and a few seconds later too? Regardless, I think it should be buffed.
Tier 5
- Pointing out that both Tier 5 masteries are very fine and they are very very good for any champion. Nothing to say to it.
Keystones
https://am-a.akamaihd.net/image?f=http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/5.22.2/img/mastery/6161.png&resize=32: Warlord's Bloodlust
- And we are finally here. Warlords got a new rework to it, and honestly, it's still pretty bad in any situation. Only a few champions can capitalize it (Olaf, Aatrox, etc), but ADC's highly prefer Fervor of Battle now. I don't know how to make this mastery good, but since it came out this patch, i'll have to wait for results to see if it's good or not.
https://am-a.akamaihd.net/image?f=http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/5.22.2/img/mastery/6162.png&resize=32: Fervor of Battle
- Now that this mastery was buffed, it's very strong on ADCs and auto attack reliant champions. It's on a good state, finally.
https://am-a.akamaihd.net/image?f=http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/5.22.2/img/mastery/6164.png&resize=32: Deathfire Touch
- Noticing that a few champions can use this very effectively (like Jhin now), it still needs a small buff for the AP Ratio of it. The rest it still good.
Cunning
Tier 1
- Helpful for supports and jungler. Good mastery and no need to be changed.
- 3 Damage buff from Season 4-5. Looks good. Nothing to say.
Tier 2
https://am-a.akamaihd.net/image?f=http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/5.22.2/img/mastery/6321.png&resize=32: Runic Affinity
- Jungle mastery.
https://am-a.akamaihd.net/image?f=http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/5.22.2/img/mastery/6322.png&resize=32: Secret Stash
- Port from Season 4-5. Helpful for mages and supports.
Assassin
Good mastery, but once again, should be placed in the Ferocity tree.
Tier 3
- Good mastery for mages. Nothing to say. Another port from Season 4-5.
- Another mage and support mastery that it good.
Tier 4
- Cool mastery for everyone. It's a good mastery because even if you miss a CS, you'll get 1 gold as a compensation. Ty Riot :)
https://am-a.akamaihd.net/image?f=http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/5.22.2/img/mastery/6343.png&resize=32: Dangerous Game
- Could be buffed, but a Dangerous Game is a Dangerous Game.
Tier 5
- This can work for mages and maybe Thunderlord users. It's good and offers penetration at all levels and scales good.
https://am-a.akamaihd.net/image?f=http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/5.22.2/img/mastery/6352.png&resize=32: Intelligence
- A big thank you for Riot for increasing the cooldown cap with this mastery. It's a good mastery that currently works mostly for supports. They don't break it and make supports in a better place.
Keystone
https://am-a.akamaihd.net/image?f=http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/5.22.2/img/mastery/6361.png&resize=32: Stormraider's Surge
- And now we get to my favorite mastery. It's one of the best masteries Riot created, but offers almost no point of taking it, unless you have high burst. Personally, having tenacity alongside the slow resistance will make burst champions take this instead of Thundelords.
https://am-a.akamaihd.net/image?f=http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/5.22.2/img/mastery/6362.png&resize=32: Thunderlord's Decree
- We get to the most used mastery in the league. We already had a small nerf of it early game and a buff late game, but it's now very balanced. Might need a very very small nerf of the ratios, but now that other masteries were buffed, there's no need to change it.
https://am-a.akamaihd.net/image?f=http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/5.22.2/img/mastery/6363.png&resize=32: Windspeaker's Blessing
- A very good support keystone. If the armor and magic resist scaled harder, it could be even better.
Resolve
Tier 1
- Combine this mastery with Runic Armor and you have the best regen combination.
- Tanky mastery for tanky champions. Was nerfed in the pre-season, but it's still good for stacking resistances champions.
Tier 2
- Was slighly buffed and for junglers or roaming supports, it's a goto mastery.
- Mastery for junglers. Nothing to say.
Tier 3
https://am-a.akamaihd.net/image?f=http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/5.22.2/img/mastery/6231.png&resize=32: Runic Armor
- Mentioned for combining this with Recovery. Champions with self shields and strong healing like Mundo, Garen, etc is very good with this mastery.
https://am-a.akamaihd.net/image?f=http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/5.22.2/img/mastery/6232.png&resize=32: Veteran's Scars
- Was changed to flat health for a better early game, but I highly prefered the bonus % maximum health.
Tier 4
- There's already a distortion boots enchantment so I honestly don't really take this in any champion, except play making champions or even supports.
https://am-a.akamaihd.net/image?f=http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/5.22.2/img/mastery/6242.png&resize=32: Perseverance
- Nothing to say. Another good mastery for champions with strong regeneration.
Tier 5
- Good mastery, combined with the buffed Mercury Treads. nothing to say.
https://am-a.akamaihd.net/image?f=http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/5.22.2/img/mastery/6252.png&resize=32: Legendary Guardian
- So I finally get to this mastery. Taking this should make you tankier in teamfights, but Swiftness is far better. Buffing the numbers would make it better.
Keystones
https://am-a.akamaihd.net/image?f=http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/5.22.2/img/mastery/6261.png&resize=32: Grasp of the Undying
- A very good goto keystone for top laners. It makes laning much better and offers sustain vs combating champions. It's good and it doesn't need changes.
https://am-a.akamaihd.net/image?f=http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/5.22.2/img/mastery/6262.png&resize=32: Strength of the Ages
- A jungle keystone at the moment. Rarely picked for laning. Nothing to say.
https://am-a.akamaihd.net/image?f=http://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/5.22.2/img/mastery/6263.png&resize=32: Bond of Stone
- This helps laning with an ADC as a support. Taking this outside of bot lane can be risky.
