Players leave after urf because league has forgotten it's roots
The game use to be about fun, the hyper competative edge is specifically why many of my friends have been cited to be leaving the game
Some players, not all, but enough, find that after a fun mode like Urf they realize they just want to... dick around, not worry about the win more than the game
Seriously, how many of us actually care more about our wins than stopping and enjoying the match for a second.
Modes like Urf or Aram take away some of the seriousness of the game, realizing that there is no serious attempt at balance for these modes makes the game feel pretty laid back.
I don't get even slightly annoyed if someone on my team is feeding their ass off in urf, or aram. But in ranked, and even in norms, I find myself tilted at a mid laner going 0/5
I shouldn't feel like that, but i know it's common, and so long as you don't open your mouth about it you're entitled on a level for that feeling (Just don't start flaming bruh)
now here's the kicker, I liked the original Urf because it felt like freedom, This new mode brings the toxic mentality of balance into a mode not meant for ranked play.
Urf isn't the only mode that i've picked up having this.
The funny thing is that we have so many game modes
-Hexakill -Bloodmoon -Project -Star Guardian -Ascension -nexus siege -poro king -dominion -one for all -aram -twisted treeline -Black Market And all of their mutations, with subtle changes like arcade map skins, to even the idea of combining the elements of some of these modes (ArDominion/ Hexakill on TT, One for all urf, etc)
These are the modes that the game isn't designed to be balanced around, and that's fine. But how many of us just into an aram specifically to win it? vs how many of us jump into a norms specifically to win?
Sure I always want to win, but I don't want to feel like winning is the only objective. The objective should be having fun, above all else.
So here's an idea.
Give us the rotating game mode constantly, but make it a randomized game when we go in, So we wont know what exactly we're getting into. We can re-rune in under 25 seconds, so give us a minute after locking in just to make sure we're all set. Throw in some random mutations, but put in the base versions too, Urf Nexus siege, AR ascension, One for all TT, hexakill Dominion, and anything else you can think up. Maybe throw a rank version of it for people who want to tryhard in various situations to see how good they can adapt.
In addition to that, give us the ability to make custom matches with these game modes, if people want to play your game casually, let them. It'd be fun, and in the right spirit to get on your discord server and make an urf mode 10 man game, throw your own mini tournements with a prize pool function, like with predetermined rewards bought by the people who threw it (Or even everyone throws in a single thing, like skins/rp/chromas that they pay for)
finally just let us have fun, sure ranked is great, but I honestly can never stick to trying to rank up even with a 60+% winrate, I just get tired of it.
norms can feel the same way sometimes, I don't even tryhard in norms, but it just seems so hardcore competative and that's not how i want to play every single match.
