Ornn Impressions after 20+ games. Riot needs to do some work!

I have played Ornn for 20+ games, in fact I came back to LOL to play him, and here are my impressions.

  1. Its pretty impossible to build him, his stats are all over. His Q scales on AD, his W doesnt scale at all and his E scales on Armor+Magic resist but only at 30% for each. SO if you have 200 armor you only get an extra 60 damage pre mitigation. To make it even more nuts, his R scales on AP!!! What crazy psycho thought this up?

  2. His W doesn't scale enough to be effective late game because you have to follow up the brittle with an auto. So using your E after brittle does nothing to damage them.

  3. His R is nearly impossible to hit right because its a double cast and the timing has to be perfect. Any kind of CC, knock up or anything leaves him with a weak 125 / 175 / 225 (+ 20% AP) damage and NO ONE builds AP on orn because that is the ONLY skill that scales based on AP. On top of it the R cooldown is one of the longest ULT cooldowns.

  4. His Q is very weak and slow. SO a combo with Q-E is almost impossible. This makes his Q quasi useless because of its low damage.

All of this combined together gives him a split personality that's hard to reconcile. YOu can truly only build for one of his abilities, not all 4. You have to pick one and there are no real good answers. If you build AP you get only 20% scaling on your R. If you build Armor and magic resist you get only a 30% payooff. Building AD is weak because of only one skill and since you are charging in the middle you will get focused and melted.

As for forging down field, its convenient sometimes but really doesn't do that much. You can sustain a bit better but half the time one backs its because of health as well, not just getting items.

How to fix him?

Riot needs to decide what he is. Is he a damage dealer, a tank? What? If he is a tank then his E needs to scale better. If he is damage dealer then his E should scale off AD. At any rate for the LOVE OF GOD make his R scale on either AD or ARMOR / MR to at least make him buildable.

Why does a tank need better scaling/stats?

He's a utility vanguard, nothing about him should be strong besides him face tanking and hard CCing a team with the utility of item upgrades and being able to build items without backing.

  1. He's a Tank, so build him as a Tank, simple as that. Don't build AD or AP, and don't care about the scalings on Q/R.

  2. As a Tank late game, your role is not to do damage anyway.

  3. Well, practice more. I've played against a lot of Ornn tonight, and quite a few of them managed to hit some good ults. It's not Malphite R, and that's a GOOD thing.

  4. The role of Q is to set up the combo with E, not to do damage by itself. The combo with E is possible, talking from experience. It's also important to note the zoning threat. Yes, Q is slow and has a delay, but if all the enemy team walk away from your pillar for fear of your E knock-up, that's already a victory, an opportunity to push a tower or finish a dragon, etc.

Riot needs to decide what he is. Is he a damage dealer, a tank? What?

He obviously is a Tank, but you seem to have strange idea about Tanks in general... Look at other Tanks scalings, and you'll see they are just as bad. Malphite has quite a few AP ratios but no one seriously builds AP anyway, same for Maokai, Sejuani, Alistar or Leona or even Gragas. Sion has a strange mix of AD and AP, but people build at most one offensive item on him, and it's usually something like Titanic that scales from HP or Cleaver for the utility it provides, not the AD for the scalings. And Braum is exactly like Ornn. R scales badly from AP, E doesn't scale at all, W scales with Armor/MR, and Q scales from a different stat entirely (HP, in this case). And no one complains about it, because you simply build Tank item because he's a Tank, period.

Have to agree, while ive only really played him twice, the first time top he did well early on and then i just couldnt damage anyone. The CC i brought was meh at best, and the ult was easily mitigated by any kind of crowd control.

Then I attempted support, and yeah same thing, just nothing that a good support brings to the table, your only option is to hard engage, crafting in lane is nice but...bleh

he is meant more to tank and set up CC chains. Q is for both poke and set up. In scuffles the enemy won't always notice a pillar behind them. W is wave clear, self shield during fights, and the set up that is the new Brittle debuff. Even if you can't always waddle your demi-god butt to the enemy to whack them with Hammer, doesn't make it a bad thing. Then you have team fight moments. should you have teammates with CC then if you can set up the enemy with Brittle your ally could get the hit and stick the target in place then what the original cc would of done. E is once more a bit of utility and not so much the scaling. You can use it to fall back, dodge a skill shot, close the distance a bit, knock-up enemies if done well, and can break player made terrain like Anivia's Ice Wall or J4's ult. R is not impossible, just a very small window to get that bounce right.

I think ornn is best served as a support. He doesn't have the scaling to justify a solo lanes farm. His ganking isn't amazing either out of the jungle.

His two stuns and strong slow serve an adc well in bot.

The only thing i want is to get a little movespeed when moving towards brittle champions, when the only way i can trigger it is either by e knock up, ult slow or aa. Ofcourse i can build the retard ass righteous glory but god, is it a waste of an item slot

The answer is obvious! You s hould be buying gunblade!
