Question About Taric's W: Bastion

I was playing ARAM against a Taric, and other champions obviously.

So Taric has Bastion on an ally, and he begins casting his Ultimate. Before the Ultimate is cast, we manage to kill Taric. However, his Ult still cast from the Bastion ally.

The mechanic of Bastion allows Taric's spells to be cast from the affected ally. However, considering it's not actually the ally casting the spell- I think Taric's death should cancel the spells being cast. Specifically his E and R- the two spells that Taric can cast and die before the spell is actually cast.

Bastion is Taric's ability, I imagine it works like a mirror. So if anything happens to Taric that would cancel the ability being cast, the same should apply to his ally affected by Bastion.

My question: Is Taric's Bastion meant to cast abilities despite Taric's inability to do so himself?

Honestly, I'm not complaining. I'm juts now learning it works this way. I can adapt. I just don't think it makes sense- because Taric is the actual source of this magic.. you know?

What the poster above is trying to say is that when Taric casts Dazzle/Cosmic Radiance, the delay before it fires off happens AFTER the cast is executed. So even if Taric dies, the spell is still considered cast even though it hasn't finished it's delay. Think of it like pushing a button to launch a missile. If you hit that giant red button to commenced launch sequence, you've fired the missle. So even if someone shoots you dead after you've pushed the button, they can't stop the missile from being fired.

Except Taric pushes a red button that fires 2 missiles. And 1 missile is stopped upon killing him.

Yes, but the cast is still executed, because his spells duplicate on the linked ally. He has still cast the spell because he pushed R. There is a delay before the spell lands, but it is still cast. The mechanics involved in his spell casting still take effect, and if he cast R on an ally, then R will cast on an ally. You are confusing the delay and land with actual spell cast. For instance: Janna presses E targeting Sivir. A shield instantly appears on Sivir. It has been cast on Sivir and even if Janna dies, the shield will have already been cast on Sivir. Taric casts R, linked to Sivir. He has cast Cosmic Radiance on Sivir, but the effect is not instant. It has been cast on Sivir and even if Taric dies, Cosmic Radiance will still have been cast on Sivir.

When Taric casts Bastion on an ally, they gain "Bastion" as a passive benefit. When Taric leaves the radius of Bastion the tether is broken but the ally retains Bastion as an inactive effect, which will automatically reactivate when Taric enters the radius again, even if he doesn't recast it. As long as he has cast Bastion on an ally and he hasn't re-casted it on someone else, the ally will always have Bastion's latent data, waiting to be reactivated.

This is why Dazzle and Cosmic Radiance will continue to be cast even after Taric's death. When cast from an ally, they draw from the ally's Bastion data instead of Taric's native data. And since Bastion remains as a latent passive, it remains on an ally even after death. The ally spawns an instance of Cosmic Radiance and Dazzle that is dependent on their Bastion code but does not take into account Taric's state.

The problem with programming it as a mirrored effect as you suggest comes from his Q, Starlight's Touch, and to a lesser extent Dazzle. If you were to program it as a mirrored effect rather than an empty duplicate, the heal from Starlight's Touch would stack, creating an INSANE heal. The same goes for Dazzle, the damage from two Dazzles would stack, and nobody wants that. It would also give him 2 (or 4) stacks of Bravado. This means he would have infinite cooldowns if he got all of his stacks off. I hope this helped.

I'm sure they can make a condition.

The ally's Bastion passive is already conditional to Taric. It lies dormant until Taric comes within a certain radius.

I'm going to need to test something to see how far this goes. Let's say Taric gets within range of his ally just enough for Bastion to take effect. Taric casts Dazzle (also casting from the ally) then immediately moves out of Bastion's effect range. Does dazzle still cast from the ally as well? If so then we can just add the following condition to the ally's passive Bastion:

Spells being cast from an ally's Bastion are cancelled if Taric and the affected ally leave the radius of Bastion.

That is unless this is intentional.. but that makes no sense to me in a "real" sense.

As it is: It can be weirdly useful. Let's say Taric uses bastion on a Pantheon who's about to drop in on a team fight across map, and just before Panth takes off, Taric casts his ult. If Pantheon carries the spell over, that's insane.

Yes they do continue to cast even if the link is broken. None of Taric's spells can be interrupted by CC, so the ally's can't be either. (I'm a Level 6 Taric main, if that helps)
