vel koz does 2100 true damage in 1.88 seconds.

but lets nerf rengar.

talk about no counter itemization. 2100 damage in 1.88 seconds. LMAO.

why buy magic penetration when your vel koz?. right the guy had zero mpen items.

but mages are weak because this is league boards and every assassin with 47% winrate is the most broken thing on the planet and so is yasuo.

vel koz been sitting at 54% winrate since MYMU (even after nerfs believe it or not). but no one bats an eye. who cares.

I've posted multipel threads about how stupid vel koz is and how impossible it is to itemize against him but meh who cares I really troll here and I there is nothing wrong with a champion doing 400-600 true damage at level 6. and close to 2.5k true damage late game. AS BURST. how dare I say a mage does enough true damage to delete tanks and squishies in under 2 seconds overpowered? hes immobile after all which means whatever else he does in his kit is completely acceptable but I can't get over the fact that every yasuo and riven can somehow dash . because you know they as well do 1400 true damage with one spell.

every league boarder in a nutshell.

Yes but you are forgetting the fact that Velkoz is immobile, 100% skillshot, and needs to land all of his skills otherwise he is fucked.

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

ofcourse. immobile. tank one shotting true damage allowed

this boards in a nutshell.

immobile = everything that comes after it is okay.

54% winrate. 54% for so many patches.

Adding on to what MastaChief said;

For a Vel Koz to do 2100 true damage, he would need to proc his passive (landing a qw or ew) onto enemy champs and then use an ultimate that can be interrupted at any given time. In addition, a Vel Koz is only able to do 2100 true damage once he completes a very expensive full AP build in the late game.

not only that, if you're smart you get your cc bot ready for a team fight

So Vel'coz is rewarded with a lot of damage for hitting his full combo on a researched target?

What is the problem? He's a combo mage.

Catastrop1 votes

This would be a good arguement, if his ult didn't apply the stacks as well. Instead of landing at least 2 skillshots, he lands one and presses R.

Ralanr2 votes

That I admit was not something I knew. However, was he just hit by at least 2 skill shots and ult or the full combo?

Catastrop1 votes

OP probablt could have been hit by a proper combo, but that doesn't change the fact that Vel can choose to fish for one skillshot, and then R press to win once he gets it. It's even worse in teamfights because he can do a fade away W, hit at least 2 people and proceed to turn the fight 3v5 right there there. Some combo mage this is, I'm 90% sure the people who can look at this guy say he's completely balanced have never played more than 5 games with him.

Like yeah he takes skill, but Riot cut that skill requirement down so much with this rework.

While you are correct that Vel can choose to fish for one skillshot and then ult to proc his passive, it's not as effective to do so if that Vel player is aiming to do tons of true damage.

If a Vel players uses Q or E, it would take his ultimate more than half of its duration to finally proc his passive; meaning that enemy champions hit by Vel's ultimate will only take 4 ticks of true damage (4 ticks of damage= 180+ 12.5% of his AP at lvl 1 to 320+ 12.5% of his AP at lvl 3) as well as the proc damage (33-169 based on lvl + 50% AP). If a Vel player can put 2 stacks on his opponents via W, then that goes up to 8 ticks; however, this is unlikely to occur as it is relatively easy to dodge the 2nd detonation of the W by just walking out of the ability.

That is why it's important for a Vel Koz player to land all of his abilities (Q to slow enemies down for the E knockup, which gives enough time for W to detonate twice and therefore allows Vel's passive to proc) before ulting so that Vel can maximize his damage output toward his opponents. This combo is what gives opponents time to react and do whatever they need to do in order to either escape his damage or to interrupt his ultimate. He doesn't just "R press to win" after landing a single skillshot onto enemy champions since his damage output potential would be significantly reduced; that damage wouldn't even come close to melting the enemy's front line tanks that Vel Koz is specifically designed to do. Unless Vel Koz is almost done with his build or his opponents doesn't react accordingly, his ultimate won't do enough damage to significantly hurt the enemy's front line by himself.

As for the skill requirement, Riot didn't really do anything at all to cut down the amount of skill that a player needs to perform well when playing as Vel Koz. Rather, I believe Riot increased the rewards that Vel Koz is able to gain if he can land his skill shots correctly.

  1. After the rework, Vel's passive base damage got reduced, but now scales with AP (+40%). So now if Vel Koz can get ahead via maintaining a good amount of cs or getting kills/assists, he can do a bit more damage if Vel can land his skill shots and proc his passive.
  2. Vel's Q gives him back 50% of the mana cost for every unit that is killed via Q. The skill it takes to land this ability is still there; it's just that Vel is rewarded with a way to sustain his mana if he can both land Q and kill enemy units.
  3. Both of Vel's W and E got nerfed: His W's AP ratios for each detonation is reduced by 10% approximately, while his E's AP ratio got reduced by 20%. The skill it takes to land both of these abilities is still there.
  4. They changed Vel's ult so that it no longer procs 5 stacks of his passive at a pretty fast rate; it now only procs 3 stacks at a slower rate. The base damage for Vel's ultimate also got nerfed by 50/100/150. Now to compensate his W, E, and R nerfs, Riot increased his AP ratios by 65%, up to +125% AP. Also, if enemies are researched before they get ulted by Vel Koz, they would take 2.5 seconds of true damage. The skill it takes to land this ability is still there. I don't know about you, but this clearly shows to me that Riot has reworked Vel Koz to be more orientated towards preserving his ultimate; waiting for the right moment until the enemies are researched so that he can truly "R press to win".

Given your concluding statement, I don't quite see how Riot has "cut that skill requirement down so much with this rework". He's just a combo mage who gets highly rewarded for maintaining a good position around his team and landing all of his skill shots accurately and safely.

Trust me, I say he's balanced and I have over 100k mastery points as mid lane Vel Koz. He is 100% reliant on his skill shots to land (not to mention an ultimate can be interrupted as well), immobile and squishy so that assassins/fighters can take him out with ease, and just like any other mages, has decent cooldowns to allow counterplay (W cooldown is 15 seconds per charge at max rank). Vel Koz is just like Brand, Twitch, or Vayne: give him enough peel and he can do an insane amount of damage; otherwise if Vel misses his knockup, he's practically just a stranded octopus on land.

I hope that you or anyone else who had read this to be helpful in the future when playing as or going against a Vel Koz in the future. Have a nice day [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

Yeah exactly, why should you have to avoid his abilities, save your CC or respect his ultimate when Vayne has to Q and auto. DERP.

rather nerf Rengar

nerfing rengar should be an obvious thing, he is so broken at the moment

but 2100 aoe true damage in 2 seconds is completely fine right? a mage one shotting tank and squishies alke while building no magic penetration is the way league should be designed. being a poke burst and aoe mage at the same time is also great while having no visible mana costs in lane.

Almost no ADC builds health so no, not really, and that damage is on top of the magic damage he does.

Terff3 votes

if a mage hits his full combo on an adc then the adc should die.

CatSith2 votes

he only does true damage to targets he has researched so no not 2100 aoe true damage.

why does he do so much more true damage to Darius to multiple people at once when Darius takes way longer to set up

buff darius 2016

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

darius is fine. he has clear weaksess. one being hes melee. the other being his passive requires set up in conjunction with ult that you mentoned. but lets have a mage that nukes you for 2100 TRUE DAMAGE from 1600 range away

Big Lincoln1 votes

Darius needs to do 2100 true damage

if you get enough ad a janna shield. 3 infernals. baron buff full ad runes. i think he can get close

The only issue I have with him is his early game, it seems like he flat out has no mana costs in lane.

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

he doesn't I played him. his mana costs are low. the Q refund makes you stay in lane forever and besides that his abilities have low mana costs compared to other mages.

Catastrop1 votes

People are dumb and can't recognize when something is way too strong. Vel'Koz was fine before the update and then they completely broke him. However he's balanced because "skillshots." Never mind the fact that R is strong enough on it's own to melt a team.

TheOvermind1 votes

You see unlike fiora and vayne , there is itemization against velkoz true damage, and it's the same against darius and chogath : Flat hp. It seems the norm that true damage has "no counter " But it does. Now % max hp true dmg is fucked up yes . This shit has no counter .
