I hate duelists

Nosnide··1 votes·806 views

The idea that a champion is designed to win 1v1 IN A SOLO LANE makes me scratch my head. Not sure why this is. Just because i am feeling extra salty about this ima run it down mid whenever i have to play my one trick Wukong into a duelist. Once i get banned ill just play DOTA, which i hear are a lot more balanced when it comes to runes/champions.

If you were drawn into League first, then that's probably a sign that you won't be able to play DOTA.

It's really damn hard.

HaIlMonitor2 votes

Its because they use a game system made in 2002, you have to play vs the game and your opponents lol.

Which duelist exactly was giving you a bad time?

Probably Fiora or Camille.

I hope it was Camille. I like stories of her slicing people. [slayer-pantheon-popcorn]

Actually, it was Darius. But he isnt the only duelist.

There is literally nothing i can do to win lane against him with a Wukong. I cannot out trade, i cannot get close, i get denied farm, i fall behind, i become somewhat useless later in the game bcs i was denied, meanwhile he "falls off" by nuking multiple ppl in a team fight. God he is at such a disadvantage in team fights, he only gets to nuke endlessly with true dmg.... Eventually he just dives me under tower and fucks me. Or just trolls me with his extra long range Q. Not to mention my Jger was AFK of course.

Darius is probably a hard matchup for a Wukong in the long run. He loves sustained fights, and Wukong likes quick cheesy trades. Darius has the tools to force you into one (namely his E). The thing with Darius is that you do not want to fight with him for long as his passive will end up stacking up.

Darius isn't a duelist. He's a lane bully melee top.

Duelists are champions who, as the game goes on, become increasingly hard to handle with a single person.

Darius can take most champions in the game early on one on one due to his power curve, but he's frankly mid-tier for a juggernaut in dueling as the game goes on.

In his class alone, these are closer to being "duelist" champions:

Nasus Trundle Shyvana Udyr Olaf Yorick

All can take Darius on as the game goes on if not behind. Some, like Yorick, Olaf, and perhaps Trundle, can beat Darius early on. Nasus in particular eventually becomes possibly the overall best duelist in the game.

Wukong is also, it must be said, a frankly rather bad laner. He's only really suitable for taking on squishy melee tops and a few ranged tops. Most others out-trade him and/or can beat him in all-ins.

I've gone 1v1 against a Nasus at 45 minutes as Taric and I came out with over half hp left when he was dead. When it comes to just face tank dueling, no one can beat a fighter Taric in a 1v1. The only champions who can beat him late game are ones who can consistently dodge his stun. None of the juggernauts can do that.

I doubt you did anything of the sort against any Nasus that had any notion of what was doing, especially if this was recent now that his E shreds armour.

Trundle and Yorick of the champions I listed would also beat him, if not the others. Olaf probably also beats him as well, being completely immune to the stun.

The particular Nasus fight was a while ago so it was before his E change. The reason Taric is so incredibly strong in duels is because he literally has double attack speed with no cooldowns if he can hit something. An enemy juggernaut is something to hit. The only way any of the champions you mentioned could beat him is if they built black cleaver and executioner's calling or thornmail with a last whisper. They would need to take 2-3 item slots specifically to counter Taric in order to beat him. Here is a clip I uploaded a while back that shows how insanely powerful Taric is if he can hit something. This was against Kennen and all I had for items was mana.

Taric is probably the strongest meta support in duels, particularly if he is able to get a top laner's gold in items.

Frankly, I'm not particularly impressed that you managed to beat a Kennen who fought you in melee ranged. An Olaf would have probably done the same, as would a Yorick. At that stage of the game Nasus couldn't however.

Most of those champions do in fact build black cleaver and can easily build a thornmail, so I don't really see a problem here. Taric meanwhile would be doing almost no damage to a properly built Nasus, for example. And Yorick is a juggernaut who can rather easily whittle Taric down without being in ranged of him, if not beat him outright with considerably better sustained damage.

Taric top is a cheese pick with a deceptively powerful counter to melee all-ins in the form of his spammable shield, stun, and heal, but he can't take on a duelist as the game goes on.

I'm actually curious how Nasus vs Taric would go with the new runes and Nasus's rework. Would you like to do a custom game and find out?

God no, I'd have to farm for like thirty or more minutes to get stacks up. If practice tool wasn't dogshit, had more things that can be altered (like stacking mechanics for champions), and the ability to go into the tool with another player I wouldn't mind, but I really don't feel like wasting all that time to find out if a duel I will almost certainly never have in League (I never really play Taric and rarely play Nasus) will go the way I think it will.

Generally, the point to a duelist is that they're very good in lane, where fights are mostly just duels, but not so much in the late game, where most fights are teamfights. If you're having trouble with duelists in general, it might help if you played more defensively in lane, and with Wukong in particular it helps to hold onto your W in cast your opponent tries to trade or go all in. If you're really getting frustrated still, try duoing with a jungler so that you can get guaranteed help early on. Getting so angry about fighting duelists that you start feeding intentionally is obviously unhealthy behavior, and if it happens this consistently I'd recommend you take a temporary break from League.

Nosnide1 votes

So let me get this straight, Wukong is a mid lane champion. Darius is a early game bully whom "falls off" later in the game.

So long as i hardly farm, because i get denied farm, and i cant win trades against darius, I can win the game? So i am malnourished for the mid game and darius has not problem farming, i can still win how? Darius wins the 1v1, the lane phase, and nukes abck to back for true dmg on every one late game. Not to mention a very strong front line throughout the entirety of the game. Where is his disadvantage? Mine is very apparent.

But you right, this isn't healthy, which is why i try to not play league much anymore. I only recently started playign again bcs someone mentioned it to me. Will probably stop playign again soon.

Well, ideally, you (or somebody else) would use a crowd control in the 5v5, Darius would get kited, and die to the ADC over 3 seconds.

From your perspective early on in the game, it can certainly feel like Darius has no disadvantage. But if you play Darius and actually try winning a team fight with him, these difficulties will become very apparent.

Dota has duelist on steroids and you have the added fact you lose gold because you died. I like Dota though.

Meep Man1 votes

I like Dota because unless your team just gets absolutely dominated, you can always come back and there is always a clear light that you can push towards when fighting an enemy, especially when you are trying to not die. There is always that "once I can get to this point, I can live long enough to push back the enemy" feel in Dota. In League, it really doesn't ever feel that way because the sheer strength of offensive itemization in League vs defensive itemization just makes games usually feel like it's not worth investing into Tanks for anything other than tons of crowd control. Durable bodies are honestly reserved for 3-4 champions in League and everyone else has to suck it up and dodge stuff or die.

Interesting point of view considering Dota 2 doesn't really have "tanks" and the ones that fill the role best are much squishier compared to League from what I've heard and experienced.

Not really. Dota2 champs are not squisher, besides things like full stack Cho, Dota2 heroes in general are tankier than League champs (there are also certain champs in Dota2 like Pudge and Centaur who can have ridiculous amount of HP of something like 10k or something by late game), or that at least their ToK (time to kill) are generally longer in Dota2.

I have literally pressed a single button (R) and killed solitary heroes with no counterplay as Juggernaut.

The time to kill might be higher, but the actual input from the player required to do it if anything seems lower.

Darius vs Wukong is Wukong Favored. You honestly might just be doing the lane wrong.

Nosnide1 votes

Alright legit willing to hear this one out. Where do i win?

HaIlMonitor1 votes

You can dodge most of his damage with your E, And block his ult with your W....

Woodakoodashooda1 votes

Phase Rush against enemies with slows will help you a ton in lane.

Also, wu is best played with ignite in top so that he can have an edge over duelists who bring tp, especially ones with sustain. And mute anyone who tells you to build tank wu because that's just garbage.

If you cant win lane then roam. Your turret will do you no favors. Better to lose it and make an impact elsewhere and force the mid game sooner than die repeatedly to that duelist and lose lane all the same.

Oh, and you'll hate Dota. Good luck one-tricking a hero in Dota, where just about every hero has hard counters in both comp picks, laning, and itemization.

I mean, in a 5v5 game with 3 lanes, there is bound to be at least a lane where it's laned by 1 person.

Unless there would be 0 duelists in a game's roster entirely (which is also a bad idea), the scenario you're looking for is impossible.
