Need an underrated Carry top laner that scales with your opponent's lack of knowledge and strategy?

Malicious Metal··61 votes·5,478 views

Look no further than Mordekaiser

But wait, there's more.

Slap a item 3078 unto it and you get a real soloQ menace that works exceptionally well in lower ranks.

Mordekaiser is a great pick against most Meta top laners like Irelia, Ekko, Yasuo and can basically dominate every Melee opponent if played correctly due to his great dueling, relentless pushing power, great trading and being able to scale extremely well into the late game.

There are only three items you need in order to start the pain train and just flatten the opposition

item 3116 ->item 3078 ->item 3053

Almost impossible to itemize against due to perfect mix of both physical and magic damage. Extremely high DPS with trinity force due to; 20% CDR, 40% AS and Sheen procs making your Q's way more effective. Did I mention Mordekaiser having the HIGHEST base AD? That makes for sheen procs ranging from 365 damage to 430 in Steraks Fury OUCH!

#Disclaimer This is totally not the promised Mordekaiser guide but I just wanted to update you on the new core build I crafted. Due to the recent Metashifts the older Gunblade and SV Drain build has been overshadowed by a more carry oriented build that taps into Morde's synergy with base AD items and maximizes his Q output. It's a perfect build to transform into an unstoppable melee carry with high durability, BPS (Burst per second) and scary team fighting. Dragon Clone just for making your Enemies shudder as they see it approach and munch their turrets.

Anyways, you might want to try this out. Just practice it in normals first before taking it into ranked, though it does work really well. Hell, I coached a friend on Mordekaiser and he climbed from Silver 5 all the way to Silver I, he'll probably even get gold!

While we're on the subject of underrated top laners that scale with your opponent's cluelessness, can I bring up Taric? I find that Taric, although he takes a good bit of skill to pick up in the top lane due to not being designed as a top laner, can actually be a really good pick. He can't carry like Mordekaiser, but can act as a good secondary support.

  • Works as a second support in case your team needs a second support because your "Support" is Annie/Lux/Veigar/Illaoi
  • %95 of the time, the enemy makes STUPID fucking decisions because they believe it's an "ez win"
  • Strong duelist, as well as a potent team fighter
  • Extremely deceptive damage
  • Fabulous
  • Tanky with good utility

Max E, Rush item 3025, Grab Grasp of the Undying, and weave your auto attacks and spells to deal the most damage possible. (Spell, auto, auto, repeat). Your passive is your main source of damage, so try and utilize that as much as possible. End build should look something like this: item 3025 item 3111 item 3742 item 3065 item 3068 item 3110. Grab some scaling armor seals/quints, scaling MR glyphs, and whatever marks you want. summoner 4/summoner 12, not many other spells work that well

Congratulations, you now know how to play Taric top

It's just a shame they removed his bonus healing from only healing himself and armor shred.

Nyanza9 votes

The new Taric is a mere shell of the beast old top lane taric used to be.

HayRoss9 votes

I will admit, I do prefer old Taric top lane, mostly due to the fact that people were somehow even MORE cocky around him, his rework allowed him to get some better utility and scales better into the late game

doombotMECHA2 votes

I once got an assist on a (old) poppy by running up to her and tanking her hits until my ahri and somebody else arrived to finish her off.

man most champs are league champs but old poppy was from friggin dota 2.

Champion Skin2 votes

Fervor of Battle could also work well thanks to the passive and the AA reset on E (At level 18 with max stacks fervor adds about as much damage as Taric passive just to every auto attack including the passive hits of course) Though Grasp of the Undying is probably much better in laning phase

And if you don't build much mana it probably is best to keep Q at rank 1? Rank 1 Q = 20 hp for 60 mana Rank 5 Q = 60 hp for 140 mana (scaling and cooldown is the same and you gain 3 times as much HP when on 3 stacks instead of spamming it for passive procs)

Blue Moon Wolf2 votes

Even after his update, I think Taric still works as a decent counter for Riven between his bonus armor, shield, heal, passive and stun. Don't know for sure, but it does seem like it.

HayRoss2 votes

You still have to aim your stun pretty well so Riven doesn't dash out of it, but other than that, yes

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

if she rushes lifesteal items its gonna be a problem for taric unless he builds some damage.

HayRoss1 votes

But for Taric, remember that armor IS damage

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

i dont think its enough. at least i would buy a grevious wounds item

Mylon Requiem1 votes

No Riven player with a brain "rushes lifesteal".

And that sounds counterintuitive against a champion that wants to stack armor against her either way.

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

best way to deal with a tank is to buy lifesteal to drain tank all the little damage that they do.

AFK Push3 votes

item 3068 is better the earlier you grab it, so I would build that where deadman or spirit visage is. Also, this build doesn't have much hp in it, so if the enemy team actually has a decent amount of ap/burst you're fucked. Lastly, this build has 50% cdr (wasted stats), I would replace frozen heart with item 3143 for sticking better, being tankier all around, and the bot lane support might be building item 3110 making the passive useless. I think CDR glyphs might be what he needs to get that full 40%cdr without wasting stats, or compromising the build.

Just food for thought, I'll try this out in the next few days though. Thanks mate.

{quoted}

That build was more my preference than anything. Most armor items do great for him, but really you can build whatever and it will work

I think CDR glyphs might be what he needs to get that full 40%cdr without wasting stats, or compromising the build.

At this point, the hardest thing about building CDR is not getting too much. Too many items give CDR right now

AFK Push1 votes

Just theory crafting to make the build the best it can possibly be, and I think the points I made would make it more "viable."

Taric is going to pretty much be an alternative pick to Malphite the tradeoff being hard engage for tons of utility. We have to make it the best we can to compete with that etc. Another thing to consider is who would do the most damage (even though the both build full tank).

CasterGilgamesh7 votes

what about Yorick ? he can carry i think i mean there is a full ad yorick montage https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hP_CXyJU3Pw

agbudar6 votes

so acording to that logic... my build should look like this then.

item 3009 item 3078 item 3116 item 3053 item 3053 item 3053 item 3053 sterraks gage base ad increase is not unique so it stacks.

all for that maximum sheen proc.

TequilaZombie1 votes

I must do it now. This sounds so fucking OP if one manages to pull it off.

Malicious Metal9 votes

the maximum sheen proc damage is 730 on Morde with just a tri force and five steraks

TequilaZombie2 votes

LOL Why am I'm not surprised you're the one bringing this fact to light?

Edit: I expected at least 1k. I'm sad now.

EDIT 2: As an Eve with boots, triforce and 4 SGs you can land 500 dmg procs every 2 secs. I like it.

Malicious Metal3 votes

I dunno... Totally not me trying the weirdest things in bot games when I'm bored ^^''

Braum top is underrated

my build item 3047 item 3068 item 3025 item 3748 item 3065 item 3083

Masteries scaling hp regen quints & yellows Hybridpen reds Scaling mr blues

Tank masteries with grasp of undying You will also want perseverance and runic armor and the 5% resistances mastery the rest is optional

Then cunning tree for extra biscuits becuase evryone likes to eat biscuits and ofc the meditate mastery because braum always has peace of mind and the dangerous game mastery for added in combat sustain

What does this build accomplish?

  1. Alot of aoe damage
  2. Alot of health
  3. Very strong dueling power
  4. Regen harder then Mundo

The awesome thing about braum is he has sick defense steroids and is good at protecting his team with lots of cc

The defense steroids along with grasp & your damagy tanky items allow you to duel anyone because you take little damage which you regen anyways and have pretty decent dps

AFK Push1 votes

Two things here, nobody regens harder than mundo full build, and shouldn't you build some AS to make the best out of your passive? Have you tried a build with item 3078 or item 3091 maybe even a item 3124 for all of those ap scalings and making the passive happen almost instantly. Just food for thought.

Spoofghoul1 votes

nah you don't need attackspeed

Braum has high enough base attackspeed

And Braum can regen harder then Mundo because his mustache is bigger

AFK Push1 votes

Jokes aside lol. Braums damage is mostly from autos and his passive. The passive stuns them and makes them take additional damage from his auto and Q, so why not maximize this damage by building AS to get as many autos and stuns as possible?

Spoofghoul1 votes

simple

the items i use for damage apply this damage in aoe

adding in more attackspeed makes you less tanky or makes your damage primarily singletarget

The build can still 1v1 most champions but is alot more of a threath in teamfights then an attackspeed build because of the aoe slows aoe burn and aoe attacks from hydra

AFK Push1 votes

Alrighty, I see your points and I looked up his max base AD at lvl 18 which is only 109.8 (pretty good but not that great compared to Skarner Chogath Darius etc.). Meaning that he wouldn't benefit too much from item 3078 as I thought. He would love the AS, health, mana, cdr, phage proc, but the sheen proc wouldn't be that good imo so item 3025 is probably a better item overall. I would still run some extra AS in runes and masteries on him though ;)

Sona x Rubick1 votes

you forgot to say that his ulti deals %hp damage if they stalk hp.

Malicious Metal8 votes

I also like to stalk HP

Just...don't tell the cops, alright?

AzureLobster1 votes

I tried playing as Morde a few times but I kept on getting kited :(

Malicious Metal11 votes

There are multiple ways to get over this inconvenience item 3116 Tagging someone with your ultimate provides a 10 second slow item 3078 5% MS as well as the phage passive item 3742 Go all Sonic on their asses

It does help to run MS quints like I do too. And if you like you can also go for Stormraiders Surge, though I personally prefer Strength of the Ages, personal preference. Hell, you can go Windspeakers blessing for better shields and heals.

Glaedonx2 votes

Highly considering giving him a try this weekend. Can you summarize your most standard rune page(s)?

Mordekaiser has ruined my feelings before.

Malicious Metal14 votes

Did he tell you your taste in music sucks?

Backup4now1 votes

How dare you.

You know this build starts falling off like a baby off a balcony as soon as it's bought and yet you advertise it to those that would believe anything you say due to your popularity.

Shame on you.

CasterGilgamesh1 votes

wait but this build looks like mords normal build anyway

Backup4now1 votes

Was normal when he was just reworked. Times change. AP-heavy builds are the only consistently viable way to go now, and they provide much more utility and much safer (but slightly less) damage.

World Ender3 votes

Except if you look at his match history you can see that he's had success with it.

RisenDarkKnight2 votes

Morde as a champion falls off pretty hard late game. No build can change that. Might as well capitalize on his strong early/mid game with a early spiking build rather than trying to build for the lategame where he's not the best anyway.

http://champion.gg/champion/Mordekaiser

look at winrate vs game time. Morde has a really high winrate in the first 25 mins and it steadily goes down.

If you want to play for late game dont' play morde.

If you want to win with Morde, make sure your build spikes by two items.

Backup4now1 votes

I exclusively build Morde for the lategame, because even going early stormraiders/ad runes for level 1-3 ultra-cheese falls off so god damn fast.

See my match history and builds for examples. I am a D5 morde jungle main, and he is by far weakest early on ESPECIALLY in the side lanes; if you go with the build listed in the OP and you DONT do well early, you lose. Simple as that.

With a lategame build, killing any squishy takes q1, e, w. A tank dies in a little over a full rotation. Killing an ADC is as easy as pressing R (yes, it does oneshot), but not if you build a fucking triforce. About the two-item powerspike, rylais into liandries or ludens, with sorc boots is just as strong of a powerspike.

Now, I know the whole point of the thread is for low elo, and the early cheese you can pull off can make winning early consistent, but you can only go so far until people learn to just fucking gank you in the top lane and you're giga-screwed because you can never win against the common junglers, or learn to not let you steamroll because you have 500 gold ahead of your opponent.

Also, god forbid you face a champion that actually beats morde, like Darius.

Malicious Metal4 votes

Well, I got DIamond myself using Morde, usually top lane though I played him Jungle secondary.

And I personally prefer a Juggernaut build because let's face it, all the damage in the world won't mean anything the moment you get hard CC'd.

Though I agree, Mordekaiser got a ton of viable builds, that's the cool thing about him^^

Great dueling, relentless pushing, scales well into lategame, hard to itemize against. Sounds like Jax to me

It can't solo baron, it doesn't deal enough damage.

It can certainly Tank it, though.
