PSA: I'd rather play with a good toxic player in Ranked, than a polite bad player.

Indominus Blade··14 votes·2,502 views

I think that the casual players are spamming the boards too much with their "lets all be friends" nonsense and crusade against "toxicity", funny how they act toxic towards anyone they consider toxic.

League of Legends ranked solo que is a competitive environment, the number 1 objective is winning. I don't care if I am playing with a racist, with a mass murderer, with an alien or with a psychopath. I don't care if you are male or female, I don't care if you are nice or rude, I don't care if you are polite or toxic, you can insult me all you want, I will just mute you like any sane and intelligent person would. THE ONLY THING THAT I CARE ABOUT AND THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS, IS HOW GOOD YOU ARE AT PLAYING THE GAME.

Winning is the objective, I am not here to be your friend, I am not here to help you improve, I am here to win. If you play good, if you are carry the game or help with carrying, then you are a GOOD and VALUABLE team mate.

Casuals and Lyte are clueless, stop trying to enforce your idiotic morality on others. Go enforce it in normal games or fun game modes, but keep it out of my high elo ranked games.

you can block someone's negative chat, but you can't block someone's negative gameplay skills

I have yet to see a player who was simultaneously carrying and toxic. If I'm carrying then I have no time to type other than to make calls. If I'm getting stomped I'm looking at a gray screen all the time and will have plenty of time to be toxic.

A carry champion is 10/0, his own support makes a huge mistake in lets say a 2v3, misses his spells and doesn't ult, the 10/0 ends up getting 1 kill and dying, instead of a clean 3 kills. He then says the following "Why didn't you ult, useless cancerous trash, l2p". This would be considered toxic. I've seen a lot of good players who are also toxic, especially at high elo.

BluePolarizer1 votes

I do not do anything that would reduce my chances of winning.

Since I'm serious about winning, I just say nothing, because on the off chance that causes my ally to AFK or troll (as has happened to me before, even though I say nothing) I'm the one losing LP while my ally obviously doesn't care. So why risk it? Just control your emotions like in the real world.

I'm just saying, in my experience, those who are doing bad are usually the ones who are raging and spamming "gg ff 20" and surrender votes. I have rarely seen someone who was 10-0 spam surrender votes.

What is high elo to you? I've been up and down plat for a while and even in plat 1 in NA when I was playing with diamonds during the cinderhulk meta, most people just say nothing.

Indominus Blade1 votes

You might do that, other players might not. Saying such a thing might help that player calm down and reassert his confidence, that he died because of the supports failure and that he will still dominate (I have such diamond+ elo players in my friendlist and also diamond+ elo players who have your mentality to never say anything negative). Different players have different mentalities and approach to the game. Why are you telling me to control my emotions? I don't even use the chat during the game to comment on my team mates because I play with the mentality that my team are all subhuman garbage who don't deserve my advice or opinion, I must carry or I will probably lose. I only use it for short commands like: "bait baron" + assist ping in the brush I want the team to gather in, or "4 man baron, I split bot". After the game, I always say gg wp + honored to a good team mate who played well, but during the game I don't trust my team, I trust myself. This is my mentality for solo q. Team 5v5 is a different story and a much more pleasant experience.

low elo = bronze, silver, gold. decent elo = platinum. high elo = diamond+

Riot balances the game based on stats from platinum and diamond+.

Every one of your deaths is your own fault though. When you engage in a fight your out weighing your survival on theirs; Not to mention the amount of assists that can be given to the enemy. the fact being your a threat and your worth money, you aren't reliant on team mates as much as they are on you. id rather have a person though that would encourage then discourage because respecting your opponent and showing honor will encourage them in more games where someone who discourages belittles others not realizing that the future league of legend players are at stake it also causes a mental illness that creates anger torwards others in the real world and it feeds on itself and in the chess community any form of disrespect is highly frowned on and can ruin any career in proffesional play not only that but smurfs are pretty impossible as is cheatting because its only you vs the other player. perhaps the person i played wasn't as good as me, but its my job to show him what he could of done which improves his game play but rehearses my own knowledge for future games to come. tldr id rather be a role model then a jerk xD Poppy

One should never excuse poor behavior for skills. Ever. It is more harmful in ways people do not consider.

Those are the players with the most kills during a loss. They had most kills so everyone else sucked too hard for them to carry, regardless of the actual circumstances.

Those are the guys who aren't serious about winning the game. They may be serious about their ego or about their KDA, but not winning the game.

I don't think people realize what the mute button does.

Mute a toxic good player and you just have a good player

Mute a nice bad player and you just have a bad player

PiVoRx3 votes

I agree with this.

I feel like the whole war against toxicity is just imaginary shit caused by kiddos reporting each other because they lost a game.

If you really dont like what you read in chat then /mute all OR UNINSTALL LOL and deal with it.

I dont understand how somebody can be offended by some random kiddo flaming through a video game, im playing competitive games since 10 years and only in LoL people make it such a big deal.

Maybe cause its a way to punish someone for a lost match? I lose a game i report everyone for flame so maybe stupid Riot bans them.

What a parody.

Toxic behavior breeds more toxic behavior.

Toxic players don't lose or win more games. That "Did You Know" factoid in the loading screen is complete fluff. The reason most people believe it is because the logical conclusion is that you getting into a keyboard war with someone on your team takes focus away from the game. Some can cope with that, some can't.

What does happen is when you piss someone off by flaming them, they're going to take it out on you and others around them. That makes the game uncomfortable for everyone. A lot of people don't want to stop and mute you, they want to stop and read you to filth.

I don't think Riot is asking a lot when they tell you to keep your mouth shut and stop throwing a manchild fit in all chat.

I don't have enough experience with Toxic Players to really weigh in on this, but I think an issue with just muting people is that you lose a lot of communication. Supports and ADCs are the biggest example of people who need to keep in contact when possible, but also the biggest example of the problem of Toxic Players: Both only perform at half value if they can't co-ordinate and muting prevents that co-ordination in most cases. Also, Four Pings are not enough to say 'Go In' or 'They have Summoners' or even 'It's Warded'

Also for the people that don't mute, you shouldn't come home from a hard day of work, log on League to have fun, and then have to deal with a toxic team member the whole game. 4v6 isn't just if there's a Mordekaiser on the enemy team, it's also when you have to work with (or against) a Toxic Teammate.

Indominus Blade2 votes

Communication is highly overrated in solo Q, the pings are more than enough. The higher elo you get, the less people use the chat to communicate because they have a better understanding of the game, their role and the pings. When a player is toxic and refuses to work as a team, what is the difference between muting him and not muting him? If you try to talk to him you are wasting time, just mute him and play with the rest of the team as 4, let the negative player do his own thing.

Nameless Voice2 votes

But toxic players lose games.

It's just common sense that someone who is focused on flaming others isn't focused on playing the game to the best of their ability, and if they bait the person that they're flaming into responding, then they are no longer fully focused on the game either.

And that's not even counting the fact that people in general play worse when they are being flamed or when the whole team is too busy flaming.

If you have a bad player on your team, you can often carry them, or your team can win with better teamwork.

However, if you have a toxic player in your team, they will often decide that the game is lost if the enemy take a slight advantage, and will intentionally lose the game (either by focusing on flaming, by refusing to try, or by going AFK or trolling because they are sure the game is lost so try to make it end faster.)

Except one actually gets you into trouble, and the other doesn't.

One will be willing to improve and is trying to win, the other will troll and make you purposely lose if some idiot doesn't agree with him.

You can carry bad players, but you can't carry people who are purposely trying to lose.

A toxic player will always be toxic.

A bad player can improve.

So you'd rather have a player that argues with the team, disses players on the team, and is just always saying negative stuff to the enemy and your team over a player that communicates politely, just wants to do the best he can but happens to be having a bad game but is also willing to improve and work on being better?

I'm sorry, i'd rather have the polite bad player. Atleast they aren't negative and can actually work on improving.

That's nonsense on both counts.

The problem with a term like "toxic" is that it can mean just about anything and be applied to anyone.

Most of the people who receive punishments aren't really "toxic" or disruptive to gameplay, and they can just as easily learn to stop as a bad player can "get better".

If you believe Riot's statistics, the vast majority of players who are punished "reform", where if you look at most "bad" players, they have hundred/thousands of game and don't improve.

So if anything, the opposite is true.

This is where I disagree. I agreed with a lot of your post, being unbiased and judging on skill, etc. But, between people who are usually casuals could play ranked seriously a few times, and people who ONLY soloq, the only difference between Casuals and Hardcore ranked players other than one being way too toxic to mistakes than the other, is the simple fact that casuals have less ranked games played.

Having someone scream at you for giving first blood, cursing you out, being racist/homophobic/sexist, can really ruin someone's morale that game and put them on tilt. Muting them doesn't get rid of what was already said.

Example: A man rapes and murders a woman, her body is found on the sidewalk. You see the body and call the police, and once they get there they ease you away. Doesn't fix what you saw, but keeps you from seeing it possibly get worse/affect you even more.

Tl;dr, toxicity, while it can be further prevented, isn't something enjoyable to experience even for 1 second, and can put people on tilt etc and make them play worse.

Sasogwa1 votes

Kinda necroed, but well, I'd rather play 10000 times with the nice guy that sucks, because he isn't a dick and the game doesn't feel bad. It's a game, we're here to have fun, not to win at all costs. I've had much more fun in some ARAMs we chose not to end on purpose and finally lost than tons of games I won and were stomps. The best games are close games with nice people ; when I smurfed the games that were hard to carry but people were nice despite being bad were among the best games I ever had. Challenge, nice people, great games.

It is truly sad that people are becoming toxic bitches because they desperately want to win to prove I don't know what, and the ultimate goal is not even having fun anymore. Truly sad. And well sometimes, I feel bad because I tryharded too much in some games. But it's a thing that just is how it is. When people figure out the best way to win, they put aside fun to focus on winning over having fun (a good example would be hearthstone as well, spamming boring metagame decks in ladder ResidentSleeper).
