Diamond+ opinion: Don't nerf Veigar W, nerf his Q + R.

Indominus Blade··14 votes·932 views

Don't nerf the only thing that takes somewhat skill on Veigar.

Nerf his Q: travel speed too fast/damage too high. Nerf his R: ridicoules damage, especially vs AP champions. Remove the enemy AP scaling or reduce it significantly to 30% enemy AP scaling. Or Keep the scaling, but make it a skillshot.

Let him have strong W, nerf his Q and R.

That's not nearly enough since it was a really situational buff.

They need to drop his Q range to the point where he can actually be denied farm again, and they need to entirely rework his ultimate.

They should have never touched Veigar to begin with. He was absolutely fine in S4.

Fine, but unable to be buffed because of the nature of his kit. If he had ever become popular they would have had to nerf him, and they couldn't buff him without giving him major changes like the ones they did. His old kit wasn't even remotely healthy. His new one isn't either, but it's not as bad.

I mean, I could see why they did it. Before they fixed its delay, you could escape the E+W combo if you were fast and had some tenacity. But now, even with 35% reduction from Tenacity, he's guaranteed a free W if he successfully stuns (W takes 1.25 sec, stun is 1.5-2.5 sec by level, with tenacity that's 0.975-1.625 sec of stun). And of course, carries don't usually build tenacity, so they will always take the free W if stunned.

Still, it doesn't seem to address the main problems.

I think he is relatively balanced. He can snowball a game out of control if allowed to farm freely and get early kills, but that is the same with any burst mage or assassin. He pretty much is just an assassin with little mobility. Nobody would be considering nerfing veiger if they had never seen him used so effectively at Worlds and became the flavor of the month.

The difference being that it's not "if he's allowed to farm freely". He will farm freely if he's competent, because with 950 range on his Q it's essentially impossible to actually prevent him from farming.

Man, we think the same thing: having an aoe stun, making his r a skillshot should be ok

Why? If they nerf Veigar's W they essentially nerf his damage by 0 since you have to try and get hit with it lol.

I personally would just reduce the enemy AP scaling on his ult to 50% and go from there.

Just because his W is now possible to hit on a non-CCed enemy and the fast that he doesn't have to Kill Secure anymore in order to gain AP doesn't mean Veigar is OP. Hell, it doesn't even make him good. His laning phase is still extremely weak, he has trouble against Banshee's Veil, Tahm Kench and Kalista (if he ults support for whatever reason). Zhonya's Hourglass is a soft counter.

I think you should just stop packing full AP on your immobile mids and learn to dodge skillshots.

Yep, let me just dodge the targeted instant kill nuke.

And let me just not build AP on Orianna, because she definitely has an alternative to building ap that isn't "be completely fucking useless".

You mean buying Athene's + Mercs instead of Morello's + Sorc's? Obviously players should be able to blindly follow the same build every game and succeed, making people think is toxic.

You can dodge his entire kit except ult. Even if you are not building any defensive items Veigar will need to Q-R you which means that if he misses Q (or rather you dodge it) he is open to counterplay and considering how squishy and immobile he is, he is dead.

Orianna can go with Athene+Merc+Abyssal Scepter and have meaningful damage. This build might force Veigar to build early Void Staff which postpones the Deathcap. The only mage that can blindly build AP and get away with it is LeBlanc. But even then if Veigar has good reactions she will instantly die every single fight.
