I've played around 2000 hours worth of League of Legends, and I'm still no better than a Silver

Espurr VI··3 votes·4,312 views

Or even Bronze. Season 2 I was Silver Season 3 I was Bronze Season 4 I was Silver Season 5 Still Silver And I mind as well put Season 6 as Silver because I can't fucking understand how I can get any better. I've watched pro players. I've seen Sp4zie, Dunkey, Faker, Shaclone, Uberdanger, and several other players that are pretty good at the game, and I can't figure out how to get better! Every time I see them win lane, or get a kill, it literally just looks like they got lucky. I seriously do not understand what I'm doing wrong. I buy wards almost every time I back. I have a level 5 champion in EVERY role, some I even have more then just 1. I have a very good understanding of the game, according to my formerly platinum friend. I'm at my wits end. That platinum friend I have says I'm easily gold if not higher material. I'm starting to think he's wrong.

That's your problem.

Have you tried becoming a one trick pony to maximize your win rate until you get to a good spot?

Espurr VI1 votes

I've "tried" to become a one trick pony. I got frustrated because the champions I tried to play didn't seem to fit, or I got bored with them, so I decided to try a different champion.

Dynikus1 votes

try out a bunch of champions in normals or even custom bot games if you want and see who clicks.

Espurr VI1 votes

Already did that. I've played all the champions I own at least 2 times. When I click with some of them and keep playing, they stop clicking after about 10 games. The only champion I still click with is Shyvana, which has had about 100-200 games, and now she's no longer clicking either.

2000 hours of bad practice is still not a substitute for 1 hour of good practice

You should try specializing. It doesn't have to be a SINGLE champ or even a SINGLE role, but it needs some kind of direction. Helps you learn and improve much more efficiently.

Do you have a certain "thing" that you are better at than everything else? Look for it, and main champs that can do the job. If it's limited to even just 3 champs, go for it. Chances are, you will get much better at the game faster.

Also, looking at "pros" and higher level players don't necessarily help you improve, let alone guides. I had nearly zero sources of "good" Lulu support advice, had to craft nearly everything (builds, skill level orders, etc) on my own, and I'm well on my way to plat this season in which I started the game as a lowly silver in season 3.

Fine, maybe whatever advice I gave you sounds like shit, but do consider specializing to some extent. Helps you learn and improve more quickly.

From what it sounds like, you have a fixed mindset. It takes more than grinding, watching steamers, reading "pro"/Korean guides. You have to go in and learn the inner mechanics of the game. You gotta understand why some builds work in some cases than others. You need to be able to under stand the micro mechanics of the champions you play.

Gotta be able to think for yourself first and foremost. Just agreeing with what's meta and who counters who is not the way to get better than silver. There are key differences between ranks even though they may not seem apparent in some cases.

I do think for myself. I usually just look at the guides and use them as a base, changing the guide to fit how I prefer to play. If I can't find any guides that make sense to me, I just use my own intuition.

Judging from your match history, your champion pool is all over the place. Just stick to 1-2 champions and play them. The more you play a single champion the better off you will be.

Dynikus1 votes

as they both said, try focusing more on a few champs. and following the meta so long as you can play some of the champions in the meta well isn't a bad idea.

same man. although i really havent been trying to improve too much, just messing around in normals suits me best

You may have ADD and cannot stick to one or two champs. See your doctor for a prescription for your illness.

Hey I have at least 3000 hours across 3 accounts.

I still suck..

Season 4: Silver 5 Season 5: Bronze 3 Season 6: Bronze 1

Don't feel bad. It's the way we were wired. Some people plateau. You can do the best in the match and still lose. #BrokenHearted Honestly, lately I have seen plats and golds who were heavily boosted. I can beat maybe a gold player at most. After that it's fuck or be fucked. But, 1/4 of my hours are in custom games LMAO You can try taking performance enhancers haha.

Stop playing so many champions and roles. Pick one role to main and play it every game. Youll learn more by being able to focus on one role and one lane every game. Especially focus on specific champions so you know exactly how to maximize your potential with them.

If you cant do that, then youre bronze/silver.

Zone of Endless1 votes

Try and focus on a single role if you can. It's the best and fastest way you will climb. Fill only if you have to. You will learn a lot more from playing one role and some of those knowledge can rub off into other roles which make you play them more effectively. Of course you need to have good mechanical skill too if you really want to climb.

I've spent just shy of 2.5 years of time in game over 6 seasons across 16 accounts according to the wasted on lol site.

I'm still some diamond scrub who struggles in low elo on champions that aren't my go tos. When I try to play Lee Sin against bronze or silver talent... I wind up being the one who looks like a bronzie.

Personally, I think all of the people telling you to focus on one or two champions are spouting massive amounts of horseshit. It can help if you don't have the mental capacity to learn multiple champions, but I value having a high champion pool. I'm only Platinum though, so who knows. That could be why. Anyway, instead of learning one or two champs, just focus on one or two ROLES. Each role has a massive learning curve to get to mastery of that role. The nuances of each are very specific, and it may help you to specialize in that way without limiting your champ pool.

One skill applicable to every lane is trading. Good players don't get kills by luck, they get kills from trades and timely engages based around the mechanics of trading. Be mindful of cooldowns and ranges, and what damage your champ and the enemy champ can put out and trade based on that. Punish predictable behavior so you force the enemy to adapt or take damage. After you've successfully traded and the enemy is weaker, you can either move into a position of denying to make them really weak, or find an opening to engage on them, or simply keep attempting to poke them down if you're that kind of champion.

Also buying wards is absolutely useless if you're not watching the minimap and getting helpful information from it. If you're not watching the minimap, either stop buying wards or start looking at the minimap. Otherwise you're just wasting gold and feeding the enemy gold.

Oh and half of the Youtubers you mentioned make content for entertainment, which is often absolutely, 100% not fucking helpful to learn from. I don't know why in hell you're trying to analyse Uberdanger's content for skill acquisition, but it's not a good idea. If you think his stuff is entertaining, that's cool. It's not useful to learn from. Even from the "educational" League Youtubers, whatever they're doing is probably going to help you less with regards to improving than simply having more experience and, above all, THINKING ABOUT WHY YOU LOST OR WON. Did your team make a good call to rotate to baron after seeing the enemy ADC bot? Did you forget to help your carries in a teamfight as a tank? Did you position too far forward as a squishy carry? Did you get caught alone too much? Did you lose or win lane? Thinking about these sorts of things analytically will help you identify why you're winning/losing, and as an extension, your win conditions as a player and with the champs you choose to play.

I need to go to work in 30, so that's all for now. I might check back in if I think of something else both useful and generally applicable.

Good luck, bud.

S1 Gold somewhere, barely played rank. S2 barely played rank got to silver 1 and stopped (30-40 games tops). S3 same story got to gold in a week and stopped playing. S4 didn't play. S5 Played a little got to gold in less than 100 games, quit playing.

I have more than a couple thousand hours in this game, and i've played dota since before it was even conceived as dota from way back. Quite frankly it's goes along understanding the weaknesses and strengths of the champion you play, having amazing map awareness to the point where you know exactly where someone will be. Understanding timings in the game, understanding how fast a jungler can clear a jungle, depending on the jungler type etc.. knowing critical time frames in the game where you will expect a gank or dragon setup etc...

I'm necroing this thread, just out of interest. Watching streamers and high end play allows you to think what is most optimal in the situations they are in and what items work best at early and mid game or how they build etc... It also lets you see some weird plays you may have not expected out of a champ, specially if you're fairly new to a champion. Fine tuning your play on a champion with different sets of runepage builds etc... varies alot. Gamestyle varies alot.

If it was that easy for everyone to climb the ranks by sheer volume of games played (which in fact kind of works that way the way the MMR averages out), everyone would be in diamond no problem. I'm too old to really try to rank and put the time in to climb. The one season I actually played more than 100 games I got to G1 and played a few games there where I encountered true ELO hell within g1 through PLat 5-3. Most people I play with say I play well above my current rank. I personally don't see it as how i'm ranked or what color i'm being put into. I play the game for fun and I'm confident of my skills, I don't need the game to tell me where I should be. I know if I put the time and I had the patience to sit through couple hundred game of toxic wasteland in ranked I could push much further. Truth is, I don't stay interested in this game for that long, I don't know how people play ranked season for an entire year and not get tired of it, I can barely do a week or two and I'm done.

Anyways, my suggestion to you is to start thinking above and beyond what people do, limit your play on a few champions and really really get to learn them to the point where everything is just muscle memory. I can play every champ in the game definitely on an average level, but there's a few champs less than probably 15 that I can play really really well, that I know every little trick in the book for them and I know how fast their animation speed is, how much damage they do to a minion or to a champion etc....

I'd love to a see an update on how you have fared this last year, I hope you've become a little more confident in your gameplay.

Stop thinking, "because everyone said this was good, I'm going to X." Instead, think, "the situation looks like Z, So instead of X, I'm going to Y." Seriously, fuck whatever those pros are doing. Pro meta could not possibly be more different from low elo soloq. Intently learn a few champs. Look up soloqueue guides on how to play them. Don't copy the guide though, test ALL the guides in normals. Multiple times. Find what works best for your playstyle, and what is most efficient.

Don't think, "what would faker do in his game right now?"

Think "what do I need to do to get to their nexus?"

Also, understanding the game will do nothing if you don't deeply understand your champ.

Try Master Yi Silenceee's build jungle, it will not improve you as a player but atleast you will get gold.

Carnivore1 votes

Personally all I can say is try your best to get exceptionally well at two or three champions in two roles, if I had to recommend roles i'd say mid and jungle since they tend to be the two roles that can impact every lane in the game, on top of that note another thing I should note is that perhaps you should try "meta" champions since most can be used easier and reach an effective level rather than a champion that is non-meta and has trouble reaching that level of efficiency with the same effort ex: (vlad, annie, hecarim, jhin, ashe, sona, soraka, darius etc.) versus (lee sin, nidalee, varus, gnar, tahm, xerath etc.) the last thing I should note is gold advantage and objective control, work on getting high creep scores every game and work on getting those dragons, rift, baron, towers, don't be afraid to shot call and learn from your mistakes! (ps, keep the mind set positive!)
