Half the effect of Redemption if the user is alive

Would be my first suggestions I was to be asked how to make the item less of an ubiquitous first pick.

After all, the item is about redeeming your sacrifice (death) into something worthwhile.

If this would be the case, I'd suggest a change in its charge up. Feels like having its current charge rate for half of its current heal would be a bit much.

The item is just too strong in general. Its design is pretty toxic too, it'll always be too strong or too weak, not to mention it already gives the buyer stats. It strays just a little to close to "worthy of being removed from the game" territory

Whomever takes Redemption as a first item isn't doing much correct in the rest of their game, I'd wager, whether it be a mid, top, jungler, or support. And besides, an item that predicates its usefulness on the user dying first -- especially for a telegraphed AoE heal that's on a 1:30 cooldown -- isn't going to be considered a good item.
