Suggested New Year's Resolutions for Riot Games

Mira Arya Enthe··23 votes·2,055 views

According to the communities more serious and reasonable suggestions:

1: Buff towers, make getting dove more defensible and pushing them less easy.

2: Lower jungle exp, but of course not enough to put the jungler in the dog house. Keep them more even with laners or we are just going back to S2.

3: Make Pantheon's Q a skillshot, or some other viable solution to prevent it from just being a point and click source of damage every couple seconds like any adc in the game.

4: Buff Doran's shield, give melees, especially top laner melees, an opportunity to trade with ranged champions.

5: Fix minion aggro and minion blocking, it punishes melees far too hard and blocking in particular is just very annoying. Not offering specific solutions.

6: Statikk Shyvana Skin Give the top half of the map some actual meaning and valuable. It would be nice to see the island getting some vacationers from bot lane once and awhile. Either make rift herald valuable or change what happens there entirely.

7: Fix chicken camp and/or improve jungle clearing for non-meta junglers. I miss seeing champions like Kindred, Fiddlesticks and off meta junglers like Leona jungle or Ashe Vayne jungle. I'd like to see clears possible.

8: Fix "?" Ping to say "MIA" instead so it isn't used for toxic purposes. Or at least... we hope it isn't.

9: Add warnings on the champion select if: Jungler doesn't have smite, you are about to ban a teammates pick, and an alert that says directly "YOU WERE AUTOFILLED!" as apparently some people don't realize it until they lock in... somehow.

10: Remove or rework autofill. The system is full of bugs and unfair situations, like getting autofilled after a queue dodge where you had your desired role. The system to begin with is a big anti-fun middle finger to people who play videogames to enjoy themselves, and not pretending it is a career. This system needs to be reworked or removed.

11: Reduce the amount of point and click, assured damage in the game. The amount of abilities that can do 20-100% of your HP bar in one click is too damn high, especially if it has any form of mobility, utility or CC attached to said ability. Few things are more frustrating than having absolutely no way to avoid getting right clicked or smart cast on for your entire HP bar or to suddenly be unable to move because Ryze clicked on you.

12: Start working on no counterplay, not option champions. Let's face it, you can buff and buff and buff champions like Garen, Mordekaiser, Skarner and even my beloved Shyvana through the roof. But as long as these champions are right click lords they will either A: Have too much power in low tiers where people rely on counterplay over strategy, builds and positioning. B: Be trash in top tiers where everyone knows how to play around their limited options. C: Both of the above.

13: Happy new year Riot, sorry if we complain a lot ;P

Make pantheons q a skillshot and buff him. You forgot the buff.

Ignite Pantheon is being played a lot and it has insane lane pressure. Nerf that a bit and buff his later game and sure?

Notice how shyvana also presses buttons too

They said that though...

People think towers are weak in every aspect and not just defensively. They added the stacking buff so taking two tower shots is enough to almost kill you. The only thing towers need honestly is defense stats and maybe some bonus armor pen.

Lowering jungle xp is a bad idea because half the jungle roster can barely clear as it is. They need to stop beating around the bush and nerf the problem champions they keep putting off. Most junglers fall two levels behind as it is because lee sin and hecarim clear insanely fast.

To be honest, the turret buff you proposed would make Taric rise in popularity( at least in lower elos), and rotating turret aggro is still a thing, not to mention invulnerability frames and abilities that just simply reset the aggro when used (fizz, zed, tahm feast).

Actually I can't really think of anything, that would help with the turrets, even making it so invulnerability frames don't reset aggro has downsides on the defending side, while having the turret to oneshot people would not make sense either.

Turrets don't need buffs. Turret diving has already become much harder throughout the seasons. Turrets aren't there to do the job for you. I'd rather not have turrets buffed to the point where you can afk under your turret and be safe. That takes away interesting early game fights. Turrets already do a good job protecting people from dives early game, but they aren't there to prevent them. Buffing them to stop tower dives would turn early game into a boring farm fest where nobody tries to kill each other. In addition, Assassins would be even more useless because mages with strong waveclear would become even stronger to deal with the stronger turrets.

If a Pantheon is spamming spears every few seconds, he's not going to have much mana for actual trades.

But currently, according to 100% of the times i post about Pantheon, he's fine.

Pantheon is a champ you WANT to snowball with, because if you don't he's going to become nothing but a stun bot. A strong early game is fair trade for a weaker late game.

The point and click spear is part of Panth's identity in my opinion.

If they were to change anything about Panth, I'd say finally change the scaling on his stun, and ult. But don't give it a very strong ad scaling.

Changing Pantheon's lane bully ability into a skillshot would remove the lane bullying he's known for. While champs like Renekton and ranged top laners against melee top laners can do a much better job at this, Pantheon isn't up there with their reliability in late game.

I think his spear is fine its just so damn strong. Like if you aren't playing with a champ that is tank 1 spear will do at least a quarter of your health. Ok yes he falls off late but on the flip side you also shut down the enemy laner (maybe, but you get the point). Correct me if I'm wrong?

His Q's targeted poke will likely be completely removed in his rework. Shen had it removed in his, and his Q was less toxic then Pantheons.

The missing ping can't say "MIA" because that's pretty much an NA only thing. On EU we say "SS" (miSSing) instead, and sometimes people will complain that you didn't call missing if you say "mia" instead of "SS". It has to be some kind of symbol so it's readable no matter the preference of call-outs, or it has to say the entire word "Missing!" (obviously translated depending on client language).

Meanwhile in NA "SS" is Summoners Spells, like if the ad burns flash and heal they'll say "bot no ss."

Garen has counterplay, stop with this terrible lie.

1: Buff towers, make getting dove more defensible and pushing them less easy.

I would rather not go back to season 4 where waveclear mages just stalled the game forever. What should be introduced instead are items and champions that interact directly with allied turrets for fortification. Don't just throw stats onto the turret and expect things to be better.

Thales2252 votes

mmmm I mean all you can really do to counterplay Garen is is to kite him and bait his q... his kit is so simple lmao. Not that I'm complaining.

Arakadia1 votes

As a melee how does one counter Garen?

Big Lincoln1 votes

Q has a long windup before the attack actually lands; if your CC is melee range only then you can still CC him in the animation and keep him stunned/snared/etc during the silence, which removes a lot of his trade potential. Even hitting him with a slow means he won't land more than 1 or 2 ticks of his E before you outrun him.

Garen has no answer to disengage. Pushing him away means his only option is to run at you or leave the fight and wait for his cooldowns. He's easy to kite, too, for the same reason; he can't close the gap easily, and he telegraphs his approach by running straight for you; back up if you can't win the trade. He can't actually force you to fight like Darius or anyone with a gap closer.

You have plenty of opportunity to counterplay him.

Not all top laner's have hard CC and fewer top laners can use it every time he Q's. The rest of this paragraph only applies to ranged champions, melee's cant do this. Especially with cleaver and his Q, its hard to escape him as a melee due to the ms buffs and silence. Unless your some hyper mobile champion like Fiora. But counterpick isn't counterplay.

This is the ONLY way to counterplay him. I can try to CC him during ult, but no that won't help because either the animation has started and it will hit or he will just recast it right after. I can try to even kill him during ult, but I have to be extremely quick or else the spell will still go.

Oh, and forget about trying to trade with him. He can just soak xp and heal with his passive if he gets low.

Finally, you can't even counter build him. His E's armor shred and Cleaver's armor shred will reduce the effectivness of your armor by so much its not even funny. And if you did build enough armor, he has true damage anyways. And you better not build too much HP or he'll still just execute you.

Big Lincoln1 votes

He is a melee champion with no way to extend his range and no means to quickly close the gap. Asking to have even more counterplay than what he already has is absurd. Not every champion needs a highly telegaphed delayed skillshot to have counterplay.

Oh, and forget about trying to trade with him. He can just soak xp and heal with his passive if he gets low

Garen has to back up off the minion wave and lose gold. His passive is worthless early game unless he's chugging pots with it; any poke at all disables it for 8 seconds. If he wants to keep healing then he has to run away from you if you move towards him.

Finally, you can't even counter build him.

Don't lie.

His E's armor shred and Cleaver's armor shred will reduce the effectivness of your armor by so much its not even funny. And if you did build enough armor, he has true damage anyways.

Unless you're investing heavily into armor he's more effective with Lethality. His ultimate only does true damage if you're the villain. It's magic damage otherwise, meaning that building MR works against it. A Hexdrinker is the optimal choice, since he won't be able to punch through the shield most of the time.. In both cases, his armor shred doesn't matter at all for the execute.

So far you haven't listed any counterplay except to CC him during Q. Which still isn't going to stop his Q, its counterplay that applies to all champions. There is no counterplay that applies to him specifically and the only counterplay in general to him is to try and poke his passive off and CC him during Q animation. Thats all I can think of and that you have listed.

Early game its not really useful sure, but its way more than other champions have and even at late-laning phase it becomes quite noticable.

Don't lie.

Im not lieing. Armor isn't effective due to his true damage, E shred, and cleaver. Health isn't effective because of his % hp true damage. And slowing his attack speed isn't really useful due to him not utilizing attack speed well in general.

Unless you're investing heavily into armor he's more effective with Lethality. His ultimate only does true damage if you're the villain. If I build MR against him than you'll just say I wasn't building enough hp or armor against him. His ult still nukes you without ANY form of counterplay due to it being targeted, having higher range than his autos, still cast after death, still cast if animation has started, and get a full cooldown reset if its interrupted.

How about BUFF RIVEN! Please...even just a little so we don't have to feel like only BoxBox can play her.

? I thought we wanted Riot to stop turning everything into skillshots.

For real though, everyone remember Riot will never do everything we ask, because we're only a small part of the community, we don't always agree, and we're not always right.

  1. Turrets are fine. They exist to protect your base, not you, and you exist to protect them. Beyond level 3, there is no reason that a well played tower dive should not result in 0 deaths for the divers and at least one kill.

  2. Jungle XP is fine, the issue is the champs who have god-like clears. Outside of that, most junglers are just as behind as supports for much of the game unless they're taking kills left and right.

  3. This I'm indifferent about. Without some source of mana, a Pantheon is going to run out of it really fast if he's constantly using his Q. This is no different from a majority of mages who have much more powerful abilities.

  4. Not likely to happen. Doran's is actually already better on average than most tank starting options (assuming you stay in lane for a reasonable amount of time), and counter-play to ranged champs for melee champs is to get up in their face and beat them down.

  5. This I entirely agree with.

  6. I also agree with this. (also, Stattik Shyvana would be an awesome URF day skin).

  7. This ties in with 2, you're saying to nerf Jungle XP, but that will actually force even less diversity in the jungle.

  8. I'd argue that the whole ping system needs an overhaul. See SMITE for an example of a well made system.

  9. I entirely agree on this, but it needs to be something (in all cases) that does not prevent you from doing what you are doing.

  10. I only partially agree on this. The system is poorly designed (it prioritizes giving as many people their primary role as possible, so I often have an auto-filled support on my team despite declaring support as a secondary role), but it's also an issue of how people react to it. I never see people asking to swap with someone because they were auto-filled, and that really should change first (seriously, if you're in a game with me and you got auto-filled support, just ask, I will gladly swap roles with you).

  11. This is overall a larger issue. Ryze just needs removed from the game (4 reworks now, and he's still broken). Other cases need to be better balanced. That said, point-and-click CC does need to exist, it's a hard counter to most assassins (and one of the few other than just out-sustaining their damage), and it provides an option against kiting champs as well.

  12. In general I agree with this. I disagree with the specific examples: Skarner: Is not played because there are better options for jungling that aren't dependent on a gimmick that's insanely easy for the enemy team to manage, and he's functionally only viable when roaming. Mordekaiser: If you think he has no counter-play, you're playing wrong. DoT effects tear through him (Teemo and Brand are both good picks into him if you play smart), and killing him removes any ghosts he has from play. Garen: There's less to argue here because of his kit, but counter-play is not hard. CC him after he Q's, maintain reasonable distance, and don't let him near you when you have less than 1/3 HP. Shyvana: Also easy to counter-play, she's heavily AA based, so a good Teemo or Quinn will at least go even, she has zero disengage other than her ult (so grouping works well), and is melee range for everything except Q, which means that half an average team out-ranges her (which in turn means that good vision to prevent ambushes is valid counter-play against her).
