Illaoi's Test of Spirit

I find it unbalanced. Either I have to fight Illaoi while super-slowed or else I have to deal with tentacles start spawning everywhere I walk. At least the tentacles attacks aren't fast, otherwise Illaoi would be more annoying than Heimer.

After she pulls the spirit out, you can attack her directly to shorten the duration of the spirit. So basically hit her so she doesn't hit your spirit as much.

you can attack her or avoid the tentacles and attack 3 of them

Yep. They die in two auto attacks also. There a many worse things than her tentacles.

Worst case scenario, what about teammates who completely forget they got the tentacle debuffed and they keep forgetting to kill the tentacles spawns?

I have played Illaoi on the PBE and I think she is pretty balanced. No escapes at all constitutes her kit. She is like pre rework Darius. Either completely shit on the other laner or the jungler grows a brain and camps you and you get destroyed because you have no escapes.

It's a strangely game-warping ability that comes off CD relatively soon after the time spent on pulling it off. It's a tough ability to face (which is normal), but I don't think there's any kind of way to play around it outside of dodging it. You're actually punished for walking out of the ability's radius. It's nice that you avoid a bit of damage by running but in the end it takes quite a lot to just get up and leave what you're doing. Especially during laning phase.

Imagine if Jinx W kicked you out of lane every time it hit. Ow.

You either dodge it or once she pulls the spirit out you fight her. Attacking her shortens the duration of the spirit being out and either she attacks you back directly (which means the spirit won't get killed) or she keeps attacking the spirit as you attack her and your trade should be favorable to you since you only take a portion of the spirit's damage). In team fights it's harder, but in laning this seems to be a good approach to dealing with her E.

The true strength of the ability lies in teamfights I'd imagine.

Oh definitely, I haven't played her enough to really advise a way to deal with her teamfighting

"The Spirit has 100% of their current health and lasts for 10 seconds, reduced by 1 second each time Illaoi receives damage from the target champion."

Holy crap you're right. I guess I didn't pick up on that despite toying around on the PBE a while back. Fair enough then, if that's anything it means that picking champions that can trade well against her are the perfect fit.

Except she can hit both you and the spirit for even more damage. I tried to fight while the spirit was out and I just died faster.

Just have to position yourself so that she can't hit both you and the spirit

Which is impossible mid lane since she can place tentacles at the four corners and will never be out of range unless you just give up farming completely. And if you're melee you have to take damage to destroy the tentacles because your abilities don't damage them.

Tentacles only attack you if she does her W to you or you have your spirit taken out and killed. They're pretty easy to kill (2 hits) and having a situation like you described shouldn't come about easily.
