We will be able to start with non jungler items ever again?

Recently well, kinda, jungle items have been given a passive that grants extra xp from jungle monsters. Meanwhile, jungle monsters had the xp they give on kill reduced. This was basicly meant to avoid adcs taking an early camp to start at level 2, which makes sense. However this took away from varied paths junglers could take with their early items.

Starting with a Dorans for stronger invades or an item that builds into a bigger one for faster power spikes is no longer a viable option. The now mandatory jungle item, even if not finished, still takes a slot that is only used to grant that you, as a jungler, can keep up with levels.

Am I the only one who wishes that we could have some sort of reversion on that change for the sake of diversity?

probably not, nobody liked the level 2 top cheese that instantly lost your lane if you didnt do it

I wish they could at least tie the extra xp to smite, so it removed some of the cheese while giving diversity back to junglers.

This. Just do this. Sure we could have top smite meta again but its a tradeoff of a summoner spell at least.

They would need to give up map presence or kill potential for a level 2, it seems fair to me.

there are 3 reasons for the current situation. (a) like you said to avoid cheese. to make laners not able to efficiently clear and get sizeable level 2 advantage. (b) to make junglers not have PVP stats at the beginning of the game so that they cant fast level 2/3 off their first/third camp and go 1v1 the enemy lane. (c) to disincentive poaching into the mid game.

  • which is why the extra gold and xp is not on smite but actually is on the item. it's to prevent you from going doran's blade.

Seemed completely counter to the lvl 1 item diversity they wanted for other positions... Only choice now is red pots or refillable...

it is not reasonable to attempt and achieve item diversity at level 1. first because champions are the most alike at level 1 (1 skill, ranged or melee) second because it is not reasonable that a single champion will have wildly varying early level goals UNLESS you allow cheese starts (old red pot start on riven for instance) (in which case some champions have a choice between cheese and no cheese). with no wild variation in goals, there isn't going to be a wild variation in items.
