Malphite's ult has long been criticised for lacking any real counterplay.
So why in the long time that Malphite has been around that he hasn't received any kind of balancing? AP Malph is coming up more often recently (Or at least in my games, not sure about everyone elses)
Even a small channel like Lux's ult would be something.
Because its already extremely telegraphed as the only thing Malphite is going to do in almost any important encounter and making it worse would put him in the dumpster

its SUPER ez to dodge or predict malphite r since malphite has no other action that makes him run fast to u other than ms and righteous.
only time where it lacks counterplay is when hes full ap and in the fog of war but if u see him you just need fast reaction speed.

Oh yeah gut the ability of a champion that it’s pretty much his theme since his release cause of your stupidity that you can’t buy bansess or zhyonias or flash and see malphite now being useless and die on 0.5 seconds cause his kit is blow up at least his R-E now he have aQ only to use but you can delete him cause his AP but noooo you always need to build ludens and you already flashed to ks the 10 hp support and now you come at board to cry about malphite ultimate! Gtfo

Also not every ability needs to have counterplay (even though the malph R has counterplay, especially if you consider the mobility in today's meta)
Because you don't need to have counterplay to EVERY SINGLE ABILITY in a champion's kit. You need to be able to counterplay champion as a whole, not every aspect of it.

They still haven't implemented counterplay to %max HP true damage yet so no need to take away his only contribution to a team, especially since going tanky feels stupid as they dont even target you in a teamfight as you lack damage and non-ult CC to be a threat unlike most other 'tanks'. (If you can even still call them tanks, ornn's basically a bruiser that can't scale with anything and gives teammates an item if they haven't lost the game by level 13)
