Probably i have figured out the Mordekaiser rework
Even tought there are many things i disagree with CTD, while thinking about his work i started more to look at the meaning of his changes, rather the changes itself. One of the first things he said was that he wanted Morde to be a good substitute for a ADCin botlane... but the things he exposed later suggested more about him, like he talked about jungle and solo lanes even tought the proposed changed might not reflect that. And i tought and tpught, and came to a conclusion.
Let' s forgive a moment the actual proposed kit and let' s focus on the intent: Riot wanted a Mordekaiser rework, one that is somewhat needed since the champion hardly sticks to his current fantasy ( that started jumping from being a melee storm of destruction to a tankmage ). After all the information gathering resulted some stuff: he needed to be strong melee, to be durable and to scale in fight duration while becoming a true threat, but at the same time he should not have CCs ( else he looked like many other tanks ) or mobility skills ( else he looked like any other engager/diver), and gave him the spot of Juggernaut: a slow moving hulk of death. But how can something like that work, if he can' t reach his target? He has ranged capabilities, but they hardly suffice. So, CT explained that he needed the help of his team in order to fully succeed on his intent, something that made many people rage for obvious reasons, since their beloved champion ( and mine too ) was about to be changed drastically.
But then again, think about it: what does mean if he gets mobility, gap close and stuff like that? it makes him more indipendant, alright, but it makes him far, far more similiar to many other champions. This game has far too many similiar champions, and some degree of characterization is needed under reasonable circumastances, and immobile fighter fits him well.
But let' s see the game as whole, for a moment. This is a team game - you give something, you need something. An example of this are ranged carries, that need some kind of care throught the game. Now let' s look at supports: why they exist? They do because they cover up weakness of the player they are supporting, in the case of carries providing early game power, engagement protection and aggression and gank safety.
But why they have to be always carries? It' s stale to have the supports always adc centric, why not sending them to support somebody else with a glaring weakness they can cover up? and i don' t talk about morde, but in general. At this point it is natural that a champion like Mordekaiser gets a support, if worth, or that he has enhanced ganking power and a safer farming so he can play around his weaknesses and focus on crushing allied help. And this generates new strategies, new distribution, new player interactions, new compositions...
What CT did is not cool. Is something genious, because it' s an important step on evolving the whole game, and CT took the opportunity and did something reasonable and avant-garde, even tought in my opinion is still half-baked in execution.
But the idea, the progress is there and should be encouraged to come out fully fleshed and formed.
Sorry if this makes not much sense in some parts, it' s hard to me express some things since I am foreign, and thanks for reading.
