If you are complaining about Veigar 1-shotting you just now...

Sooko·10/14/2015, 11:45:41 AM·27 votes·3,406 views

... you are doing it wrong.

I get that he is quite strong at the moment, and in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he needed nerfs, but if there is a thing to complain about, it is either his bonus AP, his new range or his safety farming. His damage has been what he did best for ages.

Its Garen all over again. You should complain about what he can do now, that he couldn't do before, not what he has been doing since before the Big Bang.

...

Pun intended

If you build glass cannon mage and are upset about Veigar one shotting you, then i really hope riot doesnt take your advice on any balance decisions.

DropFill10/14/2015, 4:31:38 PM5 votes

Before, he was only able to nuke one person. Now with his Q being in a line, with his W decreased delay, and with his stun stopping dashes, he is able to nuke much more people than before. He is also way too safe. His Q has a decent range so he doesn't have to actually interact with you in lane. He just stays there, farming, until he presses R and you die cuz you bought AP...

Yuri By Mail10/14/2015, 4:20:06 PM4 votes

Oh my goodness, an anti-mage designed to counter glassy cannon mages does its job? Oh good lord pls rito pls nerf.

Here's a protip: There are non-AP Midlaners. Who would have thought?

yea.. they should've been complaining about Veigar one shotting them before any Veigar changes and before DFG was removed.. he used to be arguably worse back then... (in terms of burst) now, i believe his numbers got nothing but nerfs aside from Q being turned into a skillshot, being able to hit 2 enemies now, having longer range, and being able to stack off of assists now... but on the flip side he got less reliability on all his abilities (in the form of Q being a skillshot now and stun having a delay) except his ult, which got a number nerf instead.... idk why complaints about Veigar are showing up now, rather than always being a thing....

zouzou12310/14/2015, 12:14:15 PM3 votes

veigar can be dodged, just watch out for his stun. IF Veigar misses his stun he is in trouble.

Penns10/14/2015, 12:24:22 PM2 votes

What exactly are you doing wrong? "You didnt stay away 1000 units from Veigar" or "you didnt buy every MR item in the game" isnt really "doing something wrong" in my book lol.

  1. Buying a Banshee's Veil as a second or third item immediately makes it impossible for Veigar to kill you alone unless he has 1000+ AP, which he shouldn't if anyone on your team knows what they're doing, and even that happens after 30 minutes when literally any assassin could delete you just as well.

  2. Protip: His rank 1 e doesn't stun you long enough to prevent you from just walking out of his W, unless you manage to get the stun cast around you, THEN walk into it. So just walk away, or even better walk towards him and murder him for daring to cast his E for anything other than saving himself or ganks in lane.

  3. Play aggressive. I can see firsthand how hard silver/bronze finds this, but 75% of people in my shit elo will let me freefarm until I have a tear and a needlessly large rod, and then I can actually kill the enemy APs on my own. Pick a lane bully into him and get him out of lane at least once (killing or making him back, either way) before he has a tear, because that will just absolutely screw his entire laning phase. Riven mid isn't particularly popular otherwise, but it's nearly impossible to lose that as riven. If you absolutely have to be an AP mid, pick someone with reliable poke and better waveclear, like ziggs, xerath, or lux, and shove him under tower as soon as you can, because that will pretty much always prevent him from double killing minions with his q.

  4. He's not like the juggernauts, or even most hypercarries, in that he isn't actually difficult to kill at any point in the game, being squishy as hell and immobile, with weak movespeed. He has a single self peel ability with a long cooldown, which is easily avoided by anyone with a dash or even a movespeed boost if he puts it around you (or god forbid he tries to put the hitbox directly on someone, that just doesn't work unless you are a potato), and does nothing if he puts it between you and him provided you're bright enough to not walk into it. If you're not mid and you're afraid of someone letting veigar get ahead, play someone that can reliably get to him, and do that in teamfights. Nocturne is a prime example, especially if you take an early Banshee's (as in, your first tank item after you get your jungle item and your single damage item) for the double spellshield.

TL;DR: Don't be an idiot, he has a horribly abusable laning phase, is squishy with little defense, and has solid counterbuilding options regardless of how fed he is. Don't call for nerfs because you're too stupid to either counterpick him or change your build if he gets fed, as you should for literally any other champion in the game. People are just shocked because he isn't a subpar champion anymore and is actually moderately effective at what he does.

Enosetc10/14/2015, 6:21:22 PM2 votes

people tend to complain about the most frustrating aspect of a champion's kit when shifts in their numbers, itemization or the meta mask their weaknesses

veigar one-shotting mages wouldn't be as frustrating without the j4-ult spam or the safe farming from 950 range that he has access to when he's counterpicked in lane

xl Kirito lx10/14/2015, 6:42:15 PM1 votes

G5&B spent so much time calling for Veigar buffs, and now refuse to admit he got overbuffed. As much as people hate the juggernauts, at least they're possible to kite.

Tyaldan10/14/2015, 8:54:39 PM1 votes

Veigars literally had barely any change, the animation speed change changed him just enough that some popular player thought hey ill give it a shot and suddenly hes everywhere and everyones complaining. Ive loved veigar for a while, i played him a ton just before the champ mastery update, i had my first ever penta kill with him, and thought he was just fine. This was after stun nerf, after q change veigar, before the slight buffs he had recently. the slight buffs didnt change him that much, just some QoL changes. After months of people bitching about how weak he was now everyones bitching about how strong he is and i just love how hilariously two sided people are about this super fun relatively balanced champ.

Shepard Normandy10/14/2015, 12:07:21 PM1 votes

I don't see any problem with veigar or vayne for example that everyone is complaning abount, even jinx, all these champions can be taken donw and they pay for every single mistake they do, on the other hand... we have juggernauts that can kill you in 2 hits and go in the enemy team if they see that they will die they just walk away and laugh at you while you deal 0 damange to them, 1 fed darius can destroy all your team and lets not talk about Mordekaiser...

MyTeamIsAwsome10/15/2015, 4:21:18 AM1 votes

We can complain about veigar being op bu we cant complain about Graves not having a GOD dam cigar!

Bijorn10/14/2015, 12:23:25 PM1 votes

I see a Veigar in my game? I counterpick him and destroy him in lane not allowing him to farm at all.

Burn everything. Brand

Kitten of Evil10/14/2015, 3:30:22 PM1 votes

I don't think Veigar's a problem right now, but to be fair, a champion's kit can stay the same and still be a problem if everyone around them is nerfed or an itemization change makes it easier for them to do their thing (ahem Jinx Vayne ahem).

Fiveofswords10/14/2015, 4:35:13 PM1 votes

veigar cant 1 shot anything unless you fed him

the only reason veigar ever gets fed, from my experience, is people walking into his stun when they totally didnt need to

its actually quite funny to fight typical veigars when you dont suck, theres lots of totally irrelevant cages thrown that do ntohing, bombs fallign with zero chance of hitting you, etc. he seems quite weak, except for his ult. thats it.

but watchign your teamates die this way is just sad. it has nothing to do with veigar its bad teamates. Bad teamates op.

Ultîma10/14/2015, 4:50:32 PM1 votes

I think you're missing the mark OP.

Veigar is a burst mage in the same class as Annie, Brand, and Syndra. It's his job to get as close to one-shotting the enemy carries as humanly possible. I think what's unfair is that Veigar gets stronger against champions who need to build AP specifically - his identity was never solidified as an anti-mage (a role better filled by Kassadin) and it's simply ridiculous that the difference between surviving veigar's burst and getting one-shot hinges on your own performance as a player. Simply put - are you farming well? Getting kills? Getting all the gold in the world and slowly reaching your end-build? Veigar pretty much says "fuck you" to all that and presses R. It's an antiquated and frankly ridiculous mechanic.

RamboDash1510/14/2015, 4:50:54 PM1 votes

No mobility, his only escape is his main engage, and after he one shots a carry, (most likely an AP champ), he can't do much as his Q is medium range, W has a moderate delay, and his E not only has a longer cooldown than is other basic spells but also has a longer delay. He is a one shot glass cannon; not a massive terror (he's quite tiny after all)

Chuck Charles10/14/2015, 6:11:58 PM1 votes

The real issue with veigar I feel after a few games in ranked against him is not his ratios. It is how fast he can scale. He used to be a scaling mid who is weak early, moderate mid game, and a monster late game.

Now he's a monster in the mid game. I've regularly seen veigars have around 800 ap at 35-30 minutes which is way stronger than anyone else can possibly be.

Being able to double stack Q is an issue as well as the ap per assist. Although I feel the double stack per Q is the real culprit
