The problem with LeBlanc's Distortion
So, I was thinking about the functionality of LeBlanc's distortion (W dash) in light of the recent nerfs. Increasingly, I'm thinking that making a balanced/fun version of this ability may just be incredibly difficult. The idea of slowing the dash was to increase counterplay against LeBlanc. The problem is that using W to deal damage tends to put LeBlanc in a very exposed position, so the relationship between the dash speed and typical human reflexes is extremely important. Here are the options:
-
LeBlanc can dash in and out more quickly than (most/all) people can react (pre-nerf). This makes W a reliable source of burst with prediction plays as the only real counterplay.
-
LeBlanc dashes in slow enough for people to react (post-nerf). This forces LeBlanc to choose her spots very carefully or risk getting CC'd and chunked or killed in response. (Note there isn't any counter-counterplay since once LeBlanc commits to her dash, she can't change where she's going mid-ability.)
I don't really think there is much middle ground between these extremes since LeBlanc either will or won't move slowly enough for people to react. (So, there's either a lot of counterplay, or very little.) The closest you could manage might be a speed where only some fraction of people could respond quickly enough...which honestly doesn't strike me as the optimal solution. I don't really want to suggest what I think is the optimal solution, but rather simply to lay out why I think this ability is problematic. I imagine there's some number for the Distortion missile speed (between the current 1300 and the old 1600) around which LeBlanc's effectiveness will vary dramatically, as it becomes slow enough to allow for reflex responses.
is still my bae, 100k champ points and counting.
