What is it that make ezreal so extremely overpowered in the jungle?

Up until someone came up with the jungle ezreal schtick he was considered the weakest ADC in the game. So what happened? What is it that makes him so ridiculously broken in the jungle compared to the ADC role?

He isn't overpowered, people simply aren't used too it. The jungle avoids ezreal main weaknesses.

Ezreal is an early game adc that needs to win and close in a timely fashion. He was picked jungle to gank early and help push down towers immediately.

He is coming bot or mid pre six and getting a kill plus tower or he failed.

Now let's look at why this fails in lane.

  1. Ezreal has a horrible mana pool and must build tear. Tear completely negates his early game focus and auto loses lane.
  2. Minions creep block him, making it harder for lane ez
  3. Jungle build is cheaper. Triforce+manamune two item spike use to be Ezreal time. Now crit adcs get a far better two item spike at the same time.
  4. Every adc in the game out pushes ezreal. He is the only adc with zero waveclear. All ad casters released after him far outshine him.

Red buff/blue buff/jungle mechanics cover Ezreal's weakness. The jungle allows him to poke with no block. If you play safe early, you should easily outscale him.

He is the most popular adc in Korea and one of the most popular in the world. People will find a way to play him.

Nothing, he just took 10 fucking years to scale with tear.

...I can never tell if you're sarcastic or serious. You always talk like that.

Unless you're always sarcastic. If that is the case, I have a newfound respect for you.

Awhile back, Ezreal's passive was buffed, and then his Q was buffed to have lower CD at earlier ranks. This makes it much easier for him to stack it quickly, and attack speed is invaluable for clearing the jungle quickly.

As a result of those changes, Ezreal has some of the fastest jungle clear times in the game, and his early damage has never been weak. This lets him rush into a lane with double buffs faster than most other champions could ever dream of, and beat you down with Red buff empowered basic attacks and Stormraider's Surge.

EDIT:

Furthermore, the mana regeneration passive found on the jungle items, as well as Blue buff, enable him to forgo building Tear of the Goddess to access his power spike items, Trinity Force and the Warrior Enchantment, far quicker than he can in bot lane.

Makes me wonder if that actually makes him OP as a whole.

Past experience suggests that Clear speed is a poor balancing lever for most Junglers. Slow clearing Junglers were always vulnerable to faster clearing junglers who would always have the level advantage. (Which is tank junglers sucked, until Jungle items like Quill coat, and now Cinderhulk helped their clear speeds.)

But in the one worlds game that I saw him in, I wasn't particularly inspired. The shout casters commented about having a particularly expensive build for a Jungler. And even with that early game cheese, He didn't offer a lot to the comp. (Enemy has 2 tanks, and Ez didn't build a BotRK, or any other health shred.)

Thus begs the question, is Jungle Ez a problem? Well maybe, you don't have a lot of room to buff him, so it would be difficult to make him viable anywhere else, without making his Jungle build OP.

He clears the jungle very fast 3 camp double buffs at 2:25 (you can find some examples of this: 1 2 3 ) while staying healthy so long as he avoids Raptors and Krugs.

For more details I'll lift what someone on r/summonerschool had to say on the topic

I've been playing [Ezreal jungle] a lot. It's basically just for the early game cheese. See Ezreal jungle has the fastest level 3 possible out of all junglers besides maybe shaco which is insane. No one matches his speed really and his level 3 with double buffs makes him one of the best early game duelists. It's pretty crazy his damage output which can also make for good ganks early game.

Into the mid game or after his double buffs wear off lol. He becomes pretty bad or really bad if not ahead. he can't clear raptors or krugs fast at all. Wolves are decently slow but doable. He is very buff reliant and needs to get ahead early. Which he can do because he is like the best early game jungler currently.

Try finding a faster clear then this lol so stupid. http://plays.tv/video/59a9f4dc377cac4308/stormraider-ezreal-2-25-level-3

For reference here is a document containing a number of other jungler's clear times, routes they took, which patch it was performed under, and a video of their respective clears (including the jungle Ezreal clears linked earlier).
