Starting to play adc a bit and..

it be lìke that··30 votes·2,348 views

Let me just say as a jungle main i have had my fair share of arguments with adcs.

However, playing as an adc has opened up my eyes quite a bit.

When you get the stubborn high and mighty supports who are like "YOU DONT PICK MY CHAMPION FOR ME I AM A PROUD INDEPENDENT SORAKA WHO DONT NEED NO MAN" and they provide 0 poke so you can farm and just sit behind you complaining whenever they need to lift a finger to press heal before afking again.

So i get the frustration, not all supports are hitler, but honestly, refusing to play a champ to compliment your adc is just obnoxious, if you say you cant play that champ well i understand and we can work something out. Dont freak out from the start.

and if you are gonna make me lane with soraka, AT LEAST go for roots and poke. It's the most tilting thing in the world where you try to make a play and they just stand there.

Heaven forbid you die because you are essentially in a 1v2 with a leech attached to your leg siphoning xp, then you get crucified in all chat.

Its always sad to see supports treat their ADCs like crap or vice versa.

I try to be a nice support, but when my ADC is a dick, I may forget how my stun works or that Exhaust is up, oopsy!

Some support mains are great, but not the overplayed supports (Sona Soraka some of them help alot, but just plain healing doesn't help when you're being bursted down by an assassin) but the more unique ones like Bard Anivia Nami help way more since they actually require skill to use, especially nami. Her movement speed buffs helps dodge, chase, or retreat while providing decent healing power to most of the team

I have a support Blitz who would do absolutely jackshit when the enemy tried to collapse on me and use his MS steroid to leave me in the dust and flame me on dying.

1374341 votes

It depends on the situation. Blitz is not the best at preventing collapses (his kit is based primarily on bringing the enemy to you...not keeping them away) and sometimes as a support you got to cut your losses and let the adc die rather than give a double kill.

Shouldn't have flamed you of course, hopefully you weren't flaming him for leaving you in the duct though.

Knoyle1 votes

There are times when you can't save your adc and times where biting the bullet is the best call when your adc will leave instead of them getting a double with the sweet shut down gold to boot.

JeLLö1 votes

Hypothetical comment here for a good learning opportunity. When that happened in game, based on the tone of your post, I am going to assume you were blaming, at least in your head, the blitz for letting you die. The approach you should be taking to this is by thinking to yourself what could you have done differently so that you wouldn't get collapsed on in the first place. And of course muting the blitzcrank for flaming. Always mute those people, you will win more games if you mute flamers and encourage your teammates to as well if they are getting flamed.

Remember, supports are people too. And people suck.

In my Experience, I can never actually seem to land poke playing soraka. And if I move up to poke, I'm going to get harassed, and if that happens I can't heal myself, and I'll have less health to give you.

But I can't really speak for the Raka mains. If I wanted a Sustain lane, I'd rather be playing Sona.

idk i've seen great poke sorakas before but anyone who just wants to stand behind the adc irritates me.

I just played with a braum, he picked bruam because i asked him too. we destroyed in lane.

but of course, team fed the 2-5 jinx and i finished the game with more assists than kils because of greedy shen, shaco and a few braum steals.

That's another aggravating point i didn't see before.

Support top laners/junglers or your support themselves intentionally sniping kills.

Fairly upsetting, now i dont mean its a brawl and they happen to take it, i mean they wait and fire 1 skill shot and run off laughing.

Nautoday2 votes

As a Nautilus support main I feed off Soraka's trying to poke me. If they are trying to poke me, that means they are in distance of my hook, which means they might mess up. If I grab Soraka, she dies. Simple as that.

However, when I go against a Raka that plays back and just heals the ADC, it's miserable. I either have to wait for her to accidentally come forward, or wait for a Jungler to come.

it be lìke that1 votes

interesting, but i mean stand behind the minion wave right?

im playing jhin in this game vs ashe.

Like i was poking ashe to 50% then i would say ROOT HER.

i had cycled 2 shots on minions to get to my crit faster.

She would have died easily, but instead i run in for it she doesnt even move off the tower. I die and its my fault for being too aggro.

Its all perspective I guess but still. You can't say soraka is a farming lane (like the soraka was saying) but not help me get into a decent spot to actually farm.

Pushed up under turret is a miserable way to have to cs early.

Nautoday1 votes

A lot of time that'll just lead the Raka to get poked by the ADC, since the ADC should know better than to poke the other ADC.

I've had people gripe and complain about how I play Nautilus support because I "wasn't helping them."

Their idea of helping them is for a melee champ to stand at the front of the minion wave so that they will be the ones poked instead of the ADC. Sorry, I'm not gonna sit there and die for no reason when I can wait for an opening to grab them and kill them.

it be lìke that1 votes

her taking a poke or two to land a root sounds like an incredibly worth trade.

If she lands a root for jhin im punishing that ashe horribly. (giggity)

But standing 5 feet behind the adc while he is frantically trying to clear wave before it gets to the tower, is just ridiculous. farming under tower is sooooooo frustrating as jhin, for me at least.

Nautoday1 votes

I understand her coming up every once in awhile to root or whatever, but I wouldn't expect her to remain that close for most of the time.

it be lìke that1 votes

personally the best sorakas ive seen follow the wave up so they cant be grabbed or hit by most skillshots and will land a root or the aoe heal thing. (not really familiar with what button is what for her but i know what they all do) but there is zero reason any support should think they all they are going to do is stand in the back and press 1 button on occasion. Just go for the root sometimes soraka pls. and zone out the enemy support who is actually poking.

ThePompf1 votes

Sorakas root is hard as hell to hit right. I RARELY make it work, i usually just use her E for the silence Amumu

right but jhin root into soraka root should be ez pz.

I woulda settled for a silence though, i never saw her use her e once in lane.

Most raka's dont realize that they can essentially use their AoE root to prep their Q for easy health sustain to enable continued healing of their ADC.

This is part of the reason you have roughly half of them playing a super passive heal batter and ability splurging blindly whenever their ADC gets dived and hoping it works, instead of using their kit how it was designed to be used (in conjunction with a damage carry to sustain their output and win a war of attrition over the course of an entire phase/battle, not just burst/short dive engagements. )

This is going to sound extremely cliche, but a lot of the points in the two video's I'm linking are going to be relevant to the whole "passive support" dilemma.

I'm a support main. I don't do any of those, and I die a little inside when I see others do it. I recently got pushed to my secondary role (I was quite surprised), and played ADC. My Support was a Soraka, who at least poked, but aparently doesn't read patch notes. Ended up buying two Ardent Censors and made a few questionable plays during the game.

DunkinNoobs3 votes

Now imagine that you play Morde Bot and have to deal with constant tantrums from your supports just for picking it. And don't worry, if it ever goes bad bot lane, and it sometimes will, it will always be 100% your fault. Your support will play like a complete retard from lvl 1 onwards and all you'll ever get to hear from your entire team is "GG Morde Bot Troll".

Liquid Sloth3 votes

I play all lanes. Not poking as as a support is the worst thing you can do. Hell. I will shield myself as Janna and poke a lot or at least wind them. Push the lane a little (not cs steal) when they start to get close to tower. Its also equally bad when your a support and your adc does no poking when they can or plays so safe and waits for a jungle to come before they even bother attempting to hit the enemy once.

straight up, its easier to poke people huddled under their tower than it is to poke out (minions blocking skillshots)

Then in comes big boy Gragas for the dive.

I mean I just played a game where my support was away from bot like 70% of the time and then blames me for getting wrecked.

I played safe but taht doesn't stop vayne from tower diving and deleting me in 4 hits along with the soraka heals (who never left vaynes side.)

Sylvant2 votes

none is obliged to pick his champ according you, id say its better they play something they can an not something you want them to. If you want a good coop, maybe you should pick an adc to fit Soraka play style. As a newly learning adc, the way you describe yourself, it could very well be that you are not using the proper strategy when you have a said support, because it can vary alot. If you have Soraka, you should make small trade, not go too harsh on the enemy and let her cure you and herself in the downtime, at the same time the enemy will be loosing health to a point they will have to retreat from farming duo to you outsustaining them. Dont expect Sorakas to go for poke and kite the enemy, thats a very dangerous way, if she gets focused she can be shut down pretty easily, but if she is alive behind you and you are not diving like mad, she can keep you up.

it be lìke that2 votes

I don't demand they play who i want, i simply ask them "hey are you a good braum? We can do some braum lucian cancer"

or something along those lines.

I will say however, i have never had a Janna i didnt think was utterly useless.

As to my issue with Soraka, you literally have to go for poke and roots, there is no excuse not to. If you think its acceptable to just occasionally heal your adc then ultimately be non existent then idk..

GuardAbuse1 votes

As a Janna main, that makes me sad. Janna gives the ability for her carry to set up (unless you do a fancy flash ult, but that's better in the middle of a fight). Raka is similar. Janna's shouldn't poke unless they're using autos on the melee support. She'll simply run oom. If I'm in an agro lane and see an opportunity my adc is going for, I shield and get ready to nado or w. In bad lanes, I shield harass (I'll do this in good lanes as well, but it matters a bit more in bad lanes). That being said, my adc and I are usually on the same page because we both understand the nuances of bot lane (not to imply you don't). I simply keep my adc alive in most cases. I have flashed, shielded, mikael's, locketed, and ulted within half a second (button mashing op) to save my adc with less than 50 health. That is valuable and won us the fight.

PrinceArchie2 votes

Yea a lot of people dont realize Playing ADC can literately be a 1v2 scenario if you're support doesnt wanna do crap, by essentially pretending to play even a defensive healer type support. Giving a few heals every now and then is not all you need to do :/

The Yetii Rider2 votes

If you're playing a sustain support against a poke support playing back is your best option. You actually deny the enemy Spellthief gold by staying out of range.

Meanwhile, going in to try and deny ADC CS gets you counter harassed and possibly killed.

Healing is safer for not feeding. You may lose lane, but you risk losing it a lot more if you die.

it be lìke that1 votes

Im fairly sure the cast range on her aoe heal missile is fairly large. she can cast it from a reasonable distance in an attempt to zone or deny cs.

Sitting there the entire laning phase is unacceptable.

Nielarken2 votes

This agitates me a lot, I play a very large amount of soraka and I dont think you understand that her Q does 70dmg with a 35% ap scaling every other support in this game that has a damaging "poke" ability deals more and has a higher scaling then her. There is no way a soraka is going to zone anyone because if she walks up to harass after lvl 1 she gets blown up with no way to heal herself. However if you want to zone the adc ->YOU<- yes ->YOU<- need to take advantage of the fact that you can basicly not fear poke and always win trades. So many times I have had adc that will ignore the enemys walking right past them to shoot me in the face. Protect soraka so she can protect you.

it be lìke that2 votes

I am speaking for this soraka;s particular case and im not speaking for level 1 base stats?

At level 5, if you arent q'ing at all what are you even doing?

I didnt say go rambo and chunk them down to 50% like you are blitzcrank so i can auto twice and act like a god.

Throw a damn q so they have to dodge and maybe miss some cs or get me some breathing room. You don't get to afk just because you have a moderate heal at low levels.

in the words of our favorite hearthstone card.

what it comes down to and every one is missing the point ... is match ups. team comps. if you see the enemy team is full of dive champs such as a Ekko Hecarim Yasuo Leona Tristana dont pick Soraka , pick Soraka vs a heavy poke/passive lane. if you see Rengar a Soraka can do zero to keep Rengar from jumping on your carry. but a TahmKench Zyra can single handily stop him from getting a kill. it is up to every one on champ select to pick a proper team comp. dont bitch you have no engage with a Ezreal Shaco Soraka Talon Vladimir . or if you dont see any kind of cc or tank on your team and youre last pick as a support pick something accordingly Nautilus Malphite Leona Braum Thresh . you're more likely to win if all players pick properly and have a good team comp whatever it may be.

I think some people don't realize that positions in league are a lot like fanbases in sports. Every group has their jerks, and every group has their nice and sensible members. Once you start playing every role, you understand where everyone is coming from more easily.

DREADN0UGHT2 votes

Every role has a stereotypical cast.

Top laners that afk farm, top laners that feed 10-0 in 5 minutes then rage quit. Junglers that don't gank, junglers that don't control objectives. Mids that don't roam, mids that let other mids roam and don't follow or shove lane. Adcs that can't last hit, adcs that just want to trade all day and end up blaming others. Supports that don't ward, supports that try engaging enemies with no clear advantage and feed for days.

We ALL have our little idiots and jerks.

Well, would you like the support telling you what to pick? In a perfect world, everyone would be selfless and pick what's best for the team, but honestly, 4/5 roles of the team are allowed to choose whatever they want for the most part, so why does the support have to pick someone to complement the ADC?

"support" by definition would be the martyr of the scenario.

You support the team, therefore you take the right tool for the job. You cant turn a screw with a hammer.

The support role has always been a forced martyr. As a jungler main, surely, you know this?

Everyone other role "supports" the team as well. Why is there that double standard for the support only?

However, I can simply hammer the screw into whatever is needed. If the support role is such an important role as you say it is, then you need to have more respect for said role and build the team comp around the support, yes?

It's pointy. It's shiny. I can hammer it, if I like. Same as the support. It doesn't necessarily have to "fit" the team comp to a tee. If it's so important, build a team comp around the support.

Basically, bring nails to use that hammer instead of screws.

Okay support issue is now on the backburner.

I will now teach you the difference between nails and screws.

You cannot hammer a screw, because the ridged edges,(into something is actually meant for) you could use it as a nail if you absolutely had too but it would be unreliable and shoddy, screws are used in appliances to hold pieces together, as to where nails are much longer and designed to puncture harder surfaces and build frames.

You basically contradicted yourself and said "i dont wan to use any nails ( x support that would actually help the team) i wanna use screws (fucking sion support)

Actually, you mentioned that the hammer is the support.

Whereas the screws are your team.

So change the screws (team) to fit the hammer needs (support). There, the team (screws) needs to pick around the support (hammer) and become the nails.

Why you want to use a tool analogy is beyond me. Just burn whatever you are trying to fix and buy a new one.

It seems like you need to play some Soraka in order to open your eyes a bit more.

it be lìke that1 votes

I have had great sorakas who terrorize the enemy with well placed roots.

Standing BEHIND the carry for the majority of the lane is not how it should be.

Ulriah2 votes

Actually that depends on the match-up, but as a rule of thumb, when you have a Soraka support, YOU become the frontline.

Soraka has no poke, her Q is only good for utility, and if she ever gets caught by a blitz/leona, she's most likely going to die unless you waste all summs. If you get engaged on however, well as long as they don't instantly kill you, you'll be back to full health in no-time.

it be lìke that1 votes

That's fine, im not talking about her being right behind me including herself in the fight.

They literally stand at max heal range and do nothing else.

I could achieve the same amount of pressure/farm without her even there. The only thing she provided was they were too afraid to dive the tower at first in case she accidentally pressed her root/silence

Keep in mind I also recognize your name and now know you are following my posts just to further troll me, it wont make you any less of a cry baby about yasou tho.

Ulriah1 votes

I honestly didn't realize we met before, I honestly thought you didn't know to play with a Soraka support, a lot of new ADC's think that she should be the frontline, at one point Soraka was my main champ so I've seen some nooby ADC's.
