Ezreal? Over Morde/Panth/Mundo?
I get it. Riot is a business. It’s a free game and they have to make money.
Ezreal being one of the most memorable and popular characters with a rich skin library and rewarding gameplay (even playing AGAINST him- it’s satisfying to actually outplay and catch an Ezreal) is probably one of the more lucrative rework choices. That, and his W is uninspired and his model is aging.
However, as the game develops its “new” look (let’s say beginning somewhere between Nasus VU and Sion 2014 VGU), they need to pull up the back end of the champion pool. This game has many different characters that have no business sharing a world, so they’re developing a flavorful streamlined style, and I like that recent designs are
-
sleek
-
not over-designed (ex: old urgot vs new)
-
cohesive
-
sensible and streamlined color scheme that looks good and is clear on a busy screen. (Look at the color palettes on older vs newer champ designs- they’re always distilled)
There exist characters in this game, this product, that are either objectively and demonstrably worse (morde), or promote degenerate gameplay patterns if ever actually meta (morde, mundo, panth). Additionally
They’re all ugly as shit.
It feels bad when there’s such a disparity in character design. We actually saw irelia and akali come before Nunu. Why? I don’t buy the idea that the team just runs with an idea they have. At least vs priority cases where I can consistently miss an auto attack after deactivating W on morde.
How hard is it to look at a champs kit, and take the toxic parts, and change them into conditional, communicated, windowed power?
