The mid/jungle duo nerfs typify everything wrong with this game's design philosophy
I can imagine klaxons blaring and red lights going off at riot HQ with a flashing sign that said "Meta violated, Meta violated. Launch immediate counter strike".
I never used any of these strategies. Nunu/kathus or Yi/Taric, or the like. But I did face them. However I came to the same conclusion as LS in facing them that they weren't unbeatable or even unreasonable. LS went as far as to say it was a lot easier to shut down than it was to execute successfully.
The only thing these strategies proved was that skilled players who are coordinating to a high degree are more than low elo players can handle. It also proved that players get flustered when they face something new and don't know what to do. None of that really has any bearing on whether these strategies were inherently broken.

The philosophy of Riot is to baby the players and nerf the game around their inability or unwillingness to adapt. That's the fundamental problem.
You can't have an interesting strategy game that is fun to watch, let alone play, if your philosophy towards the game is to hammer down anything that sticks out too far from your predetermined position system with your predetermined team strategy.
