When do you use sunfire cape?

Because for now ,I think item 3143 is more efficient (even with the upcoming buffs in the pbe (+5 armor)

If you're a tank with high sticking power you buy Sunfire so you can have extra damage while you sit on their carries

Or waveclear power without losing tank stats, but IBG is good at that, too

I get sunfire cape with any tank i play.

Except mundo or vlad only because i'll go pure warmogs on them just for the fun of it.

I only literally buy it on shen, never saw a reason to get it over something else like randuims or DMP.

You buy it on characters that don't have impressive pushing power. I like buying it on Volibear since it not only gives you a healthy amount of armor and health, but it helps him push and once he has an enemy, he can stick for a decent amount of time.

For tanky tank who stays on the battle field more than 10 sec, dealing damage while building full tank-also stacks good with another AOE Magic damage per second-Shen,Mundo,Renekton,Zac,Nasos,support tanks

I pick it up when the enemy team has 4 AD and a tank support (thresh, leona or such.) Aside from that, I think it's pretty good on Garen and Shen.

I buy it whenever I run bruiser rammus for the extra damage cause ill already have spell pen. Same for bruiser Elise, Malphite, Amumu, Zac, and Mundo. It's just a little bit of extra magic damage that can be nice for champs who have the magic pen to bring it close to true damage.

When you're a tank with low damage and high survivability and already have or don't need other armor items.

thank you all for your answers. I had this build in mind : item 1323 item 3151 item 3116 item 3146 item 3065 item 3068 with Mordekaiser instead of item 3143 . I play with Ghost/Ignite. with deathfire masteries: I wanted to be some kind of sustained/tanky machine because I just discovered the Hextech gunblade rework. What I had in mind: since hextech gunblade heal for a percentage of ALL damages dealt,it'll heal for: my abilities,my AA,my Lyandris (which is empowered by Rylai) ,the deathfire mastery and the sunfire cap. What do you think about it, is it worth for the extra sustain or is randuin a better item? (considering this adc meta)

you use it on champions that already have AOE Dot damage. why? well. the synergy is that champions wouldn't expect sunfire cape to do a lot of damage. and it doesn't. even to squishies. but the combo of both DoT damage. like shyvana burnout or mundo fire thingy surprises them.

Sunfire cape is meant for... REALLY tanky tanks with low damage who stay in the middle of the fray.

Sunfire cape is ACTUALLY GOOD ON... DrMundo, Amumu, Shyvana, Rammus. MAAAAYBE Renekton and Zac.

Why? All of these champs do damage over time from being near them anyway (except rammus, who does it when you hit him instead), so it's essentially a buff to that damage. It buffs something they already do and want to do more of.

Second thing... all of these champs are primarily AP or magic damage champs... so magic pen is a stat that they can use well... and it will help their sunfire damage as well. Renekton is the exception here which is why I'm not sold on the item on him.

i still use it on Garen

It's good for some waveclear, as well as giving some magic damage. Normally I think DMP is better, but some people just need to keep autoing and can't benefit from it as much. For example, Sunfire works well on Akali because it gives her extra survivability and gives her more magic damage for when she dives which she can leech off of with spellvamp
