I feel like this game is falling apart and I hate that.

The game isn't fun anymore to me. I feel like the new runes were just a pretext to add even more damages to the game. But you can't balance the game just by adding more damages. The game lost most of its strategic parts to become an action game. Everything have to be so fast, so strong, so FUN. Yes, being fast and to deal damages is fun. Not being able to compete with something fast and strong isn't. I just hate that. I might not be heard and a lot of people will disagree with me but at least I said what I thought.

This is what happens when a bunch of children take over the demand of a game...We even literally had to fight for graves to have his cigar because of just how massively immature the crowd is. The kids don't know what the games really need, feelsbad for Riot tbh. They're having to constantly push out updates and corrections just to satisfy the intense needs of a bunch of spoiled children who were never taught to appreciate something.

Wrong this is what happens when ESPORTS completely takes over this games identity. This is what Riot planned. Make the game faster and flashy, to appeal to the general audience to bring in more viewers which leads to more people playing the game and with the IP to BE conversion, new players will either have to grind out endlessly to get new champs or open up your wallet which Riot wants the most.

There's a reason why I don't follow the E-Sports scene of League. All the champions are usually the same (Except for seasons 3-4, where people like Yasuo and Zed were picked in competitive, which was nice) and that the cater too much on the fact that Riot wants you to spend money to get the OP champs that you want and then new patch comes out, then you have to buy the next set of OP champs and so on and so forth.

E-Sports is also generally overrated if you ask me just because like what Ban said, it focuses too much on the masses that want high damage, fast -paced action and flashy plays. I admit, I do admire flashy gameplay, but if things like that overshadow things like slow and methodical strategies/plays, then there is a serious problem with the damage of everyone in the game.

I don't know about any of you guys but specifically because of Riot's approach to esports, I avoid anything about them - and I know a large portion of the community does as well, look in settings: "Disable Esports notifications".

I used to follow pros before Esports, when I played relatively hard core, many of my excel graphs I made for LoL were used by a many top players... the good old days.

I gave up on Riot long ago, I just play for fun in bronze :D

The irony here being that I know a lot of league players, I don't know anyone who seriously watches LoL eSports. Balancing around eSports to bring in a bigger crowd is a failure in all respects: It didn't attract more people, and it completely and utterly fucked the game.

League has been in a death spiral for awhile now. This game has not prioritized being fun for years, just how much money Riot can get and Esports.

WoW's peak was 12 million during Wrath of the Lich King.

WoW dropped down to around 3.5 - 4 million at the end of Mists of Pandaria and the end of Warlords of Draenor.

My guess would be WoW has 6.5 - 7 million subscribers right now.

This number is beyond fake and does not take in account of the millions of bot account used to level up to 30 then sale that with the amount of smurf account makes this number beyond incorrect. Just because Riot says they have over 100 million monthly player you shouldn't believe them all the time especially with the bots infesting the game.

You shouldn't believe any of riots numbers tbh. Specifically after the DynQ fiasco EVERYONE loved.

Source? This "100 million monthly players" floats around since season 3 and 4. And every season it gets repeated without a single bit of proof.

While I don't think the game is falling apart (even though the chaotic state of preseason balance tends to lend to that impression), I do think there's far too much damage, and that's leading to games becoming more snowbally, less deep and less engaging. Part of the problem, I feel, comes from the fact that there's no solid benchmark for damage in the game, or any other kind of solid reference both the designers and us players can use to evaluate exactly how much is too much (or too little) damage. How much damage should Talon be dealing at level 4? What about at level 16? How much damage is expected to kill a tank? Who knows, because right now there is no clear way to evaluate those exact numbers, and the sheer amount of variables, e.g. items, runes, the enemy's itemization and runes, etc. means it's effectively impossible to set a consistent value at any given point. This, I think, is a critical factor that has been making game balance much more difficult than it need be, and is one of the reasons why we've experienced damage creep over time, as well as a resulting increase in snowbally matches.

Blåbæret14 votes

The game feels like shit to play right now. No tactics, just snowballing after first tower.

Gubaguy11 votes

What do you mean is falling apart? The game has BEEN falling apart for what, 2 years now? When did yas come out? When did juggernaut update come out? When did they decide to buff base damage of all champions accross the board for no reason, and render towers useless?

I remember a time when trading autos at level 1 was meaningless becuase you didnt do enough damage to be bothered, and if you dove before level 10 without items you died, period. I miss 20 minute famring phases, i miss facing champions that REQUIRE items to do damage, I miss sustian champions actually sustaining fairly, i Hate how every champion 2 shots you, and has mobility that makes it impossible to escape...

Make league great again!

This is 100% accurate.

Each season the game becomes more trash. Runes just sunk it to a new low. Stupid OP champs are even more so with new runes. Other champs are struggling to find the damage they once had without dying to someone else absurd damage.

Dr Fuzzy Gloves9 votes

Doesnt matter, slowly this game WILL die. their take on the moba is impossible to balance. low cc values, with high damage. like trying to balance a knife on a knife.

At least in DotA2 everybody is so strong and the cc is so strong, that the players who co-ordinate and plan well can outplay a person who is super fed and still win. you have to outplay the enemy the entire game in DotA2. in League you get a carry with lifesteal and a semi beefy tank and the game is all but over. there isnt enough cc to lock them down reliably. Same goes for most other Mobas. HotS isnt exactly the same, but it plays similar and is incredibly balanced and fun. feels like dota in that you have to outplay all game to win consistently.

Basically my point is league got hyped early, and was actually good early, but riot through greed and in an attempt to make the game more drastic has just killed the game by comparison to other games in the genre. once people realize that the other games are better like i have, the crowds will fade and riot will get their just deserts.

The whole essence rework thing did tons more harm than good to most players. They bit the hand and now the hand is agitated. only a matter of time before it stops feeding.

Here's a graph of the "google interest" for League of Legends. https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=all&q=%2Fm%2F04n3w2r

PB4UAME3 votes

Huh what's that, it started dropping off around season 3, by the looks of it? Huh, and that's about when Tencent took over, then patch 3.14 came out, and wouldn't you know it, that's when people generally say league started spiraling into shit.

GigglesO4 votes

A big part of that was the mastery system fucking around with the game, and nerfing of bruisers/tanks... That is when damage really started becoming the main focus, instead of strategy between damage and tanking. I think all they want is high damage because its "high excitement" I've never really enjoyed any high damage patches, because it lead to less strategy.

This last patch is just a kick in the balls with how everyone says they feel so squishy. Why even have tanks when the only strategy is to nuke the enemy in 1.5 seconds or less?

PB4UAME1 votes

Have you ever played the Total War series? Absolutely fantastic games, best combat and balance of an RTS I have played, while also being a grand strategy. Other than being great games, I bring them up because they have wonderful balance between damage and defense, and also because it very quickly becomes evident that the less raw power, especially offensively, a unit has, the more one has to micro and position it properly to get the same benefit. What this means is that early game, with all the cheap, shitty starting units, games are much more strategic and tactical. The second you get heavy cavalry that can rear-charge heavy infantry units off the field, the strategic burden drops off immensely. You can just hammer + anvil even vastly more expensive armies, and have reasonable success without ever really changing tactics.

The same is true in League, but to an even greater extent as there isn't that underlying balance of defense vs offense. The more powerful skills and auto attacks are, the quicker you can instagib a stunlocked opponent, or a melee just trying to get in range, the less strategy, skill and tactics are required, and the less options and strategies are even viable.

GigglesO2 votes

Kinda like having war elephants in AoE2 (age of empires) When you have 200 of them suddenly you just kinda start winning for no reason.

PB4UAME2 votes

Actually, that's a rather good analogy. Imagine a fight where you're against an opponent, and you both have shitty starting spear units.

If you have 1 unit of each, well, have fun and be sure to get a good charge off, I guess, either way, they're going to duke it out, and no matter what, the results will be pretty 50/50

Make it 3 vs 3, and you can start flanking, or maybe even getting rear-charges, and these will cause the enemy to quickly lose a multi-front fight, lose moral due to being surrounded, and you'll quickly grind them up and rout them. But if you march in head-on, its going to be another long grind that could go either way.

But, if I have even just 1 war elephant, and you just have a few spears, I can just steamroll over all of you. I don't care if you get a full surround, even, I will kill all of you, and there is very little you can do about it, tactics be damned.

Or if we both have three units of berserkers, they won't listen to orders properly anyway, and they're best just running headlong into the fray to make use of their massive charge bonus, so we'll likely resort back to just smashing lines of them into each other, and maybe try to wrap around the sides, at best. It just doesn't matter as much, charging straight into them works almost exactly as well as delicately positioning them, while taking way less time and micro; why bother doing anything but charge?

The better term/example you want to use is that MOBA/DOTA-style games as a whole have lost interest. Just like the MMO bubble, we've had them for years and the wear/tear is starting to show. There's a reason PUBG is absolutely destroying every other game in terms of twitch viewership and rising playerbase.

What better term? All I said was this is the graph for "google interest" of league of legends. And anyhow, even if all MOBAs are losing interest, it just reaffirms people's opinions that League is on a downcycle. Nobody is saying "League is losing popularity compared to other MOBAs". For the record I don't think the graph is really indicative of the state of the game, it just shows how often people google "League of Legends". Could just be a result of less advertising.

PB4UAME2 votes

How does that make what he was saying or alluded to incorrect or less valid? You're still proving exactly his claim, but are also showing that people are additionally losing interest in others as well? So. . . what exactly is your point? How is it misleading when you just restate the same claim yourself?

I looked back at my previous seasons, and I used to play just a few games of everyone, and I remember it felt really great playing multiple different champions almost equally in skill. Each season I played less and less champions because they were just less fun each season. Balance got worse, and so I just stopped playing more and more champs.

PhoenixwingzZ5 votes

I agree. For my first time ever, I saw a bunch of people dancing by Baron because it was obvious that our team won the game simply by snowballing the other team to death. We danced for a long time. Then one of them accidentally clicked on our Ornn and their whole team got wiped xc

I've never seen that before. Before, anyone could make a comeback if they could outplay. Now it just feels like, once someone out-trades the competitor by even one trade, the Snowball effect is exaggerated, and all the extra features prevents old-school outplay. Any bad trades and the other team gets so demoralized because they know the punishment given the new system. Outplay can still happen.. but, idk. It just doesn't feel the same.

Now more than ever is the victor determined by whoever sustains the best connection throughout the game. It seemed like, all it took was one teamfight where I lagged to completely throw the game for my team and Snowball the enemy, even though it was 18 to 27 our lead, and I was 4 and 1 as Garen. They caught up in the weirdest way, All the ADCs' doing. That isn't right. Something is wrong. I just can't put my finger on it. Maybe that attack speed buff? It shouldn't be allowed for Jhin. He just turned into the new Vayne, and instead of invisible tumbling, he's just kiting via reloading.
