In Fortune Smiles we see that the captain gear is more formal. When it gets down to business she sheds the formal shit down to her old timey underwear and fights like that.

However, be it due to Riot or be it due to fan reception from playtesters, they stuck with base MF because people love her.

I understand and respect where you are coming from, but I don't think that it should. Both Captain and Classic Fortune are used throughout her lore. Her lore with Burning Tides features the Captain Fortune skin, while her base, introductory lore recently got updated and features her classic outfit. So, really, both are lore, but the classic skin is what people are first introduced to when looking into her lore.

I don't think her base skin is a problem. Both her base skin and her Captain skin are currently canon. Her Captain skin is how she dresses when commanding her ship, and her base skin is what she wears when she's actually doing the bounty hunting. Since her epithet is "the Bounty Hunter", I think it's perfectly fitting that her base skin is what she wears when she's doing what she's known for, even if it is more sexualized.

based on lore this wouldn't work. Although, it really would work out better for her than her base skin at the moment.

I like both Captain Fortune and MF's current Base Skin and can empathize with both arguments being made here.

Something to note however, is that although we've had several new VGUs featuring completely different outfits, Riot hasn't done a "traditional" skin in years. I wonder if they've abandoned the concept.

Agreed. Captain Fortune is more accurate according to lore, and also prettier :) less objectifying, and more in character.

What if the areas she usually sails in are hot and muggy? One of the worst things about Ixalan was riot thought that the pirate faction overdressed in the tropics. As someone who lives in Florida, people don't wear that much clothes unless they work in an air-conditioned building.
