Back in S4 and 5 (i think), when firstpick on blue side had locked in, 1st and 2nd on red would select champs simultaneously. Why isn't it like that anymore? That would be an extremely easy way to save 40 % of the champ select time. You can do the same with bans, making 3 "ban rounds" per team as well.

I can only guess to stop competing for the same champ. If second and third person on blue side wanted the same champ, you have competition for that champion, something that does not exist now. That is only a guess of course. I do think going back to both people banning can and will be quicker, same with the bans but I can only think of the sake of competing.
it gives the pros more time to think up their draft where each player gets x time instead of every 2 players getting x time.
It's not fighting over a champ but more over a role.
Because back then the person in the lower pick would sometimes instalock something and cuck the person above them out of their position/champion
