What is Riots hard-on for True Damage?
Every single champ that has true damage in their kit has been a MAJOR issue at some point of league.

Ok, so "All champions with X mechanic have been problematic at some point in League" is a stupid argument, because by that argument nearly every mechanic in league is bad and should never be used
True damage in particular makes very little sense to hate on, because it's an easily balanced mechanic with a well defined use case.
I remember Riot telling us "true damage will be RARE and most likely only seen in ultimates, or long CD abilities"
And then everyone has true damage. %hp aswell, cause fuck you tanks and your overpriced, overnerfed tank items.

They said that about percent health true damage, not true damage alone.
And there's still only three champions who have it, so they kept their word.
Four, now.
converts onhit effects to True damage. So if you buy
or
, she can get in on it.
there's nothing wrong with true damage

there's nothing wrong with true damage
There is, every champ except for Irelia has a MAJOR source of true damage. Aka a percentage, Irelia has a flat I believe 75 true damage per auto on max rank Hiten Style. Vayne has something like 12% max health true damage on third hit.
Fiora is 2 + 4.5% per 100 Bonus AD, so if she DOES go full AD that's pretty close to 17% true damage per vital hit, and she can proc 4 with her ult.
Camille is 100% on her 2nd Q if she waits 1.5sec at level 16 depending on what she builds that can come to around 1k
I mean do we see a pattern here?
are you complaining about all true damage or sustained true damage?
DPS is kind of stupid in true damage but I don't consider Fiora an issue anymore. Irelia and Vayne have a lot more issues than their true damage, and Camille's problem is that she converts all on-hits into true damage, which means that the 200-odd bonus damage she gets from Triforce becomes true damage.
There certainly isn't an issue with true damage on its own merits. If you want to argue about how it's executed, that's different. Even still, I don't consider Vayne's an issue because it has no flat damage and requires some degree of commitment; I dislike more that she's loaded with powerful steroids and self-peel, which has given rise to her current burst builds. Fiora's is obnoxious but you can play around the mechanic.
Implying Irelia's 75 true damage per auto isn't major?

Compared to 12% max health on a 4k health target. It isn't no. Irelias problem is a lot like jax's in that she deals mixed damage so it's hard to build resistances vs her.
I'm like 60% sure syndra is getting true damage in the pbe...
she is
I'm like 60% sure syndra is getting true damage in the pbe...
Yeah she is. Get ready for it.
She's getting that instead of getting 3 ball pickup.
True damage and extreme mobility fucked this game so hard I can barely enjoy any more...
It's pretty obnoxious that defensive items become worse and worse, which the Marksman update overtuned the hell out of ADC items, too. True damage is just one more thing to invalidate your gold value.
I don't think has been that much of a problem, but then there's
so I get where you're coming fromNobody ever remembers Vel'Koz... ;-;
vel is extremely strong as a sup!
Strong, but he has never been a problem for the balance team.
He has never been in need of a nerf, and none of the buffs given to him have been able to push him over the edge.
To be fair, their true damage is hardly what makes or made
and
a problem, of all their things that do.
Every single champ that has true damage in their kit has been a MAJOR issue at some point of league.
Terrible argument.
Literally every champion has been a MAJOR issue at some point in League.... even Urgot.
True damage isn't a problem.
It exists so that a champ can still deal reasonable damage to hard targets (tanks) without turning soft targets into a fine red mist. Percent HP damage follows more or less the same pattern, though it's more suited for dropping high HP Juggernauts who typically have lower resists.
%HP true damage exists for the purpose of being target agnostic. It deals equivalent damage to everyone.
It usually isn't the true damage that is the issue. It's other aspects of the champion combined with the true damage that is the issue.
For Rek'sai, it is her map control, counter-jungling, mobility, and reliable CC.
For Vayne, it's always been her self-peel and late game hyper-carry status being achieved too easily, allowing her to safely engage you every single time you walk near her.
For Darius, it's been the way that he essentially automatically wins every melee matchup.
For Camille, it's that her base stats are through the roof and she is way too tanky for the mobility and damage she has. (She's overtuned at the moment, though her kit is designed in a rather healthy way).
The biggest problem with True damage is that it's impossible to build against, especially when it's a % like Vayne or Fiora. You can have 9k health and you will still get chunked between the crits and % max health true damage.
I feel like true damage is meant to stabilize damage. Like, it prevents it from being too low so you're always relevant. It also prevents it from being too high. Or at least, it should, and that should be its trade-off. I don't understand why true damage can scale with AD/AP. It should scale with level.
Build health to counter flat true damage.
How do you explain
?
How do you explain
?
Most of Vayne's damage is physical.
That's %, not flat.
Armor and attack speed slows along with health if a tank, or more damage to try and get rid of her.
are all useful against Vayne.
? did the reworked fiora have problems?
Yes actually, her tank build was both obnoxious to deal with and thanks to her true damage she was capable of pumping out far too much damage for a champ who was so hard to kill. Mind you she was still tame compared to Tank Ekko. That was just terrible to experience.
what about
? ok wait he still has a major issue! He still cant eat all 5 enemys at once :'C Riot pls! Give him an Aoe OMNOMNOMNOMNOM! xD
That would be hilarious! xD
They like the idea of giving champs true damage so that they can deal with squishies and tanks, but are supposed to not be able to burst down either. Unfortunately, the numbers are usually overtuned and it ends up working the opposite way they intended.
True dmg should be reworked out of the game. Champs with mixed ad/ap damage is hard enough to deal with
seem pretty balanced.
all hail the 1 true damage trundle
Every single champ that has true damage in their kit has been a MAJOR issue at some point of league.
Hello there.
Even though kog has true damage the true damage has never been one of his issues.
Also name a champion who in general hasnt ever been a problem at some point in league the list is short as hell.
As pointed out by others on this thread, "X is unhealthy because every champion with X has had issues" isn't really a great argument, because the same can be said for literally any mechanic in the game, since practically every champion has had some major balance or design issues at some point in their development. However, Camille's release makes me question the larger purpose of target-agnostic damage: up until now, it was given in large amounts only to light fighters and juggernauts, due to their relatively poor target access, and a select few other champions. However, Camille is a champion with excellent target access, and her reveal describes her as someone who gets to choose exactly who she gets to fight. Why does she get to damage tanky opponents about as much as squishies? If the goal is for her to deal meaningful damage to durable top laners, what even is the purpose of being tanky in that case?
Beyond the overuse of true damage, maximum health damage and resistance bypasses, I think the reason behind it is likely that tank builds aren't scaling in the right way, and would likely dominate too hard without all the direct counters to them. Flat health and even resists can provide huge increases in durability in the early game, and thereby cause tanks to become too difficult to dislodge, especially since their items have been made increasingly cheaper to obtain, and therefore easier to rush. This can be clearly seen with abusers like Yasuo and Ekko before him, both of whom aren't meant to be tanky, yet manage to make such good use of the raw statistical power in tanky itemization that they quickly become excessively difficult to kill, while dealing a lot of free damage. Tanky itemization needs an update that should a) make it truly work only on tanks and fighters, with mages getting health and resists in acceptable amounts, and b) allow tanky champions to scale properly without having anti-tank counters as the only way to stop them from snowballing.
This has been suggested before, but if stats from itemization amplified base stats, instead of just adding flat stats, given the right stat adjustments, tanks and fighters could naturally get more durable, but at a pace that would prevent them from ever snowballing out of control, which would allow anyone to deal significant damage against them early on, even without target-agnostic damage, without them needing to get hurt as bad as squishies. Ultimately, the goal of any tanky champion should be to force opponents to spend more time trying to kill them, even if they're facing a light fighter or a marksman, and I feel that if every DPS-based champion needs some additional means of dealing with tanks beyond their natural strength against the class, there's likely an issue with an underlying system that true/max health damage is only papering over.
Every single champ that has true damage in their kit has been a MAJOR issue at some point of league.
doesn't mean the problem was true damage

Champions with True Damage.

Every champion has true damage, these are the only champions anyone plays.
It should be noted that your right they did have balance problems with some of these but Vel'koz for example has arguably the most true damage out of all them yet he's never really been busted beyond belief.
I do think that juggernauts for example shouldn't have true damage buuut i can't help it.

is regularly played aswell.
i only have a problem with vaynes true damage, because its too easily accessable and has too little counterplay.
she just has to do what she does anyways as an adc. auto attack the target in front of her. on top of that, its rather excessive, since she can immediately trigger it by auto attacking + q auto attack reset + e on a target. she doesnt even have to dps for it. she can add it to short poke trades.
every other champion who has significant true damage available is very restricted by the conditions to apply it. which means itemization counters are replaced by gameplay counters and the ability to deny that damage.
darius needs to get to 5 bleed stacks, fioras vitals are telegraphing her movement, velkoz ult is possible to move out of (though i seriously take issue with the fact that it slows), garen has to fight a specific target and even then, it is either just a small supplement of 10% over 3 seconds on his spin, with 6 second windos in between, or requires the villain to be below a certain health threshold to be fully effective.
Irelia press E, Yi press E, Ahri Presses Q, Cho press and Olaf presses E. Vayne needs 3 autos, which she procs once every 6 seconds early game and that drops down to once every 4 seconds late game... she also can't switch targets or miss click a target as it will invalidate her efforts at trying to proc her true damage. So no, Vayne does not have easy access to her true damage, and her targets are also telegraphed as whoever she attacks first is normally who she wants to stick on. Swapping targets, which is sometimes necessary, will drastically drop her overall DPS.
Certain champs like Garen and Cho easily do over 1k true damage in the span of seconds, whereas Vayne would only do a few hundred to a tank.
