So what's the edge of being melee?

GULAG 4 U··6 votes·751 views

As we all know, Ranged offensives have always been better than melee, and hell, even the military proves that. We don't use swords, we use guns. So what's the advantage of being melee? Precision. It's much harder to miss point blank. Problem? There is no "precision" mechanic in lol. You rightclick, animation goes, =1 =damage. There is no precision outside skillshots. What does this create? It creates an inherent advantage for ranged champions when it comes to offensive powers, and it forces melee damage dealers to posses high amounts of mobility and damage to work, otherwise they're trash. (Ie. mordekaiser. {quoting tastypotatox, challenger morde na}) And even with bot requirements met (Master Yi), the champion still happens to be trash outside bronze-silver. This then forces melee damage dealers to posses utility (Yasuo, wukong) and even there sometimes they're still fucking crap (Aatrox. He has mobility, aoe damage, burst, dps, some cc and yet he's a pretty crap pick). In otherwords, melee damage dealers MUST be able to do literally whatever the fuck ranged carries can but better because they are in dangerous positions for doing ANYTHING. In other words, Yasuo/riven/Wukong/etc are not designs of broken champions, but designs of melee champions that work in modern lol.

The problem is that ranged champions often have more CC, more damage, better steroids, and just as much mobility as the average melee.

GULAG 4 U1 votes

that is why I'm saying Yasuo is the example of a melee champion that works in lol. I'm not saying he's perfect, but at least he works.

this

melee champs don't have as good CC and usually worse steroids to ranged ADs, makes no sense at all

Ralanr2 votes

It's because defensive power gets outscaled easily.

Big Lincoln1 votes

terrible philosophy to begin with

melees should not be worse at everything besides tanking

WoonStruck1 votes

Its that defensive power gets outscaled alongside a significant portion often being invalidated.

Melee champions are almost always faster and are sometimes more tanky. For a lot of ranged champions, if they get hit once they probably have to recall.

GULAG 4 U2 votes

I've mentioned that in the thread.

Melee champions must be tankier and faster, or they're pretty crap.

WoonStruck1 votes

Actually, outside of control mages, supports, and juggernauts, ranged vs melee stats tend to be a pretty mixed bag overall.

What you build isn't an intrinsic 'melee vs range' thing, its a choice you make in-game.

I was not there, but i've been told stories about a long time ago where a "dodge" mechanic existed in this universe, and those same stories that narrated it,described it as "bullshit" and "toxic" and "OP Jax". I don't remember who told me these things, but you may find more in the old library of our dear city, the wiki.

The good ol days, where jax took 0 damage from turrets and fountain

GULAG 4 U1 votes

Dodge doesn't exists anymore so it's irrevelant.

Birbonius1 votes

It actually is,because it shows how riot doesn't like that idea of people not being able to hit enemies at random (Teemo decides when to blind people,so it's not at random). Also,i love to drop random information on people.

GULAG 4 U1 votes

Precision is about aiming and hitting things, not firering shit at random and praying to rngesus

#Crit

:^)

GULAG 4 U1 votes

That's not precision, precision is aobut missing or hitting, that's fucking rng lol

WoonStruck1 votes

Crit has always been 'hitting a weak spot', thematically, in most games.

Its just as much precision as simply hitting/missing because its hitting/missing that weak spot.

GULAG 4 U1 votes

Crit isn't hitting a weak spot in lol though.

WoonStruck1 votes

Who's to say its not?

Do you have a source on this?

GULAG 4 U1 votes

Because you have an equal chance to hit someone with a crit or not depending on your stats and isn't affected by how the other person plays neither but only computer RNG

Birbonius1 votes

Wait a second please.

reads again the OP

Yep,you didn't say anything about making all AA skillshots. Let me understand please.

GULAG 4 U1 votes

To be fair making aas skillshots makes the game more like a dungeon crawler

WoonStruck1 votes

Meanwhile ADCs made common use of dodge as well.

Meanwhile "crit".

Meanwhile there was an item that let you ignore dodge completely.

Birbonius1 votes

As i said,i was not there,i don't know how it did work exactly.

and yes, crit is quite toxic too,but i think only a pre-season would be a good time to delete it without causing too much trouble,so we'll have to wait for quite some years.

Meanwhile, the sun will rise in a couple hours [Cit. Tristan Timothy Taylor]

Melee champions tend to have more bulk or straight forward damage output compared to say an ADC's steady damage through auto attacks. Past that it's all about positioning and matchups. Figuring out "How do I get close to this champion to kill them or make them burn their flash/ghost..." which comes through your game knowledge of how the "target" can escape. Lets say you're ganking a Jinx, at some point she will fire her Zap and/or throw down her traps between you and her, either directly between you or in your best possible path to reach her so you have to adapt and decide if it's still worth going for when it happens, is it worth burning your flash to catch her. Another example is Ezreal. The best possible time to gank an Ezreal is when his blink is down, however if it's not you want to path into his escape route instead of directly at him so when he does use his blink it will either be in your direction or in a poor location still giving you a chance to catch him.

True, but so many ranged champions can keep your ass of theirs if you don't delete them with some lack of counterplay shit.

Example. I'm aatrox. There's a vayne.

I walk up to Vayne. She Qs. I Q vayne. Condemn. I flash on her. She flashes. I get to her thanks to ruined king slow and E. tumble is up again and by now I'm probably in passive. See? I have to lose a trade in order to get the condemn down, to get an opportunity to fight vayne without condemn.

Let's say I'm Yasuo instead. I can just E/windwall her Condemn, and E back if she pushes me away. I kill her, like how a melee carry should be a ranged one.

If she E's you during your Q, wait for the cd to come back up. It's shorter than her E. Then, go in again, hopefully baiting out her Q so you can hit your knock up. Then you have a few seconds to kill her before she gets Condemn back up.

Yes, but I have to lose one trade in order to be given an opportunity.

Apparently you don't know how much Vayne can do with her passive, W, and Q.

You think Aatrox is going to last 8 seconds while he's not hitting anything?

You think he's going to be able to run away?

You think he's going to be able to close on her?

Well if Vayne goes in on him he's pretty much dead.

Yes, if Vayne doesn't chase.

Yes, because Vayne only gets an MS boost when moving towards enemy champions, and Aatrox's possible ghost/Botrk/PD basically match Vayne's PD+some other crit item, while his slow and extra range account for Vayne's first Tumble.
