Here's how to buff Illaoi while also making her less frustrating to be against.

I've been playing Illaoi quite a bit on my main and smurf, and I h onestly think she's currently strong when picked into the right enemy comp, but Riot said they think she's weak and needs buffs while also lowering the frustration of being a vessel. So here are several suggestions (note: I'm not suggesting to implement them ALL, I'm saying these are several ways you could go about buffing her.)

  1. General buffs:
  • decrease the animation time it takes for Illaoi's tentacle to actually appear and be combat-ready

  • put an unkillable tentacle at all ally turrets and maybe make it so a tentacle spawns ontop of the rubble of any dead enemy turret. The reason for this is because she is WAY too easy to towerdive. She has no cc to defend herself, and if she is shoved under turret with any tentacles she spawns getting insta-killed, she has no way to stop a tower dive. This alone will stop any pros from picking her up in competitive where laneswaps and towerdives are common. The tentacle on dead enemy turrets will help her with what I think is her biggest strength, splitpushing.

  1. Illaoi's biggest problem is how much she's shut down by any lane opponent that is ranged since they can EASILY harass her and kill her tentacles from safety. This is especially bad if she is laneswapped on. A way to ease her lane vs range is to:
  • Make tentacles take 3 hits to kill from a ranged champion, 2 for melee

  • Slightly lower the mana cost of her Q, it's her only way to fight back from afar. Make it cost like 10 less mana.

  1. Ok so Riot needs to make Illaoi's vessel debuff not so frustrating to deal with, but they still want to make it something strong. Here is my new suggestion of the vessel debuff:
  • (buff) Still causes tentacles to spawn, and now twice as fast.
  • (nerf) Tentacles won't automatically swing at a vessel (this is the part that is frustrating for people to deal with) (the tentacles will still swing at pulled souls) BUT Illaoi's tentacles WILL swing at a vessel when she uses her ultimate
  • (buff) Illaoi gains additional effects when attacking someone marked as a vessel. Her healing when a tentacle hits a vessel doubles (5%->10% missing hp) and her W SUGGESTION1: slows them briefly or SUGGESTION2: refunds the mana cost and lowers the cooldown or SUGGESTION3: Makes all tentacles swing at the vessel 50% faster or SUGGESTION4: Tentacles hitting a vessel or the soul of someone already marked as a vessel will slow them.

Basically, give her some bonus effects for attacking a vessel. Something good enough to give up the auto-swinging tentacles.

Again I think she's pretty damn strong right now and am not suggesting everything to be implemented that I suggested. I am just giving out ideas that will keep her current strengths while maybe toning down how much she is hard-countered by ranged lane opponents and the frustration of her E debuff.

i don't like the vessel change. the tentacles attacking the vessel is huge, and it's a really cool mechanic, and they've already implemented a change that allows it to not last forever due to teammates stealing your tentacle kills.

what i think they should do is make it so that once a champion has become a vessel, they cannot become a vessel again for a certain period of time. this would fix the most frustrating issue when going against illaoi. she makes you a vessel, you have to back off and kill tentacles to un-vessel yourself, and then you go back in and she just yanks your soul out again immediately.

i think my favorite change that you suggested was ranged characters taking 3 hits to remove a tentacle. it's great, ranged characters are just too good at clearing them with no danger. wonderful suggestion.
