@Riot: Why can Sightstone not recharge its wards in the field?

Presently, I find Greater Stealth Totem to be better at keeping the map warded than Sightstone simply because you get a free ward every minute, and can hold up to 2. For a much cheaper price-tag than Sightstone, that's pretty unfair to supports, who have to keep recalling to get new wards when they're supposed to be sticking with their teammates.

Can something be done about this?

Maybe Riot could add a Shroudstone? Gives mana instead of health and gives the user a certain number of scans in the field that refresh on recall instead of wards?

Right now, supports are basically forced to get Sightstone, at which point they are expected to swap out for Sweeping Lens. There is no decision making and champions are being forced to buy items accordingly. Riot has stated before that they didn't want to make it so that a champ needed to get a specific item in their kit in order to operate. This item would allow supports the choice to upgrade their trinket to have the recharging wards while not compromising their ability to remove enemy vision as well.

While it is everyone's role to ward, supports tend to have the most vision control through both always having wards to drop and having a Sweeping Lens post-laning phase. This idea would reduce a support's ability to drop 3 wards on a moment's notice in exchange for the ability to sweep multiple key areas on a moment's notice.

I mean, I wouldn't buy it, but I trust this forum to honestly and critically tell me exactly why this idea is bad.

Hmm, that'd be kinda cool. Dunno if Riot would allow it, though.

The trinket gives greater in field duration to your vision, where as Sightstone gives burst coverage. It's not a huge difference, but it's one that has to be taken into consideration.

Not a big advantage when your whole team could just get several upgraded trinkets and burst-ward an area together.

True, but if they did not need those trinkets for warding they could be removing enemy wards instead. Perhaps Sightstone is no longer required with the new trinket, but it definitely still useful for it's particular role.

Get a new ward after you killed enemy ward?

Yeh sightstone seems pretty useless afther 9 when you could get a upgraded trinket for 250 lol

every greater stealth totem you get means one less sweeper tho

Maybe we need a sweeperstone?

Exact same stats as sightstone but holds charges of sweeper instead of wards (less charges obviously) and has a cooldown, let's say 2 on 90s for sweeperstone and 3+oracle effect on 45s for ruby sweeperstone.

This way you can choose between recharging wards or recharging sweeper.

I understand that but honestly sweeper is not that good plenty of times i used sweeper and didnt find a ward yet trinket will always ward

instead im just smiting chicken... and if i notice there are allot of wards everywhere than i will get sweeper bit if there arent that many il be much better of with my upgraded trinket

chicken smite buf is allot better than sweeper... only problem is dumb assed team mates who take the chicken

take wolves, take gromp take red take blue but for fuck sake stay away from my chickens

That's because nobody in your games wards, it looks like. If you ever play at a higher level (not even that high. You get matched with Bronze V-IIIs a lot, but I'm around Bronze I/Silver V and I hit wards all the time with sweeper), it will quickly become OP. Play for the ELO you want to be in. There's a reason nobody in the LCS buys yellow trinket.

Get a new ward on kill or assist perhaps?

This encourages your teammates to upgrade their trinket and actually ward too.

So tired of teammates putting down 3 wards a game and then complaining that the support (who can only have a max of three wards on the field) not warding enough.

Yeah, I hadn't thought of this but it is kind of a problem -- as a support, once I've dropped my 3 wards I only have one left, while as a mid with an upgraded totem, I can always have a ward when I need one.

I think this would be a good upgrade for Ruby sightstone believe it or not.

darkdill3 votes

It'd have to be for both Sightstone and Ruby Sightstone. Xypherous said they want RSS to always be a crappy upgrade so the support doesn't spend another 800 gold early game for vision.

Pryotra1 votes

It really wouldn't even be much of an upgrade, just something for late when battles are more frequent and there is less going back.

Just a thought really, though if that's really what it is, then why not just remove it?

darkdill1 votes

Because Ruby Sightstone is meant to make it so Sightstone isn't a crappy end-game item.

Pryotra1 votes

Then I think that this would be a good "end game" buff. With alot less backing in the late game, this "recharge" mechanic will allow you to stay out in the field and doing your job without needing to b.

darkdill1 votes

Xypherous himself said they didn't want to make Ruby Sightstone into something you had to get early because spending another 800 on vision (on top of the 800 you spend for Sightstone) is too much for supports.

Pryotra1 votes

But you wouldn't have to "get it early" with this. This literally is a pretty bad upgrade still, as early on you are backing frequently to buy items anyways.

BLU Medic1 votes

Perhaps you gain a new ward 30 seconds after one of your wards dies.

Also, Ruby Sightstone should allow you to place more than 3 wards.

3tyson1 votes

Thats true, but stil using the chicken buff to see if getting sweeper is worth

since wards are always worth
