There's really no reason not to. If you were to make the Impaler a melee-only item, then you can yield champions like Yasuo or Darius or Jax, etc... a reasonable purchase if they're looking for a more damage-oriented build via the armour/attack damage combination whilst at the same time avoiding the abuse case that is ranged champions from purchasing it to further gimp bruisers as a whole.

Sightless661 votesAtma's was never a problem on ranged champions, and it wasn't kept weak because of any problems with ranged champions. Bruisers were the abuse case for Atma's back when that item was strong. The metagolem and atmog's builds weren't things ranged champions used, they were things bruisers used. Atma's was a terribly designed item. Giving people scaling offense for other defensive purchases doesn't work unless it is a core part of a champion's kit. I'm all for adding an armor/AD item, but the Atma's HP-->AD passive needs to stay dead.
