Mana Support Item

I think it's about time whe provide the game with some more supportive mana items that are aimed towards ap supports. A item that champions like Blitzcrank & Zilean would like to use.

Here whe go:

  • Build out: item 3070 + item 3108
  • Cost: 700 + 820 + 680 = 2200 gold
  • Stats: +250 mana, +40 Ability Power, +12 Mana Regen per 5 seconds, 10% Cooldown Reduction
  • UNIQUE Passive - Mana Charge
  • UNIQUE ACTIVE: Grants a shield on an allied champion and restores 25% of his max mana. (180 second cooldown)
  • Name: Vigo Charger (suggest another name if you don't like it)

Old

  • Build out: item 3024 + item 3113
  • Cost: 950 + 950 + 550 = 2450 gold
  • Stats: +20 armor, +300 mana, +40 Ability Power, +6% Movement Speed, UNIQUE PASSIVE: +15% cooldown reduction
  • UNIQUE ACTIVE: Grants a shield on an allied champion and restores 25% of his max mana. (180 second cooldown)
  • Name: Vigo Charger (suggest another name if you don't like it)

id just like to see a support item that has a tear in it's build path

Well I was actualy thinking about item 3070 first. But I didn't include it because I remember somewhere that riot told us they don't like item 3070 on supports. But this was a long time ago. So maybe they changed their mind.

The the only problem with finding a new building for item 3070 is that the secondary item has to have cdr what currently limit you to item 3108item 3114item 3024item 3067item 3134 where currently only item 3108 would provide you with the ability power you need.

Currently item 3108 is already used on 9 items in normal (10/11 total). However it still look intressting since this would provide you with the to decide what you build out of it item 3174item 3092item 3165item 3060item 3023 or even item 3128 or item 3152. It would indeed further expand the options an AP support will have.

So yeah a item 3070 + item 3108 recipe could be really intressting

Agree. As you said item 3108 is used a lot though, and it's a damage item as well. What about something like item 3114 and item 3070? It would remove the AP requirement making it accessible to more champions, add some extra mana regen, and it costs less than a item 3108. Then you could possibly add a cool active to the item, such as mana gifting (like the old Soraka E)?

Wouldn't that be overkill? I mean you will be talking about a item that grants 1000 mana and 14-16 mana regeneration/5 seconds for a price arround the 2000 gold. By the time you finish the item you are already past the lane fase. Don't forget the item wouldn't provide any combat stats add all (offensive nor defensive). Just pure utility, for this reason I don't think whe would ever see the item get completed pre 30 minutes. And I don't think that's a concept that riot want to see on a item.

Also when you look add the 2 items:

  • item 3114 a utility item that is mostly build for the cdr spike in the midgame
  • item 3070 a item you want to build as soon as possible for the scaling in the lategame

Don't get me wrong. It's not a bad idea whe could give the item something like:

UNIQUE PASSIVE: When abilities hit allied champions they gain 5% of their maximum mana back.

But overal it would just become a hardcore sustain support item with nothing in it that would benefit a Blitzcrank.

When it comes to recept I think something like item 3070 + item 3067 would go more into your direction of your suggestion.

item 3003 More AP means better utility on abilities, more mana means I do it longer, and the shield with tank items means I'm rather hard to kill.

Support scale extremely well with CDR and regen. Max mana is irrelevant if you can go through a skirmish without running out. We already have two items with ridiculously high amounts of mp5 on them item 3222 item 3069.

Even on Blitzcrank you'll get more out of a Talisman/Crucible and a pile of Health.

Yes support scale great with cdr and benefit a lot from mana regen because their low cooldowns. However most of this style of playing came from season 2/3 back where the support where mainly used for placing wards. Now whe see a whole different story just think about Braum. O boy whe will see a lot more of these babies in the future. While their primary role is still the same they later make use of a secondary role. Think about Braum as tank, Karma as apc. The game of supports is slowly changing. Just think about the rise of Annie support on the start of season 4. Just think about Zilean he just spammed bombs all day. Now these bombs can actualy transform into something deadly.

Their are still supports that run into mana problems even when these 2 items combined. The 2 most common examples Zilean and Blitzcrank are probaly worth to mention but their are plenty other support that would love to adjust their build if a mana item becomes a option.

Like I aswered in a previous reply I was really thinking about item 3070 for this suggestion.

It doesn't matter who you are, you should be getting a Crucible (100% Mana Regen, 10% CDR, 40MR) at some point. Tank supports can also get Frozen Heart (100 Armor, 400 Mana, 20%CDR) .

Karma and Zilean support wouldn't build a Tear when Morello's (80AP. +100% Mana Regen, 20% CDR) is available at a fraction of the cost (2100g).

tl;dr: CDR is too good to pass up and there's already strong AP and tanky CDR/Mana alternatives. Max mana is useless without the regen to back it up (Tear only has 25% Mana Regen, 50% on Seraph).

I like the active of restoring your adcs mana, hate it when I burn my mana with the intention of basing soon only for my support to finally land his hook/grab/etc... and I can't finish the kill with my ultimate. Although to be fair maybe they won't get caught if I have mana.

CoolKnightST1 votes

Yes I felt really bad when they removed the mana recovery from Soraka. That's why I thought it might work when implementing it into an active.

i dont completely agree with the item you have composed here but i do think an item around the general understanding should be added, i always run out of mana way to quick on most supports. and i mean WAAAY to quick.

CoolKnightST1 votes

Yeah, with all this feedback I agrea that item 3070 + item 3108 might be a better suitable build for this item.

CoolKnightST1 votes

The only thing I'm currently worried about that it stat wise will start to look really close with item 3003.

Something wrong with Mikael's Crucible and Frozen Heart?

Clarity technically exists. As for an AP Mana item... well, Seraph's.
