After 30 games with "Fill" in dynamic Q I have to be honnest

Call it unlucky but I ended up "Support" every game. I fear the system need some change. Or add least promote people for taking the fill option so whe actualy get some diversity in the option "Fill".

Support is an unpopular role, so it makes sense that you'd end up with it a lot. Unfortunately, until more people start wanting to play support, you're gonna end up supporting a lot.

I agree with you; however, it would be nice if Riot did something to improve the process. WoW used to offer special bags with chances for rare drops for tanking/healing dungeons. I figure Riot could do something to increase key drop chances for playing certain "unpopular" roles.

lillanaa2 votes

As a support main, I definitely agree with that one. It is relatively quick to get into games if you're choosing support, though, so I guess that's a bit of an upside?

It doesn't help that Fill/Support Secondary being 24/7 Support has killed off all the people who didn't mind going Support every so often, making the pool of available players even smaller.

We've seen the problem get worse and worse as the Season goes on, Riot says they're working on changing it so it's not that way, but they're moving too slow and the damage might be permanent at this point.

Grashnim27 votes

I used to frequently support. However since the new system is support + x = support, most of the time I choose jungle/top, so my support contribution has severely fallen.

Another issue is that during champion selection, people would actually communicate and attempt to develop ideas when requesting roles. Now it's pure silence, which contradicts riot's working together philosophy.

Not if you play with friends like Riot really, really wants you to

lillanaa3 votes

Honestly, they could implement a system where if you're choosing fill then you can't get the same role more than 3-5 times in a row, same with getting your secondary that often. It'd definitely cut down on a lot of this, but I couldn't say how difficult that would be to code.

They are waiting for the taric rework, so that everyone wants to play support.

Lol why would you play him support? Not worth it... go play him top or jungle... let support go to the premades.

RamboDash154 votes

I agree, despite being a support main myself I often queue up with Top/Mid just to play something besides support. If I queue up with Mid/Support I know that the chances of me playing Mid are much lower than the chances of me playing Support

Tobias Brackner2 votes

What are you talking about? I still occasionally play Support. When I don't want to Support, I don't pick it

Randomonium2 votes

The only way they can reverse the damage is if they come out saying if you go support secondary or fill that you'll only get support a certain percentage of the time (I think 30% or less is a good number.) If they did that I'd consider going back to fill.

SanKakU2 votes

Yeah, I'm confused why you can't pick fill as primary and then something else for secondary or just fill again for secondary. Right now I think it's hard to tell how much different secondary is from primary, if it is at all.

I am support main, but I need to break the bonds of bronze hell to actually support and expect o win.

I think that, at this point, we can say that the "pick two roles" system has failed - it simply ends up in everyone's enjoyment being limited by the number of people who pick support or fill (which are pretty much synonymous now).

In the long run, we'll probably see Riot either switch to a priority list (where you can order the roles in terms of your preference, possibly with a guaranteed cap on the number of times you'll have to play each position - putting support third, for example, makes the system place you support no more than 4 times in 20 games or so) or simply incorporate support into everyone's role selection - a la "Pick three, one of which is always support".

They could have solved this by allowing those who pick Fill to selet a role which they do NOT want to get. For example, Fill except Support

CoolKnightST11 votes

Won't solve it, everyone will add the except support option.

CoolKnightST6 votes

An much easyer solution would be that you can decide your primary role but your secondary role would always be fill. When playing with a party the primary role of your party members takes priority of your secondary role. It would also bring a little back of the solo Q feeling back since you actualy would have to be able to play more than one role to be successfull.

OR, stay with me now, make support ACTUALLY a fun and impactful role as to garner more interest and increase the player base.

Grashnim12 votes

Once in a blue moon I'll get something other than support (absurdly rare). However, I swear, in half of those games someone ends up dodging, so the next time the queue pops I will get support.

Velasan9 votes

The real question is whether these systems are so bad, or they become bad because the player base abuses them.

Would dynamic que be so awful if more people were team oriented and picked support or didn't troll in premades? Probably.

Would all the tank ekko/akali whatever be so bad if not everyone played them because they were flavor of the month? Probably not.

The problem is with the role of support itself.
Crap gold income.
Can't touch anything out of fear of KSing or CS stealing.
Low healing numbers because assassins hate to have their combos ruined, and Riot is totally into TONS of damage.) OP bruisers doing massive amounts of damage with HP items and melee / high mobility mages destroying whole team comps with smart play.

Then you got simple 'ol Sona just shooting out a power chord every once in a while and using flash for her "high mobility" plays.

More mages are becoming supports because they can KS the ADC and contribute greatly late game as a damage and CC specialist.

ZeeWolfZ7 votes

Support is a boring and an ungrateful role. No matter what you do as support your teammates do not notice because you are expected to do your job right.

Nobody runs around screams "BEST SUPPORT!!!", they are more wowed by "double kill by Ezreal".

Nobody gives a fuck how many skills you blocked, how many thresh hooks you landed, because they will notice the two you missed.

The fact that you are always 5+ levels behind and never finished build is not pleasant.

Immortal spax4 votes

Expect the boring part, its all true, but actually we dont mind about the glory, because of we did, we all will be choose Mid.

Btw, if yoy think supp is boring, try to play Blitz or Bard, even if you lose its awesome.

Hullabaloo9074 votes

Bards too much fun. I literally stop caring about winning at all about 15 minutes it and only care about taking people on magical journys

Akeydel2 votes

i must be an outlier, i recieve far more compliments on my support play than anything else. then again im so much worse in every other role that i never earn compliments

Mobility Power2 votes

i agree somewhat, the level disadvantage is my biggest annoyance. also- i get noticed a lot when i play someone who makes plays like thresh, but only because i will literally push to your tier 1 turret and flash hook in an L form to avoid creep wave if you are blue. and throw lantern and kill your ass.

I am a Supp main. System so busted not even i want to select Supp or Fill XD.

That and community getting more toxic this Season.

And i know its busted when i select ADC first, and friend picks Supp first. But gives me Supp. And ADC to friend (cause fill) while i had Supp second XD (rito pls, cracked me up so freaking hard).

Hullabaloo9075 votes

I'm a support main, and I don't even bother queing for support. I just go fill

Fovere3 votes

Personally I enjoy support. Compared to ADC and many top lane match ups it can be a lot more interesting early game than sniping down as many minions as possible.

It's a flexible role that allows you to bring a variety of skills / utility in to help complement your team, and you have a lot of in game decision making in terms of when and how to roam, ward, etc.

As for dynamic queue. It's forcing everybody to place one way, where previously we had 3.

Premade groups (not talking teams) inherently destabilize gameplay, due to the increased potential disparity in skill, you now not only have to worry about individual skill but also team focus, ability, and psychology. You are making an already difficult task (accurate matchmaking) virtually impossible

Are3 votes

When you fill, they should allow the second option to negate a role.

But as a support main, I enjoy knowing I'll get my primary 97% of the time.

Only Play Darius2 votes

Look on the bright side. If you're a support main you can start matchmaking faster as you can just pick "fill" and only need to pick one role as opposed to two.

CoolKnightST2 votes

The problem is competive speaking you will need some games on solo lanes too. Ones role is far to risky.

I was Lupxel2 votes

Because people (like you) don't "like" support. So nobody goes support. So when you go fill you get support, as nobody wants support. Nothing strange here...

AATTRROOXX2 votes

They just need to provide ip/rp/hextech gains for less 'supported' roles. It would fix matchmaking times significantly.

InHaruhiWeTrust2 votes

after 30 games of fill in normal blind pick I have to be honest. I ended up "support" every game... call it unlucky, but for some reason the statistically least picked role was always left over. i fear the system needs change.

Arcane Azmadi2 votes

The problem is that, in solo queue, support is the worst role, hands down. It always has been and it always will be. You're putting yourself ENTIRELY in the hands on your (usually worthless) teammates because support is the only role that literally cannot carry (unless you pick a "support" like Zyra and then take farm and build straight AP, in which case you're not a fucking "support" are you?). And this is me speaking as a support main. Picking support means rolling the dice and hoping that your team isn't shit, because if they ARE shit then there's NOTHING you can do about it (you can't support idiots because they don't know what to do with it: you throw the Lantern out for them, they ignore it and die; you stun the enemy that's about to kill them to give them a chance to escape, they take that as their cue to turn around and reengage and then die; you desperately try to get to them to heal them, they run away from you and die; you ward the river brush, they don't even bother looking and get ganked by the jungler THROUGH the ward and die).

Supreme Senpai691 votes

Most of my deaths come from staying with my ADC after I see the enemy jungler coming and ping them to fall back a dozen times but they don't listen. If you leave them "wtf support you let me die" but if you stay with them "enemy double kill!"

V The Support V2 votes

Irony? Can't tell you the number of times I don't get my preferred support role.

Team up with a friend I Choose: Supp#1 Fill#2 He chooses: ADC#1 Fill#2 We enter the lobby I get ADC and he is placed Supp.....

You don't want to be Support every game.

Yet you still pick Fill.

The problem is the support role itself...it either needs to be rewarded / buffed or gotten rid of.

Id rather two junglers and three solo lanes personally.

Crokinole Ace1 votes

Why is support such an unpopular role? Is it the gold/xp starve that makes it so bad, or the relatively railroaded item build path (sightstone, mobi boots, locket, frozen heart...)?

Supreme Senpai691 votes

It's sorta a combination of a few things.

  1. Everything is your fault, land 9 thresh hooks but if the 10th misses your team will call you on it. Die to save your ADC and you're feeding, etc.
  2. You have such little gold, and the gold you have goes to your support item, sighstone, and boots. Lucky to get any items after that so every game feels the same imo.
  3. You're always behind in levels because of roaming, inability to farm, and warding. You don't feel as powerful because of this and a lack of items. You can rarely 1v1 anybody, and in some cases, it doesn't matter how well you do. Land a thresh hook, cool, but your team has to be the ones to follow up on it. Make an amazing play to save your jungler but they can just go right back in and die.

Basically, a lot of people just find it not fun at all.
