Why I gave up on support and switched to carry

Mira Arya Enthe··141 votes·9,304 views

Just a little point to Riot, on why SOME will never play support. I will cover this with three main points. Because I LOVE support, I play it in many games and enjoy the concept. I play priests and medics and utility mages and engineers and on and on. However, I just... cannot play it anymore here.

1: The support is helpless. If you are caught alone, you are dead. If you are a tank support you can only hope your HP lasts until you run to safety, if you are a healer support you are straight up dead. But more so, you are helpless to save the game. If I play a mage like Brand, I can singlehandedly win fights, not on rare occasions with superb outplays, regularly and easily. If I play Riven top I can easily make the enemy team rage quit. And if I play a jungle tank I can still do tons of damage while building pure tank. As a support, if my mid and top feed. I can do zip. I have zero carry potential. Now don't get me wrong, I understand supports are there to support their team, not to carry. But the problem with this is, is that it results in an atmosphere where you are putting in all your efforts into making somebody else look good and praying they carry you. If my support and ADC feed however, and I am Riven top, I can still go TP gank bot lane and get a double. Tilting the advantage and causing the enemies to lose confidence. Help myself snowball and carry harder. I have the power to mold my own destiny.

2: The supports are becoming more and more symbiotic. I hate this. It was bad enough with things like Leona's passive or Taric's old heal. But more and more Supports are being molded so they have no scalings, their tools are all shaped to help the ADC and they are helpless alone. There is a problem, besides limiting build diversity and invention of new metas(Morg was not originally meant to support for example). You are taking away the potential for supports to have awesome tools of their own, that just happen to be more utility and support oriented, and instead making it so they are literally just an attachment of the ADC. This is... insane, at some point you will cross a line, where basically supports might as well just have no character on the field and just push buttons to buff, heal and defend the ADC. Like I get it, that is the support's primary role early game. But it worked just fine without all their abilities being molded around doing only that. We want our own, fun and cool utilities. That just happen to be good for supporting and utility. Originally, a support existed not because their ability said "Only works within 100 units of the ADC" it was because they had low gold requirements, good utilities and perhaps a sustain skill. We don't need to be hand crafted velvet pillows to carry the ADC on.

3: There is no reward for picking the least desired role. "Support: 50% faster queue". Yet what do we get? Nothing, we don't get any independance, no rewards, nothing special. We just get dumped further and further into being a ward jockey ADC slave than ever before. If I pick the least desired role in WoW I get bonus gold, I can actually carry my raid through superb healing and tanking, and I am not helpless alone. Plus my character is not a symbiotic attachment to the tank, all my utilities, heals, skills and damage work just fine when alone. I just specialize in healing raids. In LoL? I get told "I was awful for going 0/3" of course leaving out the 35 assists. And the fact that without me the fed Vayne wouldn't have gotten fed to carry us to victory.

Ideas: As for me, I am permanently giving up support. I use to play it primarily, gave it up once. Tried to get back into it recently. Nope. Another lost support. But for those still strong enough to tough it out, here are some ideas for Riot.

Give special rewards for getting assists, if you choose the support role, possibly even make assists appear first. And give supports more special interactions and mechanics based on assists. The same way carries get for kills.

Give supports more independance. We don't need tailor made abilities that might as well read "Take me instead" or "Praise the mighty ADC". That doesn't make a support. Morgana is considered a great support, and ALL of her abilities were made to work fine for herself, as she was originally meant to be a mid mage. I do enjoy some support focused mechanics like Thresh's lantern, but heck, at least he can use it as a shield for himself if alone. Just give us FUN and strong utilities, that are generally good for support. And make it so we are less gold heavy, so support is still optimal for us.

Give supports more ability to carry their team through excellent supporting. And I don't mean getting your ADC a couple kills so they get fed. I mean so that even if our team is behind and underfed, Soraka or Janna don't become next to useless other than a free kill with some peel. There are a few supports that can carry through supporting, but they are usually ones who weren't designed as supports, like Blitz who was originally a bruiser who ended up working well as a support.

Make more flashy and cool supports. Who do visually awesome things and have large, impactful spells. There are a couple, but it should be the normal, not the exception. It is perfectly possible to look awesome even if you aren't dealing damage or raking in kills.

Rant over.

EDIT: Since I doubt anybody here cares about MMOs, let me use another Moba as an example.

When I play Tyrande or Uther or Auriel. I do not feel like I am a helpless attachment to one specific carry with no power of my own. But regardless I am STILL fully a support character. I'm just not a LoL support... Mind you, I still vastly prefer LoL over Heroes.

I most definitely agree. My primary support is Lulu, and while I know that I'm doing a lot by buffing my ADC, I don't ever feel like I'm accomplishing anything unless I save someone with a well timed ult, nothing else feels really impactful, even though the 40 assists at teh end of the game will speak wonders.

Morg is pretty much the only support I play because she can fill in any role as needed. Soraka, on the other hand, is joined at the hip to teammates until very late game (which you really shouldn't be hitting if either team is skilled enough to keep the advantage). To be fair, I haven't unlocked the more effective supports because I prefer to support by pressuring unoccupied lanes and overpowering the opponent.

And then you play support and the feeding Fizz tells you " you only play support cause you suck at every other lane"....

Or the Ashe that you helped carry all lane then dies once while solo farming and says "I AFK nobody helps me, good luck".

Being support is super frustrating cause you just have the least impact, no matter how many name bubbles or janna tornados you land, its always " your 0/4" rather than " well done having 14 assists (0/4/14).

Common theme I am seeing "If you don't like the current state and design of supports in the game, it's probably just not the right role for you." Obviously, not for 'anybody'. The Queue times prove this. 'Nobody' wants to play support. And I play it in loads of other games, healers, utility mages, engineers, medics. But in these other games, they make you feel far more impactful, independant, less helpless and more valuable all around.

I love playing support, not because i cant carry or things i can always pick heimer and carry the game with 10/0/2 but the satisfaction i get when my adc gets kills early game and carries the game is really good, and i honestly think supps dont need any changes epart maybe some tank cdr items(sry for bad english)

You havent played heimer in ranked in 2015 and normals doesn't count because normals is filled with rookies

I really identify with your post. I think a lot of support mains have the same feelings as you.

A lot of my friends are ex support mains, Season 6 has not been all that kind to us. I'm starting to see way more FoTM abusers and Annie/Brand supports with ignite that do not build support items or Sightstone. I've also gotten a ton of adds in games where I only preformed adequately as support, and people tell me that they haven't had a good support in a while.

I don't think the community wants to talk about the problems with the support role either. The assassin rework is much flashier, and for the vast majority of players, that is where the concern is. People love their high damage carries but forget supports need love too. I don't care so much about player attitude, there's only so much you can do to remedy that. But Riot needs to start taking us a little more seriously.

I firmly believe damage creep is what really made it rough for supports. You need to do damage in this game to be effective, and the damage you do is usually build dependent, which requires you to farm and or get kills. Everything does way too much damage now, and those of us in lower ELO feel the effects of that times ten. It's already about who can get the most kills, and why didn't I have an S+ for 15 kills with crappy farm and no wards.

When I look at games in higher ELO, it looks like a totally different game. I think it's a big reason why we might not be the most unified community either. Disengage and sustain is valued and hated. However in lower ELO it's not as great because there's always a fight happening. Players are always dying.

That's why we're seeing problems with people getting support, but not playing it. People are going to say the support role is fine, but I think it's problematic when people don't respect the support role. Our quiet influence on the game is part of the reason, but not all of it.

The support role did not age well in this game, and the cracks have really started to show in Season 6. I don't think Riot can keep putting a band-aid over this role each year. It's definitely time to take a real and honest look under the hood and bring the support role up to date. Our gameplay seems a lot more shallow and limited when compared to other roles, so maybe they can look at tweaking little things to make the role more complex and rewarding. It does not feel like it works out as well as other roles currently. Lately I've only been liking the idea of support, and I might just switch roles again.

The biggest issues I see with the support role is scaling and a lack of independence. There's more, but if there could be some kind of balance there I would be so happy. I wish Riot would take the support role as seriously as they do the other roles. It always seems like we're an after thought. The eye items were nice, but ultimately not enough. The actives are way too good to give up currently. We're also in a meta where games are called early anyways, and supports rarely make full build. Slot efficiency is not what we need.

I like your ideas overall, even though I might not agree with all of them. It's just nice to see somebody talking about this issue. If the game keeps going the way it's going I don't think there will be many support mains left.

Playing support is like being a waiter with s------- tips.

Head Chef making really bad food? Can't do much.

Customers complain about some random s------? Compensate, mitigate, but can't do much.

Management not efficient?

Best choice then, is to quit.

Tentacle Advisor11 votes

Honestly, this is a very good example of what the problem is. Damage Creep. Champions and Items have/provide way too much early game spike damage that supports have a hard time keeping up with.

Sure, I can peel the enemy jungler off of my adc when they try to surprise gank them with cc of their own, but now I have the Youmu's Jhin to worry about. Even if I peeled the Youmu's Jhin off, I still have the jungler (who is probably Rengar or Kha'Zix if going off Silver Elo picks) to worry about.

There is just way too much damage in the early game right now and Support players cant keep up. (This is not counting the Damage Mage "Supports" like Brand and Annie, as they aren't actually "Supports".) A Support needs time to get passive gold/items to be truly relevant, but it isn't easy getting there because damage creep spikes games way too early nowadays.

I can wholeheartedly say that I have not given up on being a Support Main, and I probably never will, but I can say that since the beginning of Season 6, supporting has become very very frustrating.

To be fair, I remember the days when Mid Morg was a perma ban every day for almost 2 years straight from season 1 to mid season 2. They nerfed her to the ground, she came back again because people figured out how to play her with the nerfs and then got ANOTHER nerf to the ground ontop of the first nerf. Then players started playing her as support and BAAM GOT ANOTHER NERF. Like this girl doesnt get a break .

Ipressbutton8 votes

Support is the only role were the fun you have playing it is directly correlated to how well your teammates are doing. Add to that recent balance decisions over the last two seasons leading to a more snowbally game and it's no wonder it's the least desired role- a Janna cannot carry a game if your adc can't position properly etc.

Phoquelesanimaux8 votes

The game doesn't reward the support at all.

  • Carries have stuff like "Pentakill" "Legendary" etc. Supports have nothing except "gj ADC".
  • Oh you roam, gank, invade and get many kills for your team ? Too bad you lost so many xp ! Now you're behind in levels...
  • Your teammates play like shit ? Too bad you can't do anything about it ! Just save the ass of your useless ADC who can't farm until ff20. So much fun !

I main support but the only pleasure I get is gained from myself, since the game doesn't give a shit about me. Riot really needs to do something about it.

The Fuzzy 0ne7 votes

Maybe I'm one of the few who think this, but I actually love "symbiosis" as you call it. I feel like it opens the door to a lot more plays providing utility to all of your team and not just your ADC.

However, I do understand that a lot of people really don't get what support is supposed to bring to the team and , being a support main myself, I have encountered this since the very beginning. And it is super frustrating when you set a teammate up for a beautiful play and let's say they get the quadra... no one will ever say "wow great play support!" And that's maybe why there aren't as many support mains out there... it's a thankless role that very few people understand at low elo

Why am I not surprised that everyone here that actually plays and understands the support role as it is intended to be played is getting downvoted to hell.

Guess it makes sense considering the kind of people who would agree with a (the OP) Bronze support's interpretation of "what's fundamentally wrong with the role I play" in an ELO where both teams have no concept of objective control or vision control.

The only reason I've ever felt helpless as a support is in a game where the other four members of my team are completely braindead and refuse to follow up with any of the vision I set up or the calls/pings I issue. And, last time I checked, I feel the same way in that situation on any other role, so it has little to do with "Oh poor me I don't do damage so I can't win my team the game".

Contrary to popular belief, support has one of the highest skill ceilings of all roles, and is absolutely a role where the players who are truly good at it will shine more than anyone else, and it will be glaringly obvious to anyone with a good head on their shoulders and a legitimate understanding of the game when a great support makes things happen. People who think that they are there "to handhold the ADC through the entire game" and that's it, are truly ignorant.

Well in that case at least they are still somewhat useful as bait while you split push if you have a champion which can do that (so not a support probably)

I read through this whole post and it touched closed to home. I agree with bits of several posts and disagree with just as many.

For the main poster, I know how you feel. I main support and I switched to Tahm Kench because all the others I was playing couldn't keep up if the other team power spiked. At least with Tahm I can keep people from dying quite as fast by eating them. I played a healing druid in Wow and was very good at it. I love being a support character, but it is hard in this game unless you have a decent team.

So yes, maybe by some of your logic support doesn't suit me and maybe I should try something else. Unfortunately I am stuck in Bronze where team cohesiveness doesn't exist, strategy doesn't exist, and three of the five lanes are trying to carry themselves out even if it means screwing the rest. I don't feel like I 'don't suit' the role. I just feel like I can't keep up with the tremendous amount of dumb I encounter in a game.

I don't think supports need any in game help, because once you get out of Bronze and Silver they are actually accepted as a good role. I don't think Gold and higher players are embarrassed to say they main support. However, some sort of outside-the-match incentive would be nice. Something to remind you that the game noticed that you played well and helped your team, despite a glaring loss.

"Supports shouldn't get kills." In general, yes. This is true. A good score for a support by that logic then is 0/0/20 or something. I challenge any of you who think like that to prove it is possible. Usually when I am nice good support I go 0/4/9 like my last game, or say 'screw it' and start taking the kills that my team seems to not be able to pick up. Either way at the end of the game it looks like you suck.

"The whole point is to support others" I have heard similar lines in actual games. It's not like I go into games and say 'oh today I am going to pick butterflies'. I know I am support. I picked it. I know my job is to support others. I am perfectly okay with it. Despite my best attempts though, a lot of the time I can't save my teammates from their own lack of skill. I can't speak for any others, but I don't like this line of reasoning.

"Don't do it in a flashy way". Nope you don't that is true, and sometimes I personally have to play games in other lanes so that I can at least feel like I get my flashy quota. However, more often than not (at least at my level) the support isn't thanked. It doesn't even feel like the team really noticed that you set up a teamfight, or saved the crap out of three team members at once. It is expected. It is almost required. At the end of the day though, people at my level don't remember any of that. 0/4/13 ahahahahahaha support you suck.

"Maybe you are just a bad support" if those of us who like doing it are always told we are bad. Then who will support? I dare anybody of this thought line to play 25 support games in a row.

I understand where you are coming from. If I play Soraka, it doesn't matter if I dump my entire health bar into the ADC, if they keep trying to 1v5 (or 2v5 since I'm healing them), there is nothing I can do to help turn the game in our favor since the ADC is going to keep doing whatever they want. At least as mid I can try to focus out the squishies so that even if our ADC is doing bad, I can still remove the enemies ADC/APC so we have a better chance of winning. As a support, it doesn't matter if I flash and lock down the ADC if no one follows up on it.

I had a game where all lanes were losing. They were in our base probably within 20 minutes. I was playing Brand and had 8 of 10 kills for our team since the enemy team was focusing the rest of my team and me trying to peel was getting kills. Even though I had some gold, there wasn't much I could do since I was still an underfarmed mid basically. Yeah, I had the most damage of our team, but since it was such a short game, there wasn't time for my team to get a chance to out damage me.

Obviously every person in the game needs the team to help them win, but supports really need their team. I've had games as Soraka where I am literally running around at the minimum health from her heal and it's only after killing my entire team that they focus me. Focus Soraka is one of those Lol rules like don't chase Singed, so if I'm running around at minimum health and the enemy team decides to focus everyone else instead of me, there's nothing I can do to help. I can't even bait them if they are just focusing my team.

As a Support main on various Mobas and a primary healer on MMOs, I agree.

In fact, on Heroes...the support is actually the first target...Heroe players fear the power a support has.

MMOs, players try to eliminate the healer so the opposing PvP team has no heals coming in...and trust me...We healers are a menace in MMOs.

Its only league where I get toxicity from teammates, pathetic support items, lack of solo capabilities, and a general disregard from Rito of any improvement in support strength.

Lulu is a good example...she was a great support until Rito needed her into the ground because her solo capabilities became to op (supposedly)...

My idea, make a blasted champ whose abilities change when allies are near...like, when alone...he has one set for pure offense...when surrounded by his team (or just one ally XD), he has a different kit that balances offense and supportive capabilities.

This post really hit me in the feels. This is my very first post in the forums but I had to put my 2 cents in on this one. Although I may not agree with everything OP says I do agree that playing support feels like it does not reward your hard work enough. Let me explain, I am a former support main myself as I play support/utility on literally every MOBA and MMO I've ever played. I enjoy everything there is about being a support/utility role player but I just can't exactly put my finger on why League of Legends turned me off to their support system. I have since turned into a Nasus main and have been loving it ever since BUT my heart still lies in the support role and when I read this post it brought up those old feelings for wanting to help a ADC do well in lane then take that support to the team come grouping phase of the game.

Here are some things that affect me personally and why I quit playing support on a regular basis in ranked (Please note I said me this may or may not apply to everyone) maybe by writing my thoughts on support and why I quit it can help others out feeling the same way and progress for changes because I would LOVE to be able to support in League again.

  1. As I said earlier the support role for me feels like I am not being rewarded enough for playing just as hard as everyone else. When I make fantastic plays and land hard cc on a enemy in lane and my ADC action is just walking up and blowing some cooldowns for the kill I get almost NONE of the credit and while yes that also takes skill that particular kill was initiated by me the support. After the kill even if the team says ''gj bot'' the ADC automatically thinks bot means him/her and only him/her (hell even in matchmaking the role is not called ADC its called bot). I after reading this post played a support ranked game went 0/1/19 as Morgana controlled my lane and initiated kills with some killer binds I had to gloat on those binds just to get ANY recognition from my team and even then their attitude was ''ya I guess you did, good job doing your job'' . I could have just as easily said ''good job adc on doing your job'' in a sarcastic way but for some reason I am wrong and the adc is right EVERYTIME.....every damn time. This extends out of lane if I pull off a killer roam mid for example same attitude ''ok support now go back to your lane that was 95% me'' This may not be how you guys feel but I get this vibe from my teammates when I go out of my way to help win lanes and ultimately the game. Also if you make a mistake good god do I get so much flak/flame/salt whatever you want to call it times 10 you almost have to play a perfect game as support.

  2. To the OP's point a lot of the new support champions (or reworks) and items are meant to be shared with a single person more times than not your teams adc. Now this is working exactly as intended by riot and I have no complaints about it mechanically but I do not like this play style AT ALL. I have been playing since early 2011 and I don't remembered supports being so reliant on another person to even justify the support being on the rift. I do remember the supports slowly but surely being stripped of its independence through items and ability changes/nerfs. At a certain point it got to be too much and made the role itself a lot less fun and desirable to play for me (again for ME others may enjoy this play style). Yet I see more and more people counter this by playing AP mages bot and are basically being another mid laner in a duo lane I myself tried this and found it to be underwhelming damage wise and simply not worth it unless I rob the adc of creep score. I will give credit to Riot by trying to introduce more damage items to supports but even then it isn't enough.

In the end for me I like feeling rewarded for doing well in anything I try hard to master in League be it creep score, kills, successful ganks, etc and supports simply don't offer that right now and that's why I quit support and took on the role of a raid boss in Nasus. No play in the world as a support will feel as rewarding as 1v3 or 1v4 as Nasus and that happened only because I stacked right and fed off my enemy laner. Trying hard at these mechanics as Nasus rewarded me with being a monster to deal with come team fights, trying hard at the support mechanics rewards me with team gratitude? hah no....gold?...not really...ability to 1v3? hell I can barely 1v1 so no...oh I know the S+ at the end...wait no....ummmm at least my assist total looks nice and I didn't feed!

I agree on the first; the double standards of respect are some of the most frustrating things about playing the role. But like you mentioned the support oriented champions have been nerfed repeatedly, which supports the main post about supports ending up helpless. However I agree it's nice to see players stick it to riot by playing non-support champions as supports. I'd suggest veigar support, he can stack like nasus; but with the mage update his stun is harder to land, but he still gets to scale up without taking farm.

I did not state supports were nerfed. Sona and Soraka are quite strong in the meta. The complaints lay in the fact that support champions like Janna, Soraka, sometimes Sona, Nami, Leona, Braum and others have a very low ability to turn a game in their favor. And due to damage and mobility creep are very helpless when alone.

Do not get me wrong. Supports DO help. But don't have game changing potential. Which makes it very hard for them to rank up on their own. It also has given them an excessively symbiotic nature, more and more they are tailored to be a beneficial tumor attached to the ADC. Making the role less appealing than it already was.

In a game like Heroes of the Storm if I play Tyrande or Auriel. I don't feel like a helpless attachment with no personal ability to make plays. And they are supports. League, mostly due to gold and itemization, but also due to the direction of new support designs and reworks. Has made supports feel pretty much like a sacrificial goat, offering up their happiness and ranks to fill a role almost nobody wants to.

ZT Xperimentor2 votes

"I do remember the supports slowly but surely being stripped of its independence through items and ability changes/nerfs." In the middle of your second point.

I still agree the role has been forcefully and systematically nerfed to the point next to no-one wants to play it. I barely play heros of the storm, so I'd have to look up what you're talking about; but yeah it's disheartening that riot's turned their backs on supports in such a hypocritical manner. I'm not saying their powerless, but if they get caught or abandoned then they can't really do anything because their items are pathetic and they're always behind in levels. I'm not surprised ques take longer, though I'm hoping the meta changes entirely because of it out of irony.

I prefer playing support over other roles, and I feel differently. Both teams have a player on their side that is disadvantaged in gold income, and learning to play effectively with these restraints--particularly when it comes to roaming/vision/general map control--can make a hell of a difference in the outcome of any given match. I'm just as content letting someone else carry provided that the other bases are covered.

TyrekGoldenspear3 votes

This hits really close.

I usually play Mid Brand, and I love being the carry, but recently I have gotten into the Support role with Taric .

I've supported before with Soraka , but I wasn't as skilled then and I didn't feel like I was contributing.

But when I play Taric, I am the support. I can aim my stuns, switch my Bastion links midfight and create a teamwide ult to win the teamfight or game. And nobody can tell Taric he didn't do anything. When he does something, you know he's done it. His abilities are so flashy you can't miss them. I've gotten a lot of complements from my team, thanking me for my good job as as support, and I even held a team afloat against a fed Yasou long enough for Yas to /all chat and say: Taric stop carrying so hard.

It's probably because I'm in SIlver, but people I play with have a solid grasp of teamwork, and that makes my job a lot easier. My ADCs almost never die on my watch, I keep my area warded all the way up to the river, and I'm not afraid of roaming mid to help out my midlaner.

I'm a Mid/Support main now, but that may change. maybe it's because I play a tanky support, but I never feel helpless with Taric.

Good points though, getting rewarded for assists would help a lot. Taric needs some pretty hefty items to carry late, and usually I fund my purchases with assist gold, but occasional rewards would really help.

Soraka relies a lot on her ADC Basically the best situation for Soraka is her ADC trading some and her healing them up and then repeating this which should win Soraka the sustain war most of the time as long as she hides in the back not taking too much damage and lands some Q's for healing

And Taric is pretty strong (his ult is insane though the delay can make it useless against assassins who pick instantly delete your carries) Taric might even kind of work as a top laner with his armor increase and he has some decent damage with the armor scaling on his stun and passive (and he can spam his Q a lot allowing him to use his passive a lot.... though it will use a lot of mana)

Sometimes it feels like it isn't worth ranking up Q at all... when maxed it costs 80 more mana but only heals 40 more health per cast (if you don't have stacks) Yes 40 health is a decent amount when spammed... but so is 80 mana as well (it goes from 60 mana to 140 mana) Maybe I should try keeping it at rank 1 even at level 18.... I really would do it as top lane Taric (as you need to spam Q to deal damage with the passive so the increased mana cost is a huge deal then.... but as support I don't think the increased mana cost is as bad?)

Thanks for the Banana Gal tips. :) I might play her again sometime.

As for Taric, leveling his Q second is worth it. Remember that it lowers the cooldowns and increases an AOE heal, so having it up more often is best.

Plus Taric has a pretty healthy mana pool, especially when he builds his frozen heart and what not to increase the pool.

I'm planning on even throwing Maramune/Triforce on Taric when we're ahead to abuse his Bravado damage.

Actually http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Taric Taric Q always has 15 seconds cooldown (though CDR is very effective because of the way it works with his passive)

Q rank 1 - 60 mana for 20-60 hp (20 hp when spammed for abusing the passive) Q rank 5 - 140 mana for 60-180 hp (60 hp when spammed)

So an extra 80 mana for 120 extra hp on the first cast and 40 extra hp on all the other casts (cooldown and HP/AP scaling is the same) I am not quite sure if it is worth it

W rank 1 - Passive 10% bonus armor and active shield 8% max health W rank 5 - Passive 20% bonus armor and active shield 12% max health

The passive gets twice as strong and the shield gets 50% stronger

I play support for those feelings when you're taric and give your whole team invulnerability and survive the fight with mostly max hp, or when you're bard and your chimes do 300 damage a toss plus you stun the enemy frontline together for funzies, OR when you're shen and get to save the whole team.

Moments like those man, love them. Mage supports are fun too of course when you get to cc and aoe the whole enemy team (ala brand, tali, annie)

Plus it's easy to get S on a support compared to other roles because as long as you secure a few kills (it's not stealing if you don't drop a kill on someone else to get it) and since you're warding all the time boom. Free S.

That and I just love those moments when I save someone just before they die and they thank me, best feeling in the world.

Hate being against lanes like morg quin, I was bard and my friend was ashe. My friend is not very good at league so she gets hit by morg q easily, thing is morg hits q once and you're dead with a quin around soooo....

Yeah she died under tower like 7 times instantly, I couldn't do anything to save her and we lost. Sucked.

Next time try playing Braum with Ashe or Thresh... I find Braum is very good at stepping in to protect an immobile ADC like Ashe so you can jump to her (jump automatically positions you in front of them) and take the morg q with your shield up and reduce all the dmg coming at you. Plus you're tankier so you should survive.

blind pick suuuuuucks man. EDIT: also I'm poor and don't have braum, he's next on my list though.

Thats is why I love being the medic in Team Fortress 2. Healing is great and all but knowing when to activate the Ubercharge to make the last push is a work of art.

The general problem is that supports are very strong in LCS. With a team, who practice 24/7 supports can do miracles.

However, what about solo supports?

Actually I enjoy playing supports, you don't need to focus on last hitting, and can harass enemies all the time. It is so easy to push out the enemy adc from the lane if you get a decent adc. If you don't, well supports also have an interesting option, you can move to support the best player in your team. Yes, there is always a best player in every team, and making them even stronger is a game winning. Some adcs complain about it, but if they are bad I don't care. Learn to play first before complain.

I've gotten fed up after maining support too. Really, it's not just support bot lane in general is suffering. Most adcs feel like a free kill without a support nearby and vice versa. Quicker games really undermine the purpose of an adc. Most times, as support or adc, I feel like the game is in the hands of top and mid. Soo many games the early advantage is seized when one of these lanes get their early lead and then TP/Roam into a four bot play that usually leads to a race for first tower then a follow up dragon bait/fight/kill when bot lane respawns.

I really think this game is waiting to see a ridiculous change in bot lane. Early damage and just the amount of Kled/TF/Shen/Zac/Kench style mobility plays have really made it difficult to wait for a bot lane that is mostly useless until the game is already decided.

I agree. I stopped choosing support after getting it 80% of the games I picked fill.

Funny thing is I still let people know that I'm "fill" on normal blind games and I only get support some of the time but in ranked it's all the time under the new system. I won't touch the fill button or the support button. It's a big flaw in the game that no one wants to address. I've posted before about my thoughts so I'm not going to rehash everything but I do agree with most of what is in the OP.

I concur! Number 2 has been a slow creep over the years, but number one has been suddenly and repeatedly shoved in our faces. Pretty much why I've gone back to playing top lane, I've even been playing some middle lane & jungle even; whenever I feel like the game is worth playing.

I qued up as fill and got bot yesterday with another support main. We both played support characters. Two sightstones and we lit up the map with wards. You could see EVERYWHERE. We both had ward finders so we could clear an entire quarter of the map of the enemy wards. We took our tower first... I realized I forgot how to last hit. It was good times. (edit: I sold my sightstone later because we were winning and bought some weird items I've never tried before just because I could)

Then the next game I was back with the retarded attack speed first adc who can't do any damage, fails to engage on every stun and opening I create, attacks the tank (like seriously, if i'm hitting him it's to get the gold generation off of it so I can get that sightstone), and I'm like hurry up and die so I can take the kills. Then in the team fights they feel the desire to clear all of the minions before engaging on the champions.

WORST feeling ever is stunning the enemy team and fighting with the ganking jungler and the adc is one little screen away farming oblivious to what is happening within their auto attack range because they have screenlock on and can't read a minimap.

There's no supporting that.

Tahm Kench seems to go against 1. and 2. Just saying. (Too bad they absolutely ruined him). He was one of my mains top lane.
