"if it aint broke lets break it" -riots design philosophy since pre season 6

since pre season 6 riot has been making seriously questionable choices. changing items that have been put into a healthy state just to put them in a broken state.

making changes to masteries that were carefully crafted to not have one tree be too strong while also making each tree have choices to help you with a speicific playstyle or matchup. just for the new masteries to litteraly warp the entire game and to have champions balanced entirely balanced around their interaction with a single keystone.

changes to slightly under preforming or over preforming champions that anyone could tell would put the champion in a problematic state where in most cases a small numbers tweak or meta shift would put them back into place.

removal of green wardsitem 3649 and tricket upgradesitem 3361 item 3362 because low elo dint use them enough????? not to mention pink wards hp being lowered just so jhin wouldnt spend ages clear it insted of just making jhins last shot do two damage to it..

and the cherry ontop has to be riots unwillingness to go back on any of their changes fully on just about anything regardless of what the change resulted in...

The ward changes was actually an anti-snowball feature.

What used to happen was the team that was ahead obviously had more gold so they could afford more wards. Their Support could also afford an Oracles Elixer which is pretty much a red trinket with 100% up time. The team that was ahead had control of the map and would sweep out any vision you had with their Oracle's.

tl;dr The team that was ahead had vastly superior vision control and there was nothing you could do about it

So they changed it so the team thats ahead can't bombard the map with perfect vision while completely denying yours

That's true.

But then again, Riot just introduced us with a different and arguably more vicious kind of snowball called the Keystones.

item 3147 is pretty disgusting though too. What should be a "They won't see me gank their lane because I am an assassin" is now a "Lol sorry were you trying to ward your jungle?" The item should just prevent wards from seeing you, not let you destroy wards

So now neither team has good vision, while having basically none early.

I'd always come back to lane with 2-3 wards, to not suddenly get caught in a 1v3 or 1v4. Now I can't even sustain vision in one brush.

The point is that in the past you had to earn the snowball. Now it comes naturally and you can't do shit about it.

You actually have pretty good vision early because everyone still has their green trinkets

Sraeg20136 votes

You're kidding right?

You can't buy wards and the trinket gives you one ward every 3 minutes, and lasts for only 1 minute.

33% vision uptime in one bush OP?

Spoofghoul1 votes

yea maybe, but now the same thing is happening with turrets

they wipe all your out with one sneeze and you can't touch theirs cos retard minions

Eh... seems to have helped snowballing more than anything. The winning team now has the stats to not worry about going into areas without vision while the losing team is even more gimped. The change was target agnostic which means that the winning team still has the upper hand in the vision game.

Chogath If it IS broke, let it rot and simmer for a while

chogath was actually at a fairly decent point. He was tanky as all get out, but with that build his damage was also fairly limited and his crowd control slow to enact

he could maul someone if they were squishy (which is one reason I liked him as a bottom mage support before this mage support thing became the absolute meta XD) but most of the time he was picked because he was decent enough to serve as a poke tank and survive in a fight while temporarily neutralizing at least A target with his silence

This game would be so much better if Riot would just admit that they fucked up and fix the problem, directly buff the weak and nerf the broken champions

Sexy Jack Rabbit6 votes

I don't think the balancing team has any idea what they are doing right now tbh. They want to buff ADCs, so they buff Lethality. Literally only about 4 build it at this point.

Agree with statement about Riot, disagree with vision. Eedat covers it spot-on in his response.

Sraeg20131 votes

Eedat's comment covers only a fraction of the whole picture.

Yes, you can't deny the enemy vision while snowballing, but you can't have enough vision to prevent or lessen the snowball in the first place.

You've got that completely backwards. They removed them because they thought "there's too much vision and not enough fog of war" AKA: High elo players got it removed by warding too much, not low elo players by warding too little. Same thing with the Jungle having the smite bonus's removed, they thought that high elo junglers had it "solved", a problem not shared by low elo junglers who smote Gromp over and over.

Talon item 3070 ....

...this all stems from a complete lack of unique AD/Armor or AD/Resist items.

remember good old atmogs? bring back Atma's impaler. problem solved.

"If it ain't fun, let's replace it, and then fix the replacement" is more accurate imo. Although I can't say the replacement is always an improvement, it usually is in the long run.

"Fix" is a really generous term for it. The keystone masteries are still screwing up the game's balance in major ways. If I could trade the current patch for one of the patches before the keystone update I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I wouldn't give them up. Keystones make masteries interesting enough to give a shit about. Without them players probably wouldn't look at their pages even half as much as they do now, much less think about them in game.

what? She WAS broke and they DID fix her. Or at least it seems like it so far

I wish they would revert the jungle. I started playing at the start of season 6 and if I had one single change that I could completely revert it would be the jungle changes. It's made it so only 1/3 of the junglers are effective and now all they can do is gank because you soak up more xp from duo lanes than you get from clearing 4 camps. I used to main jungle untill this shit came out. On top of that you had the akali rework that was unnecessary and I even played vayne back when they buffed her q for god knows why. I had great success with vayne two shotting people and they decided she needed more damage. This season is the biggest shit fest I've ever seen.
