A Way to Unshackle Farming from Counterjungling

What if enemy jungle camps granted slightly less gold and experience?

Farming and counterjungling are two parts of the ‘holy trinity’ of jungle, the third being ganking. However, they are mechanically the same, since counterjungling is just farming enemy camps. They are also balanced by the same lever, which is the value of farm.

Riot has historically said that they must skew this value to favor ganking, or else farming would become dominate. When farm becomes valuable, both farming and counterjungling become better. Counterjungling pushes ganking out of the meta by punishing failed ganks, and farming your own jungle before it gets stolen pushes out counterjungling. Thus farming becomes the best strategy.

But if farming enemy camps did not grant as much gold as farming your own, then Riot could balance each strategy independently. Farming weak? Increase ally jungle value. Counter-jungling seeming bad? Decrease the difference between ally and enemy camps. While there is no obvious in-game cue that enemy camps should be less valuable, this change would be worth the small confusion it would cause.

Since the balance of the strategies in any one game depends more on the game state as time goes on, the difference need only exist during the early game. Turret plating is a convenient marker of its end. So, tl;dr until turret plating falls, enemy camps should be worth slightly less gold and experience.
