Champion identity

(This is a serious thread, please don’t troll me in the replies.)

I think that champion identities are really important in LoL, most of the champions I play have cool identities that match their kit. I don’t read lores much, but I try to reference lore a bit if I know the lore for a champion. It’s also important for a champion appearance and quotes to match their playstyle and kit as well.

Examples of champions that match their identity: Wukong- based on the Journey to the West myth, a monkey who is nimble, can create dopplegangers of himself (like his Decoy and his Nimbus Strike) and uses a magic staff. Also, his idle animation with the clouds is a pretty good representation of the myth too. He has a personality similar to Jaden Yuki in YuGiOh GX and always wants to improve himself while challenging others, a product of his martial arts training with Master Yi. They also share some similar quotes.

Akali- best ninja champion in League because of her identity matches ninja identity. Nimble, quick on their feet, can dash a lot (ninjas are known for their acrobatics, which I think Shadow Dance is a good example of), stealth and damage. Ninjas are also good single target assassins, and Akali is a good example of that.

Master Yi- martial arts sensei who seeks enlightenment. He trains hard and his E and R steroids can be seen as products of his training where he strengthens himself. He can also meditate, which goes well with his lore as he is ridding himself of anger in order to achieve enlightenment.

Xin Zhao- spear soldier. His quotes as well as his attacks match this identity very well. “Onwards!”

Talon- underground assassin based off a medieval assassin.

Katarina- strong, determined. Will fight you face to face, which is represented by the fact that she has to be in melee range for 3.5 of her abilities. Her resets are also a core to her identity. In her lore, she fights a whole Demacian army, so her abilities are mostly AOE and can hit many targets at once.

Champions that seem to be facing an identity crisis: Thresh- evil sadistic soul reaper who is a support and helps teammates

Aatrox- his kit seems bland compared to his lore

Shen- ninjas are usually highly mobile, nimble and deal good damage. Usually, they don’t stand in the middle of a teamfight taunting enemies while tanking. Shielding is also something ninjas don’t usually do.
