Ward jumping should be removed

Nobody should have access to this mechanic, wards should be used mainly for vision. Lee Sin making dumb decisions and then getting over a wall without getting punished is just unfair. Give Jax a rework cause he is in a bad spot anyway.

Crying Lee mains in 3...2...1...

Its a dying mechanic, slowly being taken out of the game, as seen with how they removed it from katarina, there was a long talk about this a long time ago with reguards to lee sin, and the result was that he didnt receive any of the w perks, ie shield and that other thing that comes with it when he would hop to wards which I think would be a somewhat fair compromise.

Keevalroy27 votes

It's a dying mechanic that isn't dying fast enough. They should have stripped ward hopping from the remaining two and a half (not sure if Elise is still able to E to enemy wards) champs when they reworked Kat and killed the mechanic in one fell swoop, but God forbid Lee gets an ouchy on his overloaded kit.

SH Azykan7 votes

Elise can but I mean...she has to have vision of that ward, and unless you have something like a control ward giving vision of it, that window is incredibly small

Keevalroy5 votes

Regardless, it still shouldn't be possible.

Fondling Gems16 votes

Except it isn't a ward hop, it is closer to how ekko can E > Jump to a ward as part of his attack. Enemy wards are enemy units and Elise can jump to enemy units which does make sense when you consider that it is an AA without the damage.

Keevalroy4 votes

I still stand by my point - it shouldn't be possible to jump or dash to wards.

Enlegacy15 votes

It shouldn't be possible to do so to allied wards. I see little problem with doing so to enemy wards, as that is you making well on the enemies decision, not purely added mobility based only upon your own.

C00LE5T3 votes

I think it makes sense to get rid of both. Lee and Jax can jump to their own wards because they can jump to all allied units. So getting rid of it would mean moving wards out of what the game defines as a "unit". So whichever side it's on, the ward would not be a "unit" anymore. But a separate entity that can only be AA'd to death.

SoryInAdvance4 votes

dont see a problem with essentially auto attacking an enemy ward. only problem with the ward hops is that you're jumping to your own untargetable object.

Wards cost money when Lee Sin was introduced to the game. Ward hoping was designed to be a big play with big risk. The introduction of free ward items was a huge buff to Lee Sin that's never been addressed.

Make him only able to ward hop to Control Wards. Make him spend 75g every time he wants to ward hop. It still allows the "LCS BIG PLAYZ" but stops people from spamming wards and jumping everywhere.

Prestige Eve6 votes

Your post by far explains the biggest issue with Lee Sin now. That bonus part of his kit was balanced around it costing him gold to gain an extra option in his kit. The cost restriction no longer exists and Riot needs to address it.

ShadowParker5 votes

This is actually a pretty solid point.

NvestmentPlanker7 votes

i actually like this. that's a fair point. although most Lee's back then built sightstone as one of their items before trackers included two wards.

Teridax6819 votes

In practice, ward jumping has always been a method of turning a unit-targeted dash into a free-targeted dash. If Lee or Jax somehow really need unrestricted mobility, then their dashes should just be made free-targeted on their own, and if they don't, they shouldn't, but in either case that shouldn't have to rely on popping down a vision item and exploiting the game's old unit targeting system, which is clunky and especially opaque to newer players.

The only issue with this is that Jax and Lee have the benefit of being able to not miss. You click, you land there.

Being free targeted is different from being able to ward hop, since you CAN run out of wards if you are actually providing vision.

They are just slightly more restricted than they otherwise would be, is what i am getting at.

Teridax682 votes

That's true, ward-hopping does carry slightly more of a cost, but even early on, that's not especially imposing when compared to the situations in which a ward-hop becomes critical to winning or surviving, e.g. a gank or an escape. Providing vision also isn't the main point of the ward-hop, which is part of why the mechanic isn't that great (you're using a purely non-combat item in the middle of combat for some completely unrelated purpose). If Lee or Jax are intended by the devs to have free-targeted mobility at a much higher cost, then it could still be possible to implement that with a separate cooldown, as with LeBlanc's global clone ult.

My personal opinion on this is that neither Lee nor Jax truly need free-targeted mobility: Jax needs a rework anyway, as he hasn't aged well and suffers from many classic skirmisher issues (he's one-note, and either steamrolls or fails to do anything useful depending on how fed he is); Lee depends on his ward-hopping for his Insec kick, which has become iconic on him, but already has access to such a wealth of tools, and has such a high skill floor, that he really shouldn't be able to perfectly dictate the pace of fights, on top of having more options than anyone else in the middle of combat, nor does he need yet another "high skill mechanic" when simply trying to memorize all of his abilities for the first time can be challenging. Really, the only reason he hasn't lost that ability, which Riot themselves had tried to enact a while back, is because his fanbase has grown so attached to every part of his kit that removing any component will always feel like pulling teeth.

That's literally not the reason Riot refuses to give Jax a meaningful buff...lol

question: what's the reason

Faceroll Tactics2 votes

He is so binary, he functions like riven (go in, stun, get out) but all of his abilities are binary point and click or one button presses. He is about as close to a stat check a champion can be. If he is strong, then he has very little counterplay options, whereas if riven or fiora is strong most of their damage is avoidable

Kat gone, only you left, Lee Sin and Jax.

So all the champions that have dashes and blinks put in their kits to get out of the dumb decisions they make is ok? Ekko being able to E dash or just ult out of trouble, Leblanc W, Ezreal E, Lissandra E, Ahri ult, Zed W, etc. But something that requires you to use a ward and skill is what bothers you. Mmmmmmk

your not wrong, but ahri has 3 dashes, lissandra give vision on where her hand is, same with zed, ekko can ult, leblanc can w again. name some champs that only have a in ticket.

He can Q over walls if in danger.

GiantEnemyShaco14 votes

To be fair, Q'ing over the wall is probably what put him in danger to begin with.

morris16 votes

Kled can still use his E, and unless the enemy is right on him, his ultimate (unless he is dismounted, in which case fighting is always recommended).

While extremely situational, Ivern can use his Q through walls onto jungle monsters like Elise.

Poppy has no escape except for the low W speed but her ult more than makes up for it.

Sagan Forever5 votes

If you use e to escape as Kled , then stop playing Kled. A true Kled has only one direction, into the enemy team.

Those champions are balanced around having a blink ability. Ward jumping is just a by product of an ancient mechanic currently used 2 champions anyway.

Lee is also balanced around it, if that is removed from his kit he will need compensation buffs. He loses a lot of his potential power if he can't wardhop to insec or make plays.

PB4UAME2 votes

Not true at all. :)

Lee was balanced around it when wards had a cost to place, and took up an item slot to do so. Ever since, he has not had to worry about either of the two costs that are supposed to accompany the ward hop to balance the mechanic and give it some actual cost beside a cooldown on his free dash ability.

It's very true, when lee is looked at for buffs or nerfs, his ability to wardhop is taken in as a factor of some of his power. If that is removed then he needs buffs elsewhere to stay in more or less the same spot.

WoonStruck9 votes

Lee's removes skill expression from his kit. He has 3 potential ways to disengage including W, and the majority of its use is making Q more reliable, which is where half of Lee's recent issues come from.

Jax's is fine design-wise, and realistically just needs some relatively light work to start functioning again, not a rework.

Why do people have it in their heads that a "champion underperforming->needs rework"?

Sir Rethor5 votes

jax may not really need anything more than adding some ad ratios to his abilities. But what he really needs is a visual rework since hes visually comparable to lulu and old heimer.

WoonStruck2 votes

Visually, definitely needs some work. You're right.

Ratios would be a bad area to buff him, tbh.

All he needs is 10-25% bonus armor/mr pen passive somewhere.

He already functions vs squishies like he should; the problem is that tanks invalidate him because he has no way to bypass them, itemization or otherwise.

This is why he's always too strong or too weak in any given meta. He either snowballs well and doesn't fall off, or has to work within the 20-30 minute window after TF or TF/gunblade and close out the game before anyone gets significant resists.

dark100dark1008 votes

My biggest problem with Lee ward jump is that it is a free flash. Normally he should use his Q, and if he misses (because you outplayed him), he should be useless. But no, he jumps near you and use q from zero distance. So much about skillshots and outplays. The escape is just an extra.

Valderis Vandala7 votes

It has nothing to do with fairness, its just a dumb ability.

If Riot actually added more champions that could ward jump it would be a perfectly fair mechanic, but it would still be a dumb nonsense ability to have.

It makes no sense for most abilities to be able to jump to wards. Look at Jax, his ward jump is an ability that is supposed to be offensive in nature, jumping on an enemy and hitting them, so why can he jump on a ward or even his allies? Look at Lee Sin, his ward jump is a ability to come to the aid of allies, so why would/can he jump to a ward?

I have no doubt that when these kinds of champions eventually get reworded, they'll get their silly ward jumping removed and replaced with properly functioning abilities that make sense. You can already see it happen when Braum got released, he didn't have a ward jump even though his ability is no different from Lee Sin's. They probably aren't removing existing ward jumps just yet because it would fuck too much with the kit and power balance of the champions.

At least, I hope they'll remove this nonsense eventually.

vOmvbrawfU5 votes

Either make it so none can do it or all can do it.

There is no reason Braum shouldn't be able to ward hope if Lee Sin can.

LatetotheRace5 votes

They said it would change Braum from a wall to a tank. Thus making him more powerful than he's supposed to be or some bs. (That and you'd see me surviving every fight leaving my adc when stuff gets fuzzy.)

SH Azykan2 votes

it makes him have one of the best engages in the game is what they actually said about it, and they want him to be a peeling tank rather than a hard engage one.

It's honestly a shame tbh, it'd be so much fun.

I feel like this is the best way i can phrase my thoughts: I think wards should only be able to be "engaged" with if that engagement would deal damage IE Ekko E blink or Elise repel. If it wouldnt deplete a health chunk, then it shouldnt work.

But at the same time ward hopping was featured in their practice tool montage soooooo i doubt its going away
