Good grief can you reduce the overall damage in the game by like 30%?

Seriously...this game has been so out of hand for so long.

Go back and watch pro matches in seasons 1-3. Look how long a solo lane highlight clip takes compared to now lol.

The above is a compilation of the best moments from Season 3 Worlds. In it you see, Faker, as Gragas, deleting an Ori, Inhib towers falling at 12 minutes, Varus just tearing people to shreds, and more glorious moments of the game being "out of hand".

AMYS GRAVE3 votes

And those events were the exceptions, even among the best of the best. Those kinds of moments used to mean something. Now no one bats an eye at those kinds of things.

Ahristocats2 votes

a burst mage deleting an other burst mage and i should be surprised?

season 3 is the season where power creep started in season 2 you had oneshots from mages like gragas, but overall teamfights lasted in average 30 seconds and could go up to 1 min unless you got caught in a wombo combo

and even then, take a look at the begining of season 3

Games would take too long for the current playerbase full of ADHD conditioned first person shooter crowds who have bled into and almost ruined this game. They call for surrender as soon as they lose first blood. I hate them.

Melledoneus2 votes

I hope they leave. Bronze is too crowded with them here.

juggernauts will rise again

Tomosima4 votes

Juggernauts are like the best thing in the entire game

TheHappyReaperz3 votes

They are also the least balanced.

Spoofghoul2 votes

no that would be ADC

they been overpowered and mandatory since season 1

Irelia Bot1 votes

ADC outside of the ones with mobility on a 3 second cooldown or able to make a mine field of traps under the enemy turret have realistic trade offs and could be balanced as a class.

They just don't always have their cons evening out their pros.

Big Lincoln3 votes

balanced as in horrendously underpowered besides Darius?

i agree

TheHappyReaperz1 votes

Morde will either run through your team, 1v5ing off the shield he gets for doing damage, or get kited into oblivion. Garen, if he gets a lead, is essentially unstoppable. He's far too tanky to deal with, and his passive makes it difficult to keep him down, in lane. However, should he get behind, he gets kited just as easily as Morde, with none of the damage in his kit to make up for it. Darius will harass you in lane, and if you aren't careful, he will kill you. From there he can snowball a lead very efficiently, tearing through teams. Even from behind, his innate synergy with BC still makes him a force to be reckoned with. Illaoi, can abuse most laners, forcing them away from farm, and snowballing her lead. From behind though, she lacks any meaningful attributes. Being a control Juggernuat is useless, when you are too weak to defend an area.

Big Lincoln1 votes

just like I said, then, UP except for Darius.

Illaoi is extremely overrated as a lane bully, you have to play like shit to get wrecked by a champ with some of the slowest abilities in the game, and hard countered by any ranged top laner. otherwise you would actually see her often in high elo instead of Pantheon and Renekton, who bully you from level 1 or 2 instead of level 4/5. she's a mid-game champ, not early game

Numbers would look so weird Hey you have 61.821 AD from this! He he ex de But yeah toning everything down seems a bit harsh

It's interesting to read all the "this won't work because x/y" replies. In this very short post it mentions rebalancing defensive items and adjusting champions.

It's an absolutely necessary across the board adjustment that will ensure the longevity of the game. At the moment it is a giant pile of band-aid fixes that Riot would be reluctant to tear off due to the period of time where the game would be out of whack. "Fixing" one thing at a time and making small changes is how we have gotten to this state in the first place.

We as the playerbase should be exhibiting patience more often to show that we could handle this sort of thing well.

Elikain2 votes

Riot won't definitely break the game in order to make a potential fix, months down the road. Who's going to play the game if it's so unfair in certain aspects? And keep in mind that League is also an e-sport so taking the game essentially offline for pros delays everything for these projected few months.

Rebalancing everything may be a solution but it isn't a viable solution for League.

Dubshoka1 votes

That's the problem yeah.

The pros already play on a different patch than live. At least for worlds. This would have to be the case in our hypothetical situation. As for the rest of us, who knows?

I've been thinking about this for awhile though. Riot would need to get their patching system to a point where they could deploy changes rapidly and also without a ton of extra work on their end. Then perhaps an extended PBE stint with the big initial changes. Kind of like a mini-beta.

Will it happen? Probably not.

Elikain2 votes

I think that the bigger question here is: Does it pays off? And i'm not talking about the money. Does it pay off to spend months trying to do this, which will massively slow down any kind of progress: new champs, class updates, reworks, RGM queues, balance changes, pre-seasons, new client features... Basically, so much resources would need to be diverted to the mass re-balance (under the hood) that Riot wouldn't have anything left to maintain the game in the most basic ways.

Is League so broken that it needs a fix like this? No, i don't believe it is. Compared to what we had years ago to now, there may be some higher damage numbers in play but it hasn't crossed that point of being uncharacteristic to the class that deals it.

League was a much simpler game years ago and the only options there were to do damage or don't do damage. In between was a lot of utility. Today, we have a lot of ways to contribute to a team, and it isn't just in these three areas. There's a healthy mix of everything.

Dubshoka1 votes

This is a good point and well stated. Teach other people :)

Tomosima1 votes

They don't even need to do it in one patch it could be a process across half a year of patches to reach that point

lol... I think it was kassadin i played against as Orianna, Destroyed him lane, probably up 1.5 lvls on him then i see a grey screen (1095 damage in 0.9 secs).... me in all chat "k...." but seriously though, damage is fine. I think getting full comboed without resistances or enemy ahead should equal death, 100%. You deserve to die if they hit all 4 abilities on you and they are a damage dealer and they are ahead. There are a few champions, who aren't ahead and manage to 1 shot you without much counterplay, that needs a bit of toning down.

DemainaNyx6 votes

Agreed. If the 20/2 assassin comes at an ADC, I expect the ADC to die assuming the assassin hits his abilities. But the 2/20 Yasuo should not be able to penta kill due to the Alistar getting one amazing 5 man engage.

MissingKayo4 votes

KDA has almost nothing to do with strength.

DemainaNyx3 votes

When the Yasuo has 3 items to the enemy at full build, Yasuo shouldn't instantly win one teamfight due to one good play made by his teammate.

MissingKayo1 votes

But it's not realistic for him to pentakill unless they have absolutely no tanks or tanky champions. If he has 3 items and the enemy still has no meaningful resistances, he should be able to kill the carries at least, unless anyone actually CCs him to stop him.

TheHappyReaperz2 votes

If you reduce damage and defenses equally, literally nothing changes. If you reduce damage and defense in-equally, you get an actual League of Oneshots, or League of Tanks. Neither of which are fun or balanced.

Tomosima1 votes

It does change... HP stays the same .. meaning takes more time to kill someone

TheHappyReaperz1 votes

HP is a defensive stat. If it stays the same, while damage decreases, Champs like Kog'maw, Vayne, Fiora, etc, who deal damage of health would be OP-OP, Champs that stacked health, while getting some form of bonus from it, Sion, Mundo, Vlad, etc would be also OP. Wouldn't that be fun? Also, you would have to nerf the hell out of minions, as reduced damage means, you don't kill minions, which means no splitpushing, pushing, or antiseige. Minions would basically control the outcome of the game, Baron would be the most highly contested objective ever, since it gives a buff to minions. Which, isn't like it would matter, it would take forever to do Baron anyway.

I don't think you understand. If you reduce everything equally, nothing changes. If you just make it take longer to kill people, the game just stagnates. Think about it. Why risk trying to kill someone, when it takes forever, when you can just sit in your lane and farm. A League of Tanks isn't fun, and you don't want that.

The Sword Saint2 votes

Because as we all know, true skill is not in making life or death split second decisions but in having very few consequences for mistakes.

deadlychuck2 votes

True skill is not making life or death split second decisions. That's impulse.

Skill is from consistently making correct decisions and correctly adjusting dynamically with the situation.

It's pretty short sighted to effecitvely make the argument that, a CoD pro player is in some way less skillful than a chess master. Who's individual decisions in their game are not split second and rarely have massive consequences for each individual decision. [slayer-jinx-unamused]

The Sword Saint1 votes

Noone argued that, but this is a weak analogy anyway. A malphite and a mundo slapping each other with their dicks for 50 minutes toplane is not a chess match. No move they make is at all significant unless ganks happen and even then they'll both be too tanky to easily die no matter what the situation is.

You don't need chess style strategy skill to have those kinds of fights. You have all the time in the world to realize that you're losing the battle of attrition, but even so you're so tanky you can take the losing trades for a long time and then just push the wave and recall without real risk.

In teamfights you don't have to have anywhere near the precise positioning or timing to make your moves as someone who can actually die from a slight error - and if fact if everyone on both teams is tankier then everyone gets to be less precise beacuse who cares, even if the adc gets picked he'll probably escape and live.

Elikain2 votes

No to all of this. This is a lot of math and you essentially want everything to be nerfed.

zero3562 votes

Well yeah Tha'ts kind of the point

Elikain1 votes

No, that wasn't the point. OP just wanted damage to be cut by a third. But that pulls on ALL OTHER systems as well, like defense stats, raw AP, AD, AS, crit, HP, HP regen, mana regen... Then it also pulls every champion's base stats and skill base damage + ratios. Then you're hitting all other systems like runes, masteries, objectives like baron, dragons, herald, turrets, jungle, minion scaling and their stats...

Yea, you're basically changing the entire game.

zero3561 votes

Well yeah I'm pretty sure that was his point

Elikain1 votes

Again, not a good point. "Someone that's supposed to hurt is actually hurting me" isn't a good argument to make. Was there anything specific about OPs post that we can analyze or are we just going to guess what's potentially the problem?

How much does the OP know the damage needs to be reduced or just how much each class should be dealing at each point in time?

deadlychuck1 votes

lol you act as if the stat system is still functional as it currently stands. The stat system has been so fucked as soon as they started making class adjustments...

Honestly, a good amount of the game would simply slow down if you were to substantially reduce damage. People seem so opposed to this concept of actually making the player think about what they're doing instead of using muscle memory and comboing/right-clicking enemies before disengaging to do it again when your CDs are up.

five oh tree 2 votes

Wow, I totally forgot about how not being able to punish someone for their mistakes creates an environment of skill. League of Tanks was super based around skill, right? Being out of position and living because, "lol dying would feel bad" is skill-based and competitive, yeah?

Getting into the position to blow someone up and pulling it off successfully while they know you're trying to IS a display of skill. Surviving that IS a display of skill (currently). No one should get free passes on their mistakes; They should just learn from them and become better players.

C I R C L E J E R K

deadlychuck1 votes

Because making a single mistake and the losing the lane/game because of that mistake is also such a high indication of skill of the other player who one because they snowballed uncontrollably.

Riven could oneshot with R+E+thirdQ/flash+auto+Tiamat+W in season 1 or whenever it was that Riven was able to flash mid third Q. The game's always been like this, tbh.

PhDs Nuts1 votes

The problem is that they're releasing more and more champions that reach their power spike at 1-2 items, and providing item synergy that does the same thing. Coupled with the ridiculous amount of extra damage or survivability provided by keystones, it's insane.
