No one should press r and just get a kill with no work put in. (sort of),

No one should be losing a fight, press r and win. No one.

The champions listed do need to put in work to get a kill. They can't 100-0 a non-AFK target with their ult alone.

This is logically flawed. Why shouldn't an ability be able to make a difference? That's the whole point of having abilities. And why only the ult, which is supposed to be a particularly impactful ability? Champions are balanced around using their kits.

I think the context of these ults is important. They all serve a purpose to the kit that surround them, and while they do massive damage, a misplaced, baited, or even unlucky ult can completely change the turn of a fight. Keeping track of these ults is a part of the game, and making sure not to overcommit during a fight where these are available is a skill you have to learn.

Well thats the funniest part if couple of champions and of them is Veigar, you can miss stun you can miss W, land Q and R, KABOOM nuked, especially if u are ahead in farm and if u got passive stacks.
