Here's 2 supports you should never disrespect.
And there all off meta.
Heal's, armor shred, a better Ult then tarics. She's got everything you need to take up the slack. You can build her as a heal bot, assistant damage, or just as a standard mage sup. She also has a unique trait that most people never consider. She has wave clear. I know most people get there torch and pitchfork out the moment someone even mentions a support taking CS but consider the value of having that as a back up plan. You need someone to go clear a pushing wave without removing a primary damage dealer? Kayle can do it and damn fast. Lost a few men during a team fight but need to push two lanes? Kayle can split push on her own and be relatively safe. She also can go for those more risky deep wards on her own, if she runs into a 1v1 situation she can at least give them a run for there money while backing off. Now she's not in the meta right now primarily because she lacks hard CC. She has a slow and her heal and ult make for great peel but that's more of a damage sponge, witch still works great.
If you want peel and hard CC you just found the queen. Syndra is by far the best peel counter engage sup in the game. Any champion with a dive mechanic is shut down by Syndra. Her E alone is enough to split up most fights, combine it with her new Q and you can get 2-4 man stuns with ease. Need slows? Her W can slow an entire team with one button press. Her Ult is one of those little gems that will turn the table on any fight. The raw damage out put on any given target is enough to blow up ADC's and cleave tanks down enough for your team to mop up. Her Q poke is also extremely good now that it scales off 70% AP. A little goes a long way. The Q mostly sets up a lose lost for the enemy ADC. Get a CS and eat a Q or not get the CS. This adds up fast and even missed Q's put you in a position to stun them leading to an engagement or at the very least missed CS. Her Ult E combo will almost always land a 5 man stun, that can be followed up with a 5 man slow. She is somewhat squishy but benefits greatly from the new update giving her access to numerous defensive options, while staying in a supports budget and item restrictions. While not the greatest split pusher she dose offer startling amounts of wave clear for rushing lanes. She also excels at taking objectives, sometimes literally. Partnering up with your JG you can literally steal and walk off with enemy jungle camps and hand them to your team on a plate. Dragon and Baron pit are perfect places for easy stuns and maneuvering targets with your E. Her only down side is that she lacks heals or shields witch most ADC's have grown winningly accustomed to.
These are two supports I have been playing for a long time now. Both do require some skill (what support doesn't) and are very rewarding. Yes they are very off meta right now and are seen only as Mid Lane Mages. But honestly they are perfectly capable in the support position. Will you see them in the Higher ELO's? probably not, there are easier champions to use that require less effort to play in the support position. But what these two bring to the table is worth more in my opinion then most of the other supports out there. That said neither of these pick are perfect, they have counters. But they them self's counter a lot as well. I'll list some good match ups for them.
That all said bring on the down votes for speaking out against the meta. I play what I'm good with and what is fun, not what some platinum player on the other side of the continent thinks is good this patch.
Good match ups:
