How to fight Irelia in Lane?

Got absolutely destroyed last night in lane verse last night. I was top with heal as I changed lanes with our . It was a normal game so I did not really care was just trying to farm chests and my team got stomped and surrendered right away. But still I got absolutely destroyed by an a tier lower rank than me.

I will admit top lane is my worst lane and is the only lane I have not really played this season. I started which was probably stupid, but thought the reduced 1v1 damage would help. However, it did not stop me from getting absolutely crushed and feeding my ass off. I was confused because after my first death the player went back and bought and was able to kill me 2 more times without backing with pretty much just that item. Don't get how she can do that much damage off just that. Also, I don't understand how I was fully stunned when we both had full health and I was . I thought she only stunned you if you had more health than her?

silver 5 motha fucka told me to get gud after the game and honestly I could not argue with them. Please help me not be absolutely terrified of in lane anymore. Or are you just always supposed to be afraid of her?

You don't play a ranged top against an Irelia - that's asking for trouble. Play a melee champion and you'll go even, play an early game bully like Darius Renekton Pantheon and you'll destroy her.

She probably killed you off her XP and level advantage than off her Sheen, at this point. And if you have exactly the same health percentage (in this case, 100%), the game favors her (which seems logical to me, she's the one initiating and taking a risk).

But beyond these little details, yeah, I don't really understand how to behave against Irelia either, it's one of the match-up I dislike the most. And mind you, I play Juggernauts and big fat Tanks, not the kind of ranged champs she's exactly supposed to counter.

Couple of points to improve: Graves does not rush attack speed, or at least he did not when he was played top. Get some early ad with BC or Deaths Dance. When playing ranged champions against Irelia never go next to a low minion. It is a free q reset for her meaning longer trade which is typically bad for you. Most melee champs should also try to not get close to low minions, but for some reason this happens all the way to challenger too. If possible build tanky against Irelia. She has a decently sized burst which she gets to deliver before you due to her stun. After that she has decent continual damage for as long as her w last. When it is down you can punish her due to being weak.

As a side note: Irelia has a weird power curve. She is below average at level 3 but much above average at level 4 due to how her w scales. So watch out for her level 4 all in and avoid it if possible, giving up cs for it might be fine too. Her level 6 powerspike is only good if she gets to use her ult on you and minions, since she heals a lot from it.
