PSA: Supports please buy a sightstone (looking at you bronze and silver supports)

Smalltomahawker··5 votes·909 views

Common sense no? My main only gold 5, but as a support main I am amazed by how many silver 4 - bronze supports do not buy a sight stone. I honestly thought of all things in this game buying sight stone as support was known by almost anyone level 30. Sadly I am mistaken.

Warding wins game. As support one of your jobs is to ward and clear wards. You do need your teams help warding but you are your teams main source of vision. By not buying sight stone and rushing another support item or damage all you are doing is hurting your team. It leads to more enemy ganks on your bottom lane, more enemy dragons, more enemy barons, more picks for your enemy, etc. It really puts your team at a huge disadvantage.

majority of the supports now a day are just salty mid laners who don't want to wait for long queue time.

haha I did not really think about that but I am sure you are right. Would explain a lot.

If you have experienced LB support building dark seal first item stealing cs and feeding, you will understand my situation.

I've played with Katarina and Talon support in the past when I was using Varus ADC.

It honestly worked rather well in those isolated cases. They were willing to build build a Gold Generation item, Sightstone and help me harass down my opponents.

We ended up winning both of those games by a land-slide due to their roams.

Dont mention extreme cases when we are talking about a general topic, because that gives people false informations. For example exposing to gamma rays might turn you into hulk, but more than likely you will just be burned into ashe.

Eh. The new Vision Changes have made it so that each player can only put down 3 wards anyway, and using trinket fills up 2 of those wards. Sight Stone is only really for rotating vision (And having that 1 extra ward down on the map). I won't deny that vision is super important, but if everyone is warding on your team with trinket, I'd think that you'd be able to replace sight sightstone with the other gold income item, and get more support oriented items to compensate.

With the cooldowns on yellow trinket you will be lucky to always have them available. An enemy can easily scan and clear a trinket and you are going to be trouble. Based on your average support deaths of 7-8/game I would say you really should listen to this advice and invest some money on vision :).

Damn dude, I agree with you and all but you didn't have to attack this guy. 90% of the time Sightstone is needed, but that 10% is the miracle game where everyone wards and buys a pink. He still has a point.

Not really, if you include clearing from pink & item 3341 you will have total vision denial. Some people actualy buy item 2043 you known.

PSA Silver-Plat: Actually USE your sightstone.

No point having it and leaving the map still black.

thank god for item 3711. Pretty sure a good chunk of my wins on this account as jungle is due to me warding with this item. But yea good point. Buy sight stone and use it.

Tracker's Knife is the best jungle item in my opinion.

Unless I want to use a specific item for my champion to amplify their strengths or account for their weaknesses (i.e. Stalker's Blade on Volibear and Udyr to reach or stick to targets, Skirmisher's Sabre on Kindred and Evelynn for assassinations/dueling), I pretty much always grab it.

The strength of vision cannot be understated. The enemy jungler is going to have very little success ganking if I have wards throughout their jungle or covering gank paths and I can make better decisions with the extra information.

Almost all true, exept: it's the jungler who has to control dragons/baron/rift herald, the support (especially early game) should just ward his lane (later one help with vision control, but that is later on, when late game kicks in), unless bot is winning and he can afford to use one ward for dragon. Also sightstone can be neglected if your team has 2-3 yellow, 1-2 blue and 1 red trinket, you would have either 7 or 6 wards this way, which are more than enough to ward every piece of the map (you only need 2 for baron and dragon and 4 are enough to ward almost all of the jungle), especially with junglers who buy green upgrade (you would have eithr 8 or 9 this way). You are correct by saying that sightstone is usefull and should be bought, but forcing people to buy it it's just wrong, if you as a whatever role feel there is a lack of vision, it's your job to buy and place a pink or to use your trinket to help.

the thing is at the elo I described there are no wards. The map is pretty much always black. Yea there are exceptions, but if people are making exceptions then they should have some decent game knowledge. Its much easier to just provide players a general guideline of "yo supports spend 800g get sight stone since vision = win" instead of "well you really should get sight stone, unless a,b,c,d,e, etc. situations apply. Because people then just do w/e they want lock in their random ass "support", grab kills, buy no wards, pretend to support and lose the game more often for their team than they win.

Vision does not always = Win. Too many times there's vision and still players don't pay attention. Vision is great, but without map awareness it means nothing. Just what I've noticed from my time supporting.

Smalltomahawker1 votes

More importantly I have never thought to myself while playing support "damn if only I hadn't bought that sight stone"........

Valexfor1 votes

Well I'm also a supp main and I know how strong ss can be, you are also right saying that it's easier to say "buy ss" than "do x, y, z but if I happens then do a, b, c" and I'm with you on that. I was just giving my opinion there. Like I said you are right about most of what you say ^^.

Morning woodMaokai support no need sightstone.

But in all seriousness i understand your annoyance.

Smalltomahawker2 votes

I have not seen Maokai as support in forever! I have been playing him jungle a fair amount and having a lot of fun with it.

Friendly Ram1 votes

Yeah it's quite fun especially when my friend goes ez adc. Hope you have some better games.

Errastas1 votes

Sometimes I need something else before SS.

Smalltomahawker1 votes

I get that. Not saying you have to buy Sight Stone first item. I don't always either.

Could we hold off on the Support PSAs till more people play them. Rather not hear complaints about a role that no one wants to play yet it seems like everyone want to complain about.
