STOP making champs have invulnerability or restore all damage taken in the past few seconds in some form.
The repetitive factor of these 2 things is worse then the "lack of identity" of the champs who were put out every 2 weeks during season 2.

Also, if you were to get more creative, things would just be too overdone like with Illaoi, and would you seriously want more Illaoi's?
If you get too boring, things would be like Warwick and league is trying to move away from that and make newer champions exciting to see and be played.

The issue is these 2 things are showing up in some forms in nearly every champ as of late. Kindrid has the can't drop below 10% ult, Ekko ult reverts all damage taken, Tahm And his freaking shield is way over the top.

Replace invulnerability/restore all damage taken with 3 hit passives and you got me.
At this point making Taric have a 3 hit half second stun as an ult would be refreshing.
